DESCRIPTION
Old Description:

The Serenity is the literal flagship of the Confederacy of Independent Systems' Naval Forces, and was created in the wake of the "Dark Harvest" outbreak. In response to the aggressive actions displayed by the various factions at Polis Massa, coupled with the growing reality that a militant build up was necessary for the continued perseverance of the Confederacy, the Serenity was created and armed with the absolute best that the engineers of Druckenwell Shipyards could offer. As a whole, the design team saw fit to make this vessel a bridge between past and present; and as such incorporated the famed design of the Lucrehulk-class Battlecruiser's Ring Carrier into the Serenity. This iconic addition fulfils the role of acting as a hanger for the vessel's complement, in addition to standing as a durable defense for the Bridge that is housed within interior portion of the Ring.

As is standard with Confederate vessels, the hull of the Serenity is composed of several, strong layers of Durasteel, coupled with Turadium. Quadranium was also added to this standard combination of metals, for the sake of additional longevity in the event of a shield failure. Despite possessing a complement, the primary purpose of the Serenity is that of a Battlecruiser. Its duty is to assault the enemy with everything the Confederacy can throw at it. As such, the vessel was equipped with an innovative piece of technology which utilized the Components secured by the Dark Harvest outbreak, which were combined with the Components given by the Sith Empire shortly thereafter. This weapon diverts all power from its others armaments in order to launch a single, ionic pulse. Immediately following, the weapon systems of the vessel require a lengthy cooldown before being able to fire again.

The CSN Serenity has been undergoing a major overhaul for months and has been rechristened the CSN Jupitus. The original incarnation suffered from its hasty construction. The original serenity included many exceptional systems, but included a modified lucrehulk constructed around the ship’s Ion Pulse Cannon.

The original had many weaknesses. The power was supplied by a single exceptionally large reactor. This could handle the output required, but wasn’t flexible enough to deal with peaks and troughs in energy requirements across the ship. The original serenity also had a distinct lack of point defences for such a large vessel, leaving it open to attack by enemy bombers. It was decided the remould the cannon with the new hull designs, and refit the ship to act as a super-command ship. Able to carry vessels into combat, and also act as the command station for large scale military operations, rather than to simply act as long range fire support.

The new Collateral-hulk hull design is intended to form a template for future Battlecruiser designs, and mirrors the ancient Lucrehulk that has served the Confederacy so well. The outer ring houses a significant number of batteries, whilst also containing the ship’s fighter complement.

The central command station has a more vertical design, mimicking the aesthetic of more recent CIS vessels, such as the Scythe, Sickle, and Contention classes. This houses the command station, most of the vessels crew complement, and the reactors.

The Ion Pulse Cannon bisects the space in the centre of the circular arms. As in the original lucrehulk, fighters are launched from the tips of the two arms, which means that fighters cannon be launched as the Ion Pulse Cannon is firing.

The first addition to the ship’s armament is a number of long range mass driver batteries, mounted with a pro facing firing arc. These are intended to follow up to the Ion Pulse Cannon, so that the disabled enemy vessel is subject to a devastating physical bombardment. To cope with these the power grid design has been completely revamped. The two ionisation reactors provide a relatively flat output and provide the majority of the ship’s output. The annihilator reactor is smaller, but much more agile in output. Hypermatter can be rapidly burned to hit a peak, or ramped down to avoid wasting fuel. It is often shut down for long periods at a time, if the Jupitus is caught by an enemy fleet when it is well away from a combat zone, it will likely be completely switched off.

The hypermatter reactor will be in “full burn” mode for a period before the Ion Pulse Canon fires. The weapon will slowly charge, and additional capacitors will gather power to follow up with mass drivers. When both have been fired, no turbolasers are able to fire for a full minute, leaving the ship exposed to capital ship attack. If the vessel is caught well away from any combat zone, it is likely that the hypermatter reactor will have been ramped down. It will take this reactor a full twenty minutes to start up and as such the Ion Pulse Cannon will be unavailable. [OOC: The Ion Pulse Cannon can fire once per engagement, unless it is particularly protracted (over several days) It is liable to disable any vessel <2km unless it has specific anti-ion systems and this will be discussed OOC before use to ensure all parties are content]

The rest of the ship’s armaments are intended to leave with no glaring weaknesses, but no particular strength. Heavy batteries give the vessel teeth against enemy ships, whilst the long range mass drivers can continue harassing the enemy at range long whilst the Ion Pulse recharges. Heavy fastmount turbolasers are intended to deal with mid-sized vessels that may be too agile for the heavy batteries.

Heavy Concussion missile tubes cover all firing arcs except for the rear, allowing with Jupitus to do significant harm to any vessels caught in a volley. Cluster concussion missile tubes are arranged around the outer ring, and can do significant damage to both squadrons of fighters and mid-sized capital ships.

Finally a range of point defences are included to deal with light to heavy fighters and enemy missiles.

OOC: The Serenity is being brought in line with the new templates. It's changed in character slightly and seen a debuff in raw firepower from the original. However, the notion is that this will be a player captained vessel and will see upgrades over time.

Don't they both look a bit structurally unsound to you? I mean...this is gonna take A LOT of heat every time its out there. I don't fancy large chunks falling off because the designer went for aesthetically pleasing over will-not-break.
