Description:

As the war raged on, the gaps in the fleet needed to be filled more and more. As one of the ships designed to plug the holes, the Redoubt-class cruiser fills the role admirably.

The Redoubt is the first of a new kind of warship for the Republic. Designed as a brawler, the ship can duke it out at most ranges with ease. Featuring the heavy armor and assault-grade shielding of it's kind, the cruiser also features a heft array of weaponry. The most notable of these weapons is the trio of heavy, long-range turbo lasers that allow the Redoubt to engage at a distance, despite its slower speed. Ten quad warhead launchers allow it to put the maximum amount of missile fire on one target or many and support the three longer ranged guns on the ship. Heavy turbolasers designed to target ships both larger and smaller than itself provide the backbone to the armament while fifteen quad laser turrets round out the ship's defensive guns. Lastly, the hangar is slightly unique to the design and assault ships in general. The standard load out for the hangar compliment is a series of gunships and dropships. However, when planning beforehand, commanders can convert the hangar over to a starfighter compliment of fifty-two Narra-class interceptors, including their upgrade packages. The downside is that swapping between packages for the Narra-class is slower as the conversion is almost always ad hoc, meaning that, in general, most Narras from a Redoubt don't swap out after being upgraded.

The ship is slow and heavy, but a nasty piece of work in general and a foe to take seriously in the field.

It varies from kit to kit and are addressed in the subs for them, but for this type of ship it's a moot point as except for super long fleeting engagements (major, major battles or board events. Essentially the exception, not the rule), they're set before the fight and stay that way. They don't swap out once listed and deployed as the equipment isn't up to the standard to do so quickly, meaning that once they're equipped they stay equipped.
