On His Minister's Secret Service (complete)

Faith could not shake the feelings she had about all of this, it still crawled around in her mind like the mosquito that hummed by your ear annoying you until you have no choice but to react and smoosh it.

She called for an Agent, she had no choice.

[member="Fixx Kearney"]

She heard many good things about him and then there was everything in the file she had once told Gir that she did not look at the files, today. She did. It was a story that had played out too many times in the galaxy, she understood, only too well.

Little does anyone know when their lives would change she had not, and she was certain Fixx had not. She had asked for his story and here it was all on a data chit.

She looked at her office it said nothing about her life, it was barren except for pictures of Alderaan. She looked again at the information, was he really ready for this? Was it too soon? It was her call, and that was another reason to have this meeting.

She would brief him, and then decide from his answers if he could handle this and handle [member="Lady Kay"] someone she considered a friend.

Feth. Sometimes she hated this job.

She sent off the request for him to meet her in her office. Let’s see how long it takes for him to show.

There was no point walking around with his tail between his legs - the past was the past, and Fixx was far from a spent force. He had been called to one Senator [member="Faith Balor-Organa"], a name he hadn't heard before, but the Chief of Staff had request he be there. Sharp. If this Balor-Organa was going to be one Fixx reported do, he better make a good impression.

Her Senate office was much like he imagined in the Senate building; it was nothing like Coruscant, but times changed and so did people. Fixx walked through the entrance with a steely determination and sole focus, not caring for any looks or mumbling as he passed by. It wasn't the warmest, so he wore a warm waist length jacket, navy blue trousers and white shirt. Nothing fancy, but still smart when he was on duty.

The agent gave his name outside to the PA and stood by the window, waiting and watching. The Senator would have his file no doubt and know all the little ups and downs that had plagued him and his recent separation from the Republic following Kayleigh Tyven.

"Senator Faith will see you now, Mister Kearney."

Times changed, and so did people. Fixx turned. "Thank you."

He turned and opened the double doors leading into the Senator's office, and who knew what else.

[SIZE=12pt]Faith wore something very simple today in her capacity as the Minister of Intelligence she liked to appear confident. Today she chose to wear black pants suit, with an off-white scoop neckline shirt.[/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]She stood up the moment her doors opened her dark eyes fell upon the Agent. He was not quite what she had expected, older for one. The Definition around his eyes and mouth spoke of age that look though in his eyes. That look was what she was concerned about, it spoke volumes about the pain he felt.[/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]Theo had always told her to get training in reading people she just couldn’t bring herself into that kind of regiment. “Agent Kearney, please come in.” She smiled, “I don’t think we’ve had the pleasure before, I’m Faith Balor, I mean Faith Organa” One might think she was having an identity crisis rather than just confusion. Faith held out her hand, "You can either call me Faith or Minister I've learned to answer to both" She nodded.[/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]“Have seat, can I offer you some tea?” Tea was a comfort even her Tia Rianna would say it was medicinal in its own way.[/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]She tried not to have what was in the file influence her.[/SIZE]

[member="Fixx Kearney"]

Well, she was certainly younger than expected. She must have great contacts to get her where she is, or she was beyond her years in experience and qualification. Fixx was already warming to such a pretty looking Senator. He walked to her desk and stood, not offering the hand of friendship to shake or anything like that – they were already on the same side. Hopefully.

”No, thank you. It’s a pleasure to meet you Minister.”

He took a seat opposite her, noting the lack of warmth to the office. Obviously a temporary place for her to work from.

”And Organa? The Organa-Skywalker bloodline?”

A name like that didn’t go un-noticed.

Already he felt comfortable enough, and he was ready for her evaluation to commence; he could see it on her face the way she was already weighing him up.

[member="Faith Balor-Organa"]

Thin strands of hair tickled against Faith's cheek but did not obstruct her view as Agent Kearney moved towards her. Faith had waited not very long for him to make his appearance so he was prompt, good. It meant the meeting was important to him. A good sign him not taking her offered hand however, phobia? Culture? She wasn't sure.

