Back during the days of the Cold War between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire founded by Emperor Vitiate, the Republic was desperate to gain any edge they could over the Sith war machine. To that end, the Republic's War Trust went to Taris to begin a program known as Project Siantide. The project involved mining the remains of the lifeforms killed by Darth Malak's bombardment of the city-world that had been exposed to radiation from leaking reactors. The resulting substance was an extremely powerful energy source that the War Trust modified to be used in Republic technology to supposedly increase the power output tenfold.
To Taeli, it sounded like exaggeration to have something have its power get increased by tenfold, but the project idea itself intrigued her after she discovered files in the data centers of Obroa-Skai. Choosing an initial site for mining the needed organic material, Togoria was chosen given the genocide and destruction unleashed upon it by Darth Vornskr years ago. What they found was truly remarkable once they began working with the material and seeing what was needed to get it into a viable power source.
Putting the mined material through a refinement process gives it the capacity to hold and unleashed huge amounts of power, although not as much as it was boasted to be. The refinement process does make the material unstable and if disturbed by something like a blaster bolt ... the results can be quite explosive. Still, it was deemed viable enough under the banner Project Galvani to create a massive project for the substance dubbed Sianium, in honor of the original project. In that project, it was also determined that other organic matter such as plants could be used to create Sianium as well, although not as much as a living being could create when the process is complete.
