BIOGRAPHY: Born on the logging world Pii IV shortly after the formation of the CIS, Montag was set up for a mediocre life from day one. His parents were poor, often drunk, and largely ignored their only son, who learned to fend for himself from an extremely young age because of neglect. He cooked his own meals, cleaned/acquired his own clothes, and walked five miles every morning to the nearest public school.

The self sufficent child rarely talked to others and buried himself in the only constant in his life, his education. He would often write complicated essays on the nature of his classroom lessons, examining complex themes someone his age shouldn't be able to grasp, and later submit them to his teachers. His teachers were so impressed that many of his essays were run up the education suatem and as a result he was put in the most advanced classes his school could offer. That was when he first began to draw the attention of the planetary government. He was eight years old.

As the years went on Montag showed a strong interest in galactic history and alien languages. He was a firm believer that the study of history would lead to a greater understanding of the future and perhaps prevent mistakes from their inevitable reoccurrence from the ignorant. Montag seemed to be on the fast track to becoming a professor himself and by the age of thirteen had already been contacted by a few universities who stared that if he kept on his course, scholarships were guaranteed. Montag felt extremely grateful to the CIS, whom he attributed the rise in public education to.

It was around this time that the CIS was looking to secure it's place in the galaxy. For that it needed beings with extraordinary abilities and a firm loyalty to the CIS. For this, mercs simply wouldn't cut it. The CIS High Command came up with a solution, to recruit young beings of uncanny ability into a program that would later become known as the Phantoms. At age fourteen he was approached by a recruiter who offered him a chance to live a life of duty. To serve the government who was responsible for his solace and education. How could he refuse?

For seven years he went through a brutal training regiment with seventy five other exceptional young people. They were granted the bare minimun of creature comforts and lived without contact with the outside world beyond what their instructors told them. Which became a heavy handed issue for those who actually cared about their families, Montag was not one such being. Shooting, languages, profiles of galactic governments, threats, extreme amounts of physical training, and an intense form of martial arts reminiscent of both Echani and Royal Guard techniques. The training molded the young teens into trained operatives, capable of serving as both Special Forces Operators and Intelligence Agents. At the end only twenty five remained. The first Phantoms. The beings most organic CIS Military aspired to be from then on out.

Montag's seven years of service after his graduation were hard on him. He has spent the entirety of his Phantom career flipping back and forth between assignments of both Military and Intelligence nature. He's lost friends, killed more beings than he's proud of, and has been left with a sense of bitterness that is often overly clichéd in popular entertainment. He's both proud of and ashamed of his service and will continue to serve out of an extreme loyalty to the CIS until the day he dies.

JOURNAL: Montag keeps one on a secure datapad in the CIS archives.
