SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Clawed Climbing Anchors: The "feet" of the walker can be used to climb walls of lightly steeled buildings, allowing it to traverse to otherwise unreachable areas. (x) (Second Paragraph under Characteristics, last sentence.)
Strengths:
  • Assault Walker: It is a heavy walker with a swivel Heavy Particle Cannon for destroying nearby buildings and armored vehicles, three repeating blasters on all sides to deter infantry units and a Photon Mortar for targets just out of reach. Overall, a very dangerous Walker to face alone.
  • Climbable Walker: One of the few Walkers having the ability to climb onto vertical surfaces. This allows it to climb up mountains and station themselves there before firing on their targets for maximum effect.
Weaknesses:
  • Very Expensive: Each unit costs over a hundred fifty thousand credits to produce, making them rarely used on the battlefield unless required.
  • The Head goes Boom: If the armor is pierced inside the bulbous head, it can detonate its entire payload at once, effectively destroying the entire Octuptarra Magna Tri-Droid MK II.
  • The Controls Won't Respond!: Without a command ship to relay commands, the droids will effectively turn off and will not respond to any other commands without authorization codes from a relay source. This can be a pain for those trying to get away as this may mean to leave them behind in combat.
  • Anchor for Combat!: To use the Heavy Particle Cannon or the Photon Mortar, the Octuptarra Magna Tri-Droid MK II must stop and plant its feet into the ground before firing. This can be a tell tale sign for some commanders after a while to possibly focus fire or to take cover. This process can take from five to twenty seconds depending on the terrain.
  • Extensive Downtime: If the head is damaged in any engagement, it requires the entire bulbous head to be disassembled piece by piece and rebuilt before it can be put back into action. This can take two to four days and failure to do so many expose the Photon Mortar payload.

Description:

It was an accidental discovery to say the least. While on one of the tours in the Scraplands, HK-36 saw an unusual bulbous droid barely sticking out of a large pile. With the help of several scavengers, droids and Haon Hafey, they uncovered an old Octuptarra Magna Tri-Droid design that once uncovered, had a signal given out from one of the Metal Lords command ships and went to life, attacking everything in its path before finding which frequency it was and shutting it down. Thankfully, no one was killed in the incident but considering the amount of damage it caused in its few minutes, HK-36 ordered for the droid to be remodeled for combat, seeing as they already had the command codes and frequency by chance.

With the Tri-Droid stripped for parts, it became very obvious as to why the Tri-Droid attacked in the first place. It was still operating on a attack frequency and in the following week, decrypted nearly every command and more so, discovered several other locations in the Scraplands that held other Octuptarra Magna Tri-Droids to which started a very slow recovery process. Over time, twelve were recovered and started to be converted into a Mark II variant with the help of various researchers and engineers.

The largest problem with the old design was the missile rack system on the inside, it being clunky inside the bulbous and very inaccurate once fired. This was entirely gutted and replaced with a Photon Mortar system, the racks being replaced with four small rotating racks that once depleted, pushes up the next set of mortars to use. Another problem was the laser cannons below the central ball as it became such a confusing mess to do and with all the extra power output from not having to use its heat sink, it gave a light bulb to one of the designers. A unique swivel Heavy Particle Cannon was implemented to spin around and target others though on initial testing while moving, both have either forced the Tri-Droid to the ground or flew it back several feet and tripped it. While it could stand back up, they had to implement a few sets of code to anchor before firing.

They had kept the three repeating blasters from the original design and on testing, still found that it was viable in todays standards, allowing some cost cutting. However it became apparent the design was expensive for two reasons. The first was the specialized Droid Brain, not many of them exist anymore and the effort to recreate it so far has failed and it costs well over twenty thousand credits to obtain. The second reason was the bulbous head as it requires the entire thing to be removed and rebuilt piece by piece every time it is damaged.

On the first day of testing, almost three weeks later with the model, a group of bandits in an older style yet unknown type of tank approached to attack the facility. It was destroyed in a matter of seconds from the Heavy Particle Cannon as it was non-existent afterwards. Any ground forces that survived were destroyed from the repeating blasters as they approached with some of the Metal Lords watching. With approval, they had a go ahead with the design with at least a dozen ready for deployment though warned that replacing one could be near impossible if they supply of Droid Brains for those types exhaust.
