The Cilghal-class is designed to serve as a more commonly available version of, or supplement to, the unique Reconciliation-class Medical Frigate. Its modular medical bays were removed utterly, save for a single medical droid. This allowed the Liberty's Veil a total of 300 tons of cargo space as a base number. However, a full one hundred tons of that space has been devoted to three specific additions.
The first is a stygium cloaking device, using crystals personally collected by the Bard and Monroe during the Shev'la Kal project. The entirety of Mandalorian-owned stygium went to that project, but a small number was harvested on the Bard's personal time and expense, sufficient for one small transport ship. His expertise with hibridium and stygium cloaking devices makes this one of the most reliable stygium cloaks ever built.
The second is a thrust trace damper, hardwired into the engines. This negates the empty ship's speed advantage over the heavily loaded stock model; as a result, its engine performance is identical, but the modified ship's drive efflux is vastly harder to detect.
The third is a gravitic modulator, hand-built by the Bard out of components derived from artificial gravity plating and gravity well generators, after study of antique StealthX gravitic modulators in the Republic's possession. The gravitic modulator works from a network of seven projection points on the ship's exterior. Damage to those armored points will make the gravitic modulator nonfunctional, or force the gravitic modulator's signal amplitude and power distribution to be adjusted manually.
The stock ship is designed for a minimal operations crew, relying on heavy automation. This makes the Cilghal-class expensive, though still cheaper than a full Reconciliation-class. The Bard has enhanced the automation, and replaced some of the crew requirement with astromechs; however, the Liberty's Veil retains the same minimum crew as the stock model. The ship has no weapons; its sole defenses are redundant shields, paired tractor/pressor beams, enough speed to evade even the fastest capital ships, and the armored panels which can slide into place over its windows. As in the stock model, the vessel is operated, not from an external bridge, but from a lightly armored holograph-intensive pod within the ship.
Like the much larger Remembrance-class Battlecruiser, the Cilghal-class was designed, or at least heavily influenced, by the Mon Calamari diaspora on Eshan.
Another 100 tons of cargo space is occupied by a small speeder/mechanic bay, and by an armory for Mia. This reduces the total cargo capacity to 100 tons. The passenger capacity also went by the wayside, along with one of the paired tractor/pressor beams, in favor of an improved sensor/communications suite for the Bard and support structures for the cloaking device. The resulting ship is expensive but unique -- and barely adequate to keep Mia Monroe a step ahead of the Dark Council's death mark.
