Kenna had been planning this for weeks, months even. She knew her Master's nighttime schedule like the back of her hand and she had been watching him for the last several months. Playing nice had gotten her privileges in which his other slaves didn't get and such advantages she planned to take full advantage of tonight. If she were going to escape it would do her no good to be locked up, no she had to be smart about all of this. If he caught her trying to sneak out the master would skin her alive or worse. She had bare witnessed to some of these things and Kenna wanted no part of it. She was confident in herself however to be the one whom did actually get away.
Once her had fallen asleep around midnight, give or take an hour, Kenna slipped out of the small closest that she had been sleeping in. It wasn't much but considering the alternative it was much better and plus from here it was a straight shoot down the stairs and out the door. She just needed to be careful not to alert the dogs or trip the security system. She wasn't worried in regards to waking him up as he was a rather heavy sleeper.
It didn't take her long before she had slipped out the window into the welcoming cool night breeze. Throwing the dogs a few treats she ran to the forest behind the home. Kenna believed the security system only was for the doors but she wasn't about to wait and find out. She was for once in her life, free.
Now
The forest was an unknown world to Kenna full of sounds and sights that she had only read in stories. On the first day of freedom every little sound made her jump and spin in circles. She couldn't help but be afraid that the alarm had sounded and that she would be dragged back. The eighteen year old had learned quickly though that in order to survive out here she needed to use her brain. She moved by night gathering food as she went and by day she somewhat slept. Kenna didn't know where she was going nor where the nearest village was. It didn't matter though, she was determined to find it and start a life there. She was a survivor.
Leaning against a tree Kenna sighed happily as she raised her face to the warm sun. It has been three days by her account and no sign of anyone coming for her. She felt it would be alright if only for a little while to let her guard down and enjoy the beauty that surrounded her. If someone was going to be coming for her, they would have come by now.