She pulled her hand back refraining from crossing her arms across her chest as if she were on the defensive. She nodded instead as she sat down leaning back in her chair, "Yes many generations ago." She was not uncomfortable but she had this thing when people brought that up, yes she understood the name recognition but it was the connotations that went with it. Connotations that one too many times lead to disappointment.

Fixx Kearney. Blonde hair. Blue eyes. Glowing tan. Straight white teeth, plump lips, and little dimples in the flesh beneath his cheekbones. How often did he smile? And the question that hung in her mind after caring about so much, working for so long, fighting to make things right, had he worn his iron will to a paper thin sheet. Did he feel anything, was he numb, and was it the only thing guarding his sanity.

If she believed everything she read, the psych eval said yes, and recommended he be put behind a desk where monitoring could be accomplished daily.

Faith never did like doctors.

"Great conversation starter though, Organa you belong to those Organas?" She smiled then.

That last assignment had done a number on him. But Faith knew what it was like to lose someone she knew that when you did, you needed something to keep you going. The problem was there was this invisible line that they all carried inside themselves a moral compass line. Was his intact, or was he a risk, would he cross that line?

"So I know meetings can be like pulling teeth. So tell me two things, one something not in file, and two are you ready for a field assignment?" There was a lot of thought going on behind those blue eyes.

[member="Fixx Kearney"]

Fixx kept his hands rested on the arms of the chair, fingers gently toying with the fabric underneath as the Minister spoke, smiled and sat. He followed her with his eyes and smiled gently back, keeping this nice and civil.

He chuckled a little and nodded his head at her statement about the Organa line. It wasn’t something he was going to go into, just a curious name he hadn’t read about in years.

But the mood certainly stayed professional and the question he expected came up – was he ready. He didn’t frown, question her or flicker his eyes in disgust. Fixx just answered.

”Not on file? Well if I told you all my secrets straight away you’d probably not be as intrigued by me in the future. And am I ready for the field? With pleasure, Minister.”

He had learnt from his mistakes, and built his armour back on. He had never been MORE ready.

”With pleasure.”

[member="Faith Balor-Organa"]

Professional.

Or Distant?

Controlled.

Or Numb?

The risk was on her if she sent him.

He was making an attempt at being charming with her and skirting her question. She didn't know whether to call him on it or let him think he got away with not answering.

She sat back. How did she want to handle this. Following instructions was part of being an agent as well as the ability to improvise. This mission she had in mind involved the Hutt Cartel and from the rumors she heard the Sith.

In the end did it matter? Part of her mind said yes it did. The other part was on the edge looking over going...ehhhhh.

GRIM had lost two agents last week in a covert operation that had gone horribly wrong. She did not want to add another name to the list.

He said he was ready, more than ready.

She shook her head, "I'm always intrigued it's part of my nature to be so." She would leave that there.

She slid her datapad across the desk to him, as her fingers glided over the screens to bring up [member="Lady Kay"], "This is Senator Lady Kay. Her activities are in question. She has dealings with the Hutt Cartel, and there is an unsubstantiated rumor that she's worked with the Sith."

Faith did not look at Fixx now, her gaze was on Kay's face. She considered Kay a friend and to do this was one of those actions that twisted that invisible line inside.

"I need you to look into this quietly. There are a couple of others who might be able to give you a little more information on her, [member="Mantic Dorn"] has been part of her protection detail off and on maybe he's seen something"

Faith sat back. "Questions?"

This event is prior to Lady Kay's capture and incarceration by the Hutts
[member="Fixx Kearney"]

Fixx simply kept his peaceful smile on his face as she evaluated him, giving little away. His eyes moved to the datapad and he leant over to take it, and look at the screens project his target. A Senator who was stinking of corruption? It seemed times change but Governments stay the same.

”Do you want to send her a message, or is this simply observation and intel gathering.”

The message would be more than a simple spoken word. He read over the datapad, taking in her face and some history of her political history. He leant over and placed the pad back on her desk.

