We as a collective group of intelligent species have conquered the Galaxy. There is nothing we can not overcome through our logic, reason, and intellect. From terraforming entire planets, to understanding and mastering the force. We've reduced almost all of it down to a science. But what happens when a perfectly normal and logical mind faces something so bone chillingly frightening and absurd that we can not explain it? Something that flips our entire understanding and rationale on its head? Well that is cosmic horror at its finest. From films like Alien, The Mist, and The Thing; all of these derive from the work of H.P Lovecraft. The idea that the universe is completely indifferent to our intellect and our reason, that despite our mastery of life itself there are beings far more ancient and evil that lurk within the great unknown that only see us as their next meal; and that is what Into The Silent Dark Below looks to achieve. That gripping and maddening cosmic horror that drives the brightest of minds insane. In this thread we are not looking to have a happy ending where we walk away into the sunset and the credits roll at our backs. In this thread we are to look insanity and madness in the face and survive, not to overcome or best it, but survive. So without any further pause, I give you the OOC/IC Introduction to Into The Silent Dark Below, Syndicate's very own Lovecraftian Horror story.

Risks: Expect combat to be heavy in this mission. We have located a mining colony on the edge of the Galaxy in Wild Space that has peeked our interest. From what our probe droids tell us is that this facility seems to be very well fortified and that they seem to be doing very well for themselves. So our job is your basic smash and grab operation. We jump in, take out their defenses, kill anyone who stands against us, and take what's theirs and make it ours. Couldn't get anymore simple. As per usual you will be required to fill out the necessary paperwork before joining if you are new. These forms consist of Next of Kin Information, Remains/Corpse Directives, Basic Medical Questionnaire, and a Life Insurance Form. Now remember what you do and see on this mission is strictly confidential, if you rat, narc, squeal, or inform anyone of anything we will kill you. Thank you for understanding.

Job Details: We'll be reaching out to the very edge of our little Galaxy. A place that's so uncharted that we had no idea it existed until one of our probes picked it up. We don't even think it has a name yet, so congrats you guys get to name a planet. But back to the more serious matter at hand, this is your standard smash and grab and there shouldn't be that much more to it. The facility we've located seems to be well funded and they seem to be moving strange ore out of it. So we'll be taking that along with the large amount of credits that we have spotted moving in and out of the area. There's no need to restrict information today, there's just plenty of credits and what looks to be unidentified ore to steal and plunder.

Payment: We will be offering our standard rate of 30,000 credits for this job. By now you know our rules, no unnecessary killing, act like a professional, and if you have to kill any unarmed occupants then run the scenario past command before pulling the trigger or giving the old proverbial stab. Fail to do this and you will face heavy penalties to your payment.

Note: this thread is sort of a mix between OOC and IC. Consider it an IC invitation for the job but you guys can feel free to post OOCly here to sign up.

Vigil

Orwell, The Librarian
Credits go a long way to funding a nice hidden library and paying mooks to run the brokerage for me.

Plus I would love to have Vigil be forced to confront something his logical mind can't understand, express his emotion a little bit more.
