A dirt cheap fighter intended for company security, militias, and defense forces on a budget. The fighter is decently armored and offers a good field of view for the pilot, but costs were cut by cheapening the shield and hyperdrive to last-gen models. Maneuverability was also traded off for interception speed, fitting the role of getting into position quickly before disabling or destroying a target with heavy lasers and ion fire. While some may see the lack of heavier ordinance as a downside, MA’s marketing team spin it as an advantage, claiming it lowers operating costs while easing supply lines. It also means that the Malignos keeps its full firepower for the duration of a fight, rather than having to return and fill up on expensive missiles or torpedoes.
These traits, along with its easy maintenance and forgiving tolerance to part-swapping, have also endeared the Malignos to pirates. Ostensibly made to combat these threats, Mercenary Arms is known for its lax selling practices and wide availability, and many fighters have found their way into the hands of less than legal groups either wholesale or through ‘stolen’ shipments.
