Intent: To give the Atrisian IIB an effective method of disposing of enemy targets in secret.
Development Thread: If needed.
Manufacturer: Junbei Hao National
Model: JBR-31 Shadow Light Rifle
Affiliation: Atrisian Empire
Modularity: Scope is interchangeable.
Production: Very minor
Material: Durasteel/plasteel
Description: The Shadow Light is a long range sniper rifle based off the Nightstinger used by the first Galactic Empire. Like the original, it uses rare and difficult to refine gases to create an invisible blaster beam. Also like the original, it has few shots, though advancements in technology have pushed the original limit of five shots to six shots. Ultimately the ammunition is too expensive for this weapon to be mass produced, costing nearly as much as the weapon itself.

The specially designed barrel disrupts the sound of the blaster bolt as it is fired, making it hard to differentiate exactly which direction it came from as it echoes. At distances over a kilometer the sound is lost among background noises. The standard scope has an effective range of two plus one quarter kilometers, and an infrared mode effective up to one kilometer. As with the original Nightstinger, a redirection crystal can be used to mimic a normal blaster being shot from a direction different than the original trajectory.

Because of the nature of the missions and that officially this weapon does not exist in the Atrisian armory, the weapon comes standard with a self-destruction mechanism. After a timer is set, any remaining gas in the cylinder is overheated within the weapon causing a spectacular explosion. At least one shot worth of gas left is required. The IIB often treats one Shadow Light and one canister a single unit, planning missions around this and accounting for the weapon being destroyed. Given the cost of the ammunition, the extra cost of replacing the rifle is considered acceptable.

Advantages:
  • Shot is invisible making tracking very difficult.
  • Has a very long range.
  • Sound is difficult to locate origin.
  • It comes equipped with a powerful multi-spectrum scope.
  • Self-destruct features makes identification of shooter impossible.
  • Redirection crystal can provide misdirection.
Disadvantages:
  • The Shadow Light is very heavy by blaster standards, making it tiring to carry for any length of time.
  • The extremely long design increases its range and performance, but makes the weapon difficult to transport due to the bulk.
  • Has a low shot count per gas cylinder.
  • Ammunition is extremely expensive, making additional gas cylinders past the first unlikely in any given mission.
