Mariya was born to the noble family of Jesslyn and Jarek Underhill by official record, of the Naboo. She was in fact the child of Jesslyn and Torlen Pyne, thereby making her the half sibling to [member="Jamie Pyne"]. This information was kept a well guarded secret by both Jesslyn and Torlen for years. It would take eleven years for Jamie to coincidentally uncover this secret of her fathers aboard a ship that belonged to Mariya’s mother. Confronted with the revelation of this information, Jamie pressured her father to reveal this information to both his wife, Jamie’s mother, and Mariya’s mother. This information understandably strained the relationships of the three, yet it was able to bring together the two sisters and create a strong bond as they got to know one another as the siblings they never knew they had.Her life had been, up to that point, entirely average for that of a Nabooian noble girl. Between her studies she is a strong willed, charismatic and adventurous girl, though one who thoroughly lacks the discipline to sit still for very long. She has quite an issue with authority, both towards her instructors as well as her parents and strangers. An attitude that tends to land her into trouble rather often. While her half sister is of notably fairer skin and lighter eye and hair tones, Mariya is quite the opposite, having a darker bronzed complexion, with matching chocolate hair and eyes.
Despite having not been graced with the gift of the Force like her elder sister, Mariya is an incredibly skilled pilot. Where exactly the knack for such a thing came from is hard to tell, given that no member of the Pyne, nor Underhill family were known aces. Surprisingly she is notably handy with a blaster as well, much to the disapproval of Jamie. Where the two sisters have a great deal in common in terms of things they enjoy, where their differences emerge are clear. Mariya prefers a much more direct approach, finding her way out of scraps by any means necessary, and keeping her words short. Diplomacy was hardly something she gave much credence to. When in danger, she preferred to shoot first, escape, and ask questions later. When you didn’t have the gift of galactic magic at your fingertips, instinct became more important than listening to the words of others.
At present Mariya is the leader of the 588th Regiment, code named Night Witches. The squadron is a small elite group of starfighter pilots tasked with protecting Naboo’s sovereign air space. However, her assigned role doesn’t stop the girl from finding means of exploration both domestic and abroad when she can. She was an explorer at heart, and curiosity drove her to the far reaches of the galaxy. For a time she had even been a smuggler, though never transporting anything overly illegal. The term was more referring to sneaking medicines, supplies, and such to planets under oppression.