”This [member="Mantic Dorn"] - can he be trusted? If your doubt runs to this Senator Kay, then what if this corruption has reached those trying to insinuate her into something as a mere distraction?”

He laced his hands together, not attempting to be hostile or argumentative - simply getting what he needed to do the job.

[member="Faith Balor-Organa"] | [member="Lady Kay"]

Faith understood, "in my last meeting with Kay which was a month ago she said her alliance would always be to the Republic, which is what anyone would say if they thought the Intelligence division would be looking at them for anything"

Faith remembered that feeling in the pit of her stomach, sinking and disturbed that the Senator who sat across from her in her office that day seemed to be feeling out what the actions of her office would do. Kay said she didn't want to get in trouble, and Faith believed her.

But when rumors started about Sith, and knowing how the Republic felt about the Sith. That uneasy feeling she had turned into outright gnawing. Faith reached for the datapad, bringing it to her so she could look at Kay's face.

She seemed so trusting, a friend. Faith tried to hide her concern. "If she is a spy or a collaborator I don't want to give her reason to run so no I won't be sending any messages. Besides after our last meeting I'm sure it has crossed her mind more than once that we'd come looking"

Faith turned the datapad off. Could Mantic be involved? Faith covered her pale pink lips with her left hand as her she gazed off to a corner of the room gathering her thoughts, "If Kay is the distraction, and others are using her as the front, I want the puppet masters."

Faith got up from her desk she needed to put things clearly and for that she needed movement, which she could do in her office. Pacing helped. She stepped to the window first looking out at what remained of the once glorious Republic.

"Fixx" she used his first name to help herself feel relaxed, so she could think. "[member="Mantic Dorn"] has served as my protector on a few missions he is a Jedi" She shook her head again then she walked the length of her office, her hands behind her back as she did, "My initial reaction is yes. But because he has been close to me I may be blinded, and because he's a Jedi." She turned her face away she felt like she was betraying her brother Garith, and Tia Rianna the Jedi in her family. They would cringe to hear her words but this was not about them.

"I always think Jedi are the good guys" she said, evenly without the crack of her voice that was lingering waiting to break. "so assume he is trustworthy unless he gives you reason to think otherwise." She turned and walked towards her desk.

"Does that help?"

[member="Fixx Kearney"] / [member="Lady Kay"]

The agent followed the Minister with his eyes, listening to her picture painted with words, and movement. Pacing the room to collect her thoughts, and reflecting out of the window to a world she felt responsible for protecting.

”It helps, thank you.”

He drummed his fingers on the arm of the chair, watching her at the window and letting the silence hang. Best way forward in his mind would to be locate [member="Mantic Dorn"] and get what he could from this Jedi and then focus on the whereabouts of one [member="Lady Kay"]. He knew Jedi were nothing but warriors gifted with the Force, but Jedi or not, no name could keep them ever on the side of good – he had seen evidence of that.

”Don’t worry, Minister. I’ll find out where Senator Kay is aligned, one way or another. It’s what I do best.”

Remaining seated, Fixx took a moment to look along the back wall at a large picture hanging there, and very little else.

[member="Faith Balor-Organa"]

Faith nodded her approval.

"It's what your file says, it's what you do best." She couldn't think of anything else to say about the mission itself.

"Keep in touch when you know something, or if you need something" She had a feeling that he wouldn't need much right now.

"Be careful Agent Kearney I don't know what you'll find but if the Sith are involved, be mindful of them" She couldn't say don't get killed as much as she wanted. She didn't want to have to memorialize another agent.

"If there is nothing else"

Ana chose that moment to knock on Faiths' door and bring in the tea tray. Faith smiled, "Ana impeccable timing thank you" She smiled brightly at her assistant a woman slightly older than Faith. But Ana was a looker still honey colored hair, brilliant blue eyes, curves in all the right places including padding to make her shapely, and confidence in herself and job. Faith admired her.

