Kuhbee had been up since dawn. The sanctuary's gentle chimes had barely finished echoing through the stone halls when the young Wookiee Padawan was already tearing through his room, quite literally in some cases, with the enthusiasm of a starfighter at full throttle.

For months, his quarters at the Jedi Sanctuary on Naboo had been quiet, much too quiet for someone as full of life and curiosity as him. The only sounds were the occasional hum of his training holoprojector, the faint buzz of his meditation orb, and his own deep, rumbling snores. But that was all about to change.

Today, the Masters had told him, he would finally be getting a roommate.

Kuhbee could barely contain his excitement. His shaggy fur was in disarray from all his frantic tidying. He'd swept the floor three times (mostly just moving the dust from one corner to another but he was trying to get his fur up), stacked his training manuals in neat, slightly crooked piles, and even arranged his few belongings in what he hoped was a welcoming display. He had placed a small carved wooden figure—a tiny wroshyr bird he'd whittled himself from a branch of Kashyyyk's sacred trees, on the new bunk, as a kind of peace offering or maybe just a sign of goodwill.

Every few minutes, he would stop, stand in the center of the room, and look around with a proud, expectant expression, letting out a low trill of satisfaction. Then, just as quickly, he'd start moving again, adjusting something else like his blanket, his datapad, the window shade, the mat where he meditated.

Anyone passing in the corridor could hear him humming that sounded like a deep, rhythmic sound that carried a note of excitement through the tranquil halls.

Finally, as the afternoon sun began to pour golden light through the window, Kuhbee paused. His heart (and stomach) gave a little flutter. He could sense it, as if someone approaching. Footsteps in the corridor. A new energy.

His new roommate was almost here.

Kuhbee straightened, smoothed his fur as best he could, and let out a deep, nervous roar that might've meant "Welcome!" or "Oh stars, I hope they like me!"—perhaps both. His translator droid was curled up in the corner, not activated currently, though that would need to change soon he imagined.

This was it. The start of a new chapter in his Jedi journey.

Nien tugged his small pack tighter on his shoulder as he hurried down the corridor, his short legs moving in quick, eager strides. Afternoon light from Naboo's skies spilled through arched windows, painting warm gold on the sanctuary walls. The Temple smelled of moss, incense, and polished wood, a comforting scent he had already come to love.

He paused outside the door with his name on it. His large green ears twitched at the sounds of bustling movement inside. A soft smile spread across his small, expressive face. So this was Kuhbee.

He reached up, his fingers splaying over the panel, and pressed firmly to open the door.

The room buzzed with life: fur, half-folded blankets, and the earthy scent of wood shavings from a recent carving filled the air. Kuhbee stood in the middle, tall and shaggy, a storm of excitement in a Wookiee's body. Nien's eyes went wide with delight.

"Ohhh!" Nien exclaimed, voice high and bright. "So busy! You must be Kuhbee!?"

He set his pack gently by the door and padded forward, craning his head back to meet Kuhbee's gaze. "Nien I am. Padawan, same as you! The Master told me you are strong, very strong, but kind also. I think we will be good together, yes?"

His bright eyes caught the small wooden bird on the new bunk, and his ears perked up. "You made this? Beautiful it is!" He clasped his hands together in genuine admiration. "Reminds me of the trees on my world, sing when the wind passes through them, they do."

He looked around, soaking in every detail as though each were a treasure, then turned to Kuhbee, grinning wide enough to nearly reach his ears.

"So excited! I feel adventures coming. The Force brought us together. Friends, maybe, even great ones."
