CULTURE
  • Diet: Herbivore, Omnivore: Wheat, barley, apples, fruit, veggies, meat.
  • Communication: The creatures howl but can understand basic somewhat
  • Technology level: No technology use
  • Religion/Beliefs:
    • The Jun-la are taken and raised from birth to be trackers by the people of Shri-tal. Their sense of smell great for in ancient times going after prey while in modern times it is useful for tracking missing people, escaped prisoners.

They are a highly respected creature but not revered. Their value is there but the culture as a whole knows it can make do without them and some get shipped off world to private collectors or bought by hunting organization.

The Jun'la's claws are sharp but made for gripping and digging. Against class 3 armor and below they can slash and damage or leather armor but plastoid, durasteel it cannot cut through. With the less aggressive nature of the creatures they do not often attack other outside of their species or smaller animals. The ones in the mountains are more aggressive near the sith settlement but can't slash through most modern armors.
  • General behavior:
    • An ordinary day for the creatures is hunting down the scents presented to it. They can do other things like be used with reigns to ride from city to city or take relaxing walks through the countryside.

Their mating rituals are generally done in caves up in the mountains and it is time when their start shedding their fur coat for the winter season and are moved to do their thing. Excess children are sold off after enough time to private buyers and collectors or zoos.

They are semi intelligent in that they can learn with enough repetition. A trainer telling them 'food' enough and giving them something to eat will get them to associate the sound of the word with food down the line. Same for other commands but they are not able to operate vehicles.

In times of domination the males fight by bashing their heads together and using their claws. One of the few times they really go at it and let loose is during the mating seasons for females. However Jun-la in the wild have done it for control of roaming packs.

In the winter season they don't hibernate, being able to use their sense of smell to find food under the snow and growing throughout the other seasons a thick coat that will shed come spring. The roam around looking for food and caring for any young that might be around in the group.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Tamed Jan'la are used by the people of Shri-tal for their extremely proficient and strong tracking abilities. On the world they can track a person nearly anywhere (except over oceans but a small lake to the other side) are fast and agile with a good amount of stamina when fully grown. Their not violent but can eat anything around being omnivorous and able to eat nearly anything that smells good.

The people of Shri-tal would use the creatures to go from city to city in times past and till do as they have been replaced by speeders and ships. However some still enjoy leisurely trips through the mountains and countryside s they can be found nearly anywhere on the planet. Their thick furs and size able to be used for beasts of burden. Its star shape nose has been used for aphrodisiacs and enhancement concoction for eons. The ones from the polar region are especially furry with thick hides and trained by the ancient purebloods to fight and attack.

With many of the attacks on Shri-Tal and a few of the worlds the jedi had moved domesticated them to. There was many saved and brought to a handful of worlds to repopulate and be able to transfer them. One several of the worlds they could prove effective in helping search for missing vilagers, children and objects... They could be used to carry large amounts of supplies for building or to replace creatures lost in attacks. Atrisia getting several dozen to raise for the Jade screamers and villages that grow large amounts of crops and or mining groups for ores.

To create a ride able creature that the hunters guild could tame and use as well as anyone else in the galaxy.
...Awwwwww. A species made because of The Guild. :D

Overall this seems like a sound badgermole. (D'you get the reference?) I don't see any presssing issues, except that i'd like more on general behavior. How do they behave in the wild? To they migrate? Do they hibernate? Do males fight eachother for territory, or mates? Expand on the general behavior a bit, and this looks great. :D

Oh, one other thing. That sense of smell... a bit powerful, don't you think? Hundreds of miles? I mean elephants can smell water for 12 miles away, but hundreds of miles...? I'd like this to be toned down.

Oh, read through it and found another minor thing. 'They can understand basic somewhat' To what extent? Do they just associate sounds with things? Like a dog ascoiates the sound of the word 'food' with... food. Or can they actually understand basic? If so, are they semi-sentient, not non-sentient?

Oh x3. 'Very fast'. Just how fast?

Oh, and, if they're pack and riding animals, how strong as they?

(I keep adding things as I see them. :p)

Great sub, looking forward to seeing the general behavior [member="Matsu Ike"]. :)

Emberlene's Daughter, The Jedi Generalist
[member="Mrrew"] edited and an Elephant is good but the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olfaction silver tip beats everything for sense of smell

For the basic essentially like a dog they will get with enough training basic commands but they wouldn't be able to say pilot a ship... Maybe slip a switch if you really worked at it but no Jun-la pilots.

Everything looks great. :D

Just one minor clarification so all that bases are covered-

Those claws. You say int he wild they use them to fight- what if one turned on a sentient? How strong and sharp are those claws? What armor rating (roughly) could they pierce? Clear that up and this gets my stamp. :)