Ana had been the one waiting for her when she got home from The Wheel she had been the voice of comfort as Faith mourned the loss of her husband and son something she had not done in the 8 years that she held onto their memories.

Faith looked over to [member="Fixx Kearney"] again and smiled. Tea always made her smile.

Fixx stood at the vocal summary from the Senator Organa.

”Minister,” he smiled, concluding their brief but valuable meeting.

He turned as a pretty little thing brought in the tea. He flicked his eyes over her once and shot her a twinkle from those blue eyes. Fastening the button on his jacket, Fixx turned and walked to the door, reaching to open it, but stopping suddenly.

"Oh, my file,” he turned. ”doesn't tell you I don't drink tea.”

His lips curled into grin as he left the Minister's office with the names he needed.

[member="Faith Balor-Organa"] | [member="Lady Kay"] | [member="Mantic Dorn"]

Faith watched Fixx leave even with his little retort about the tea. She picked up her cup and made a silent toast, "Godspeed" She took a sip and had to sit back and wait. What would happen next.

Is Kay a spy?
Is Mantic still a Jedi?
Will Fixx lose his mind doing the job?
Will she be sorry about all of this tomorrow?

The Jedi Temple
Ossus, Adega System

The Republic transport came into Ossus as expected; the Minister [member="Faith Balor-Organa"] had relayed information of Fixx’s arrival for the officials. A world where the Jedi thrived, developed and carried out their operations as guardians of peace and justice in these troubled times. But the guardians weren’t always angelic creatures, and Fixx knew very well that a Jedi could be just as corrupt as the Sith forces and Imperials.

Still, he was here not to bring down an Order, but to meet one [member="Mantic Dorn"] regarding one Senator [member="Lady Kay"]. The conclusions Fixx wanted was to find out more about Senator Kay, her dealings with the Republic and her general activity. Also, to suss out the Jedi Mantic Dorn as he was so involved. It was a sorry state of affairs when trust was as fragile as it was today, but then that was Fixx’s role; trust no-one.

In his casual attire; cream trousers, navy top and jacket, his blaster was tucked away out of sight and he was fresh-faced after the journey.

With a gentle landing on the outskirt of the imposing temple, the place was alive with Jedi, soldiers and other assorted beings going about their duty. He would wait on the pad for Mantic, and hopefully those in charge would have notified the Jedi of the agent’s arrival.

Fixx stepped down and fastened his jacket, hands in pockets, and waited, looking rather casual amongst these bodies always ready for war and serving the galaxy at a moment’s notice.

While the day at the acdemy had been schedued for teaching, word about a republic agent who sought him, was not something he could ignore. Instructing the class to meditate on his words he left the room and made haste to reach the landing pod where [member="Fixx Kearney"] was waiting.

Mantic made his way down the steps nodding to thos few he passed on the way down. While this was the heart of what Mantic considered true jedi, their numbers were dwindling and poor reputation and mixup had given them a reputation that seldom cast a good light on them.

To assist republic officials was therefore something Mantic often prioritized, less it were against the code of the jedi order.

Mantic came to a halt in front of [member="Fixx Kearney"] and made a polite bow.

"Good day agent, I am Knight Dorn of the republic jedi order. I was told you sought me?"

It took a while to spot the Jedi coming to collect him, many blended in - their robes, their general attire and look. But here was one looking like he was in a favorable position within those walls. With a bow, he introduced himself, and Fixx, while nothing like a Jedi following an ancient code, nodded his head and offered his hand.

”Mantic Dorn? The name's Kearney. Fixx Kearney. My pleasure.”

So began the walk.

”Thank you, I won't take up your time, I assume you're a busy man. What can you tell me about one Senator Kay of Commenor?”

He would offer information when needed, but was well aware these Jedi had powers beyond that of mortal men and could break a man's mind with a blink of the eye. Fixx wasn't ready to be broken today.

