Looking For Lords(And Ladies) (Leaders for small settlements)

Lords and Hamlets
(Lords, Hamlet, and Designing are links)
Greetings Roleplayers of Chaos! Is your character a poor politician, an up-and-coming leader, or just someone who is interested in having Nobility? Well, Eddak has an offer for you! Lords/Ladies and Hamlets. First off, let me say this will not be a Barony, you will not gain a free castle, nor have a barracks full of elite soldiers at your beck and call. Your defense forces will be rabble or militia - which of the two depends on what you put forward to training them and aiding them. While Gamorreans will be an ever looming threat, should you ever feel the need, you can send a messenger (or use a holonet transmitter, if you have one constructed) to Fort Galderra and request troops, and Galderra will answer... but if you find they are harassing you a little too much, and Galderra can't spare the troops... well, let's hope your settlement is up to the task of defense!

This is all located on Pzob

This is an open opportunity for anyone who is not incredibly rich, yet have some worth to their name perhaps, to take up ownership of an entire hamlet (or town, whatever you wish to call it). You will be able to make your own laws, as long as they do not upset King Eddak, have your own court system, your own military, everything - and be helped by the Royal Court. Every now and then, shipments of materials will be sent to you - but you don't get any metal. Pzob is rare for metals, and any found are mined for Fort Galderra. Of course, you can purchase metals, but anything above Medieval-era technology is extremely expensive, and there are some rules to ruling a Hamlet. Durasteel? The rarest of fine metals, rarely used in weaponry, usually used to help reinforce castle walls. Iron? You could probably catch wind of some, purchase some to form weapons for your people if you have a Blacksmith and Ironworks, but any metal mines found will be seized by Galderra.

If you would be interested, and interested in following the mini-game set up I have to rule and grow your Hamlet, leave a reply or PM! I can answer any and all questions. If you are interested in going straight to available Hamlets, scroll down! Otherwise, check up on the rules of having a Hamlet and how the mini-game works below!

Hamlet Rules
  • Keep Galderra Culture - High Class Medieval to 1750's (Castles and Pirate Ships). You can be medieval, or go the route of a fishing port, or otherwise. No wild west, no super technology.
  • Allowed Technology - Many high tech options are not allowed as it is costly. Some harshly conflict with the planets culture. Any level of plumbing is allowed (as long as you foot the bill), no outside construction companies or companies of any kind unless mercenary to help you with security. Wells are obviously allowed and Galderran workers can assist you in most construction. Absolutely no Space Ports. Galderra is the only one allowed to have a space port. If someone you know parks their spacecraft anywhere on Pzob other than Galderra Space Port, report them, and theywill be fined and you will get a reward. Small Holonet Comms Stations, Small Water Purifiers, and anything similar (Questions? Ask!). Remember, anything above Medieval to 1750's requires you foot the bill to make, Galderra only ships free wood and stone every so often.
  • Military Forces - To ensure the Hamlets don't feel like overthrowing the King, you are only allowed to have support of a fairly basic mercenary group (If a real company, Tier 3 max), and if you buy weapons like slugthrowers, you will begin getting taxed. Any form of weapons other than slugthrowers and swords (example: DC-15 level), and found out, you will be charged to hand them all over, or lose your Lord status.
  • Commerce - We deal in common nickel and bronze currency, sometimes with gold. Credits are always accepted. Nickel and Bronze mines will not be seized by the Fort, but Gold mines will be, and you will be granted additional forces/resources for your find. It's a great idea to find a worthy trade item, such as fish, nickel or bronze mine, or some sort of special crop.
  • Affiliations - You may own a company, be affiliated with a company or faction of any kind, as long as they do not hamper the business or rulings of Fort Galderra.
  • Size - You can not grow without buying land (roleplay thread with the King. Think like... asking for a pay raise from your boss). Certain buildings are required for Eddak to approve. You can not move your Hamlet, nor build where you do not own. Found a mine a bit far from your Hamlet? Request rights to build anything on it or near it.
  • King's Law First - When Eddak or an approved nobleman from Fort Galderra comes to your Hamlet, only Fort Galderra laws apply to them. You must offer refuge and safe passage to them
  • Rules May Change, Some May Be Added. Do Not Go Against The King.
Playstyle

Depending on what land you take, you may start with a shack, a nearby mine, a farm, or nothing at all. In order to build a single structure of any profession (Blacksmith, Farm house[Adds farms], Toolsmith, Manor[increases land size, allows larger free resources and worker allowance, i.e. more workers sent to your village], etc), you will need a Standard 10 post Development Thread. You will be submitting your hamlet to the Codex and updating it as necessary.

"That's a whole lot of work, what do I get out of this?"

Fort Galderra is offering you a seat to rise to the top from absolutely nothing, giving you free resources, and paying for your workers. You gain a nobleman rank, land, eventually a large home to call your own, ability to build your riches from nothing and show for it. As a nobody, you have nothing. You have to work for everything you do. Your church burnt down? Then pick up some lumber and a hammer, and start rebuilding. Instead of saying you're this great person, show your effort to the galaxy that you have the prowess and means to make greatness out of nothing. Show your worth, instead of spouting nothing but words.

Also, Eddak or a NPC of note can assist you in Restricted Material gathering out in the universe.

Houses, farm plots (require a farm house, about one or two large plots per house), wells, "cheap establishments" (see below), and other non-profession buildings require no development, but encouraged mention in other development threads.

