Intent: To create a version of the Command Throne/Nerve Helm system that allows a remote operator to pilot drone starfighters rather than relying on droid brains.
Development Thread: None
Manufacturer: Ignus Black
Model: Remote Operations Piloting Pods (ROPPs)
Affiliation: Ignus Black approved projects.
Modularity: No
Production: Limited

Strengths:
  • Allows a pilote to remotely operate a connected starfighter.
  • Reduces cost of retraining pilots as pilots aren't lost if a starfighter is.
Weaknesses:
  • Cannot be retrofit into starships/starfighters.
  • Prolonged exposure creates an addiction to the program, just like the technology it is based on.
  • Requires ample space for the pods to be installed, making it akin to storing two squadrons of fighters for each squadron.
  • One pod per starfighter, in relation to what is mentioned above.

Description: Reverse-engineering the technology used to create the Command Throne system, technicians at Ignus Black were able to discern other potential applications for the tech, though they were unable to recreate the exact technology, forcing them to come up with a lesser, more derivative version. Obtaining a Throne had proven tricky, and disassembling it in order to learn the secrets of the chair had ultimately rendered the original useless.

With this newly gained knowledge, they were able to think of an excellent application of the system: remote control of starfighters. While the Command Throne works on electronics and interaction with the brain, the ROPP works on a similar system of intent, with a combination of programmable crystals. In this way, the system borrows from CCIR technology. CCIR technology relied on a system of mounted crystals within drone fighters that were linked back to a central computer hub. The computer hub processed the situation at an incredible rate, but it had to be of large size and was completely without living input, meaning it was subject to potential virus or attack.

By combining the CCIR technology with the intent of the Command Throne/Nerve Helm, the problem is subsequently eliminated. Through the creation of command pods which are equipped with one crystal, while a second component is fitted within the starfighter that houses the other crystal. The two crystals subsequently communicate with the ship in the same manner that a droid would. Thusly, remote input from the pod commands the ship. However, instead of the remote input coming from a computer, it comes from a living mind. The helm applied the same technological principles of the VT system, reading neural output to direct commands.

Testing has shown that the results are as desired. It has also shown that the ROPP has the same problem of addiction as the previous systems did. Additionally, because of the size constraints, it cannot be fitted into already existing capital-ships or starfighters, which has necessitated that a new starfighter be designed in order to make the system viable. It is still in the works. However, the ROPP will be available in new designs for a specific Ignus Black purpose only, and will not be available for public sale.

Well this was hard, I mean that in a good way! I really like this and you put a lot of work into it, very good job.

The only thing I would like you to add is how much one device can control. Ie, one device controls one ship, five ships, five hundred?