[member="Mantic Dorn"] | [member="Lady Kay"]

Mantic looked up at the man in front of him and shook his hand. He sensed doubt in this man. But doubt was not fact, or something to judge anyone from. Instead he started to walk alongside [member="Fixx Kearney"] and listened intently on his questions. He had been informed that this was an agent of GRIM. Hence there was no reason to hide anything.

As the passed through the gardens Mantic collected his thoughts on the senator.

"Well agent," he began. He was himself not really done thinking it all through as of yet but he would offer what he could.

"I have met Lady Kay on a few occations, most notably as her escort to the world of Atrisia. There she was voicing the republics concern for the local government to side with the One Sith." Mantic fell silent for a moment. Memories resurfaced as he spoke about the event.

"While she did try she failed to convince them. The sith had its tentacles planted deep in the officials of Atrisia already. In fact, we barely got out of there alive. Her main opposition in the debate pointed out that the senator had a price on her head. I thought we were going to get lynched by now... But a bounty hunter stepped forward to claim her, which saved both her and I that day."

"I believe the bounty hunter must have had some sort of connection to the sith, how else could he roam there freely and escape with his price? This disturbs me since the senator seemed to know this man somehow. It might be her own agent I suppose, or one of your colleges perhaps?" he asked openly to [member="Fixx Kearney"].

"Now, regardless the bounty hunter released us both without offering myself any explanation and against better judgement I was content with bringing the senator home alive."

"Only afterwards I started to truly doubt it all. I cant shake the feeling that it was all a set stage, myself and Lady Kay only pieces in a much larger game."

Mantic stroked his beard thoughtfully.

"Apart from this I have merely seen her on times when I have escorted other senators. She seem to enjoy socializing . But then, which politician is not guilty of that?"

While he listened, Fixx paid little attention to the other Jedi around him or the Temple. While it was a magnificent structure, it was a world not of his own and he wouldn’t understand it even if he tried. [member="Mantic Dorn"] painted a convincing picture, but one that showed the ways in which mysterious people had mysterious motives.

”Interesting. In these times it must be hard to know who to trust and how far to trust them when the Sith are involved.”

Rounding a corner, he frowned gently.

”Do you know the name of this bounty hunter or an alias? What they looked like?”

[member="Lady Kay"]

As the two paced down the hallway Mantic took a deep breath.

"Yes, as you can see our halls are rather empty compared to times of old. the jedi are few left. Well at least those of us in the republic order. Those who do remain will keep serving the republic though. I assure you." he smiled but decided not to linger on the topic. [member="Fixx Kearney"] was probably not oriented into the various force sensitive communities that were poping up like mushrooms during a rainy fall and draining the original order of its strength.
It was a topic that Mantic usually stayed on and had brought up countless of times with countless of people. This time however, he doubted that the agent found it interesting enough to keep bringing it up though ad he continued to his next question instead.

"I am sorry agent. his name is unknown to me. But, I can tell you that he was extremely well trained. I could not detect him until he stood right next to the senator. If he had sought to kill her I could not have stopped him at that time." Mantic furrowed a brow at that. He recalled how he had sensed absolutely nothing from that man.

"Something about the bounty hunter was amiss, but I can not place my finger on it. Now, having been given time to think on it I can't still really understand why they let this bounty hunter walk away. with both myself and a republic senator. @lady Kay seemed to recognize him quickly though and given how she acted I dare say she trusted him."

Silence accompanied them for a while until Mantic remembered a last detail.
"oh," he suddenly recalled. "The bounty on her head was real though. It seem she had upset a hutt and that is the cause of it all."

He nodded. [member="Mantic Dorn"] seemed to be giving as much information as possible, and it was clear the Senator was the next step. But a Hutt? Now was she involved in a Cartel?

”I don’t suppose you know the name of the Hutt in question do you or the Cartel involved? It seems our Senator has fingers in many pies.”

Careful not to say too much, Fixx mused on how clear it was why the Minister wanted her investigated. Dealings with Sith, bounty hunters and Hutts all on time of a Republic Senator wasn’t the best looking portfolio.