"Cheap Establishments" - A cheap establishment, is any profession building that doesn't actually have a building; the workshop and anvil are outside, as an example. Maybe a tent or tarp covering as a makeshift place of business, or out in the open among a Marketplace. Of course, don't expect to make swords and polearms, and mass-produce pickaxes from these places. In Company Standards, this only offers Unique tools (one at a time), or repairs to broken tools.

Don't want to be a minor Lord of a tiny Hamlet? Build, progress, grow, expand, show your worth. Gain the ability to have your own standing army, get further help to tier up your company, move on to the stars and get approved for an orbital space station, create space ships... or become the pride of Galderran Navy, having vast amounts of ships. But more or less, you may start with very little, or absolutely nothing.

This is a Free System - Free from Major Faction, Minor Faction, niche, cult, or group societies. Everyone helps everyone, everyone roleplays with each other. Whether you be a Lord or a Peasant, Militia, or Blacksmith. You can work here, grow and expand with a fair and helpful group, and be allowed to go out and see the galaxy. You are only who you say you are. Under Galderra's flag, you are the position granted to you, but you are not confined to it. Your affiliations do not matter here. Of course, if the affiliation negatively impacts Fort Galderra, then it matters.

Types of Settlements
Consider these like Tech Trees, advance from the one before it to become the next

  • (Civilian Expansions)
  1. Isolated Dwelling
  2. Crossroads Village
  3. Hamlet
  4. Manor
  5. Village
  6. Estate Village

  • (Civilian & Military Expansions)
  1. Outpost (Can only start from a Manor. Choosing the Outpost Expansion, you have to tear down any military structures to go back to Civilian Expansions)
  2. Stockade
  3. Borough

A Borough is not as large as a main fortification, or fort, like Galderra. It is the smallest type of Keep with stone walls you can get.

  • (Civilian & Military Nobleman Housing)
  • These are the types of castles or Keeps you may construct (These are not tech-tree like)
  1. Motte Bailey
  2. Shell Keep
  3. Fortified House
  4. L-plan Castle

If you have a type in mind, and it isn't vastly large, request it (No Star Forts)

  • (Civilian Housing)
  • Not only can military expansions have fortified buildings, some being very legal under Galderra Law
  • Examples:
  • Bastle House
  • Tower House

*Note: No one may become Barons/Baronesses. In other words, your standing militia can not become a standing army. When war is called, your militia forces can not leave the settlement, they are only meant for hardened defense. To receive a barony, one must roleplay with Eddak and work through the ranks of a Squire and Knight, and only then may Barony be rewarded to a character. That Lordship comes with much less restrictions than a normal land owner.

Oke thanks.

Wel i wanted to know a few tings.

First wat about tech Thad is physically part of the character, sines this character has a mechanical arm (lost his actual arm in a experiment, kind of self taught/mad sientised type character)?

I know there is like a tax on slugthrowes but wat if somewan revers engineers one, or knows Howe to produce a relatively simpel gun (tink matchlock/ flintlock kind of weapons), would Thad be allowed, to than produce these relatively simpel weapons ( again tink flintlock, noting realy high tech)? On the same topic is experimentation allowed to create unice weapons/items, thad would fit the time (Davinci like, waky/cray weaponry)

Is this society just low tech or is it anti science/ superstitious aswel, howe would it react to fore exempel somewan cuting up ar corps to exemen it and study it.

Do you have to folow a template in creating your realm, or is thad up to the individual?

If i got any more questions i'l ask them if thad is oke whit you.

Youre typing is a little confusing... If you could try a little harder, I'd appreciate it. I'll try and answer your questions. Your mechanical arm and such is fine. If you require a charging station or something, that's okay - if it's in your house.

Technology is not allowed because Eddak is giving people he doesn't know the means to make their own community and rule it. Restricting technology and powerful weapons is a way to make sure people don't think about rising up against him. By "expensive" it means Eddak has a small amount of galactic credits. Purely his galactic credit count is under 20,000 so he would rather spend it on more useful things. He has given old slugthrowers to his medieval militia, and Galactic-Standard slugthrowers to his space troopers.

You make tech, it will be seized or heavily taxed. If you can't ICly pay it (I don't accept "rich" characters for lord positions) you lose your lord status and the land.

"Estate Village" means you personally own the village. Right now, it is leased to you. You haven't paid for it. It's like a contract.

You can make do with spears, swords, and daggers, if you purchase the iron.

Purchasing the iron can be a background thing. I mean, you can make whatever you want without roleplay, but that means Eddak gets money. And if you make too much (like a thousand iron swords), you're gonna have to show how you got the iron, and the money for the iron.

You would show it by development threads, codex submissions, that you've grown your settlements. Every now and then I will let you know when resources, and workers, are dropped off. Oh and, the workers, are not slaves or your private citizens. They are hired people from Galderra, and they can be called back.

For you "anti-science" question, no. Technology is expensive for Eddak. His soldiers have what he can afford. If he let every settlement get Ion Cannons then they could call civil war and break from Eddaks control.

For Laws... Think modern day. The most immoral thing you're allowed to do is slaughter Gamorreans. It's the Wild West out there, and there's some who don't like our expansion. But we don't tolerate scalping, cruel and unusual torture, or any other disgusting behavior, other than what was just mentioned.

To answer your example question, you'd be arrested and charged for it. If you did it again, you would be banished from Pzob. Banishing means if you're seen on Pzob again, anyone can shoot you on sight for a reward.

If you think an attack is coming to your settlement, or come under attack, Galderra Militia or spacetroopers can be sent to help defend you.
