Intent:
To create a droid in co-operation between Silk and Kaili Talith.
Development Thread:
Coruscant: Please Take My Money
Manufacturer:
Silk Holdings
Kaili Talith
Model:
Silkworm-class
Affiliation:
Silk Holdings
Kaili Talith
Modularity:
Yes, it can be outfitted with various kinds of tools to fit whatever construction job it has been assigned to.
Production:
Mass-Produced.
Material:
Classification:

First Degree
Weight:
950kg
Height:
2m^3
Movement:
Repulsorlifts
Armaments:
  • Nailgun
  • Screwdriver
  • Measuring Sticks
Misc. Equipment:
  • Miniature Tractor Beam
Strengths:
  • Everyone loves the Ray - The tractor beam isn’t exactly a new invention, but even Kaili had to admit she was proud about managing to install a small (if not miniature) version of such a massive thing inside a unit so comparably small.
  • Friends - They’ll be there for you. The droids form a hivemind in which they all delegate tasks to each other and make sure that no work is left unprocessed.
  • Firefly - They work fast and with precision. In fact they work so fast that it seems they leave as soon as they came.
Weaknesses:
  • The King of ‘Sheens - But just like any other spin-off, this brand of tractor beam lacks a lot of what made the original great. The tractor beam installed can hold up heavy plating for installation, and possibly an unmanned lightweight speeder, but much else.
  • Eight Simple Rules - Much to Kaili’s dismay she has found that her first creation without any semblance of proper intelligence would also be the first droid that she ever made for a mass-produced market. The Silkworm only has one mode and line of thought: work. This means that it will not give a damn whether or not you are in it’s way. It will find a way to get rid of you, and more often than not that means the buzzsaw and sanding machine comes out to play.
  • No Will or Grace - This unit is very slow moving by speeder standard. In short you could compare the sensation of getting stuck behind a Silkworm to the real-life woe of driving behind a tractor on a crowded country road. You might as well just walk to wherever you need to go.
  • Bleep-Bloop - This unit does not speak. Beep-boop.
Description:
What do you get when you take a tractor beam and throw it into an oversized speeder truck?

You get the Silkworm, that’s what. Designed by Kaili Talith, built and mass-produced by Silk Holdings. It was the first droid that Kaili ever created which would become as widespread as it did, and all of it because she took the initiative to follow up on a request sent out by her good friend [member="Mara D'Lessio Merrill"] following the Galactic Alliance’s victory over Coruscant. See, at the time of creation there was a great need for rebuilding, and while Kaili was not someone who did that kind of work herself, she was an expert at creating things who did do that kind of work for themselves. Once she was greenlit by her friend to proceed with development, Kaili kickstarted ‘Project Adonis’ which later became known as the ‘Silkworm-Class Construction Droid.’

The blueprints were sent in for processing and not long after that they was taken to the production lines for assembly by the hundreds of dozens.

The agreement settled between Kaili and Silk left the original blueprints in the hands of the creator and split the income generated by the droids heavily in favor of Silk who also retained the rights to produce said droids for an unspecified amount of time to come.
