  • Sikanthor Canyon - Ionus was once home to the Zodhash people, a primitive species that had barely entered the medieval period when Ionus was discovered and ultimately settled by Akeldama. This canyon was the most sacred location on the world for the Zodhash, and as more and more 'aliens' claimed the world, the Zodhash people found themselves hiding within the Sikanthor Canyon. Now all that remains are the ghosts and skeletons of the Zodhash, and those few relics that remain that hadn't been claimed and taken off-world.

Sreph Badlands - Much of Ionus is dominated by either the Sreph Badlands or the Southern Wilds. It was here that the first precious minerals, ores, and gems were located and the badlands are dotted with ancient mining operations. Incomplete tunnels, massive complexes, and collapsed mines can be found without much difficulty. The problem is that due in part to how close many of these ancient mines are to the Southern Wilds, they can easily be overtaken by the sand that is blown in through the sandstorms. Those that seek to recover or claim the wealth of the Badlands must first survive the sand and the wind that tear through the gulches and valleys of the Sreph Badlands.

The Twin Sisters - The local name for an ancient rock formation, the twin sisters are two colossal rock spires that jut up deep within the Sreph Badlands, connected with a single rock bridge. Within one was built a small outpost tower, a minor fortification that watched over the much larger fortress built into the second spire. Both were focal points and were once the center of the ancient Zodhish species kingdom. While the towers still remain, their age has caused portions to begin to slowly crumble away. What few relics or secrets of the Zodhish species that remain are threatened by time. Perhaps there are those that would brave the crumbling structures for their own reasons to recover such relics.

The Graveyard - Ancient bones lay scattered and littered about, laying upon the sand while others jut up from the dunes as if they were ancient monuments. The bones are of countless species, pointing towards the simple fact that this was a massive land-based herd whose demise happened all at once. Likely their death can be linked to one of the many meteors strikes ages ago (whose evidence can still be found due to its shaping of the world). Though the world is dead, some intrepid individuals have attempted to reclaim some of these bones for various galactic institutes or private collectors. Some succeed, bringing back either pieces or fully intact fossils. Those that are unlucky merely add their own bones to the Graveyard, and oddly enough, the graveyard seems to keep growing day by day more than being diminished by these fossil hunters.

Alderhelm - A massive building project that ensured those Vampirika, while in a way banished from Akeldama, were still able to live in relative luxury and peace. Alderhelm is a sprawling citadel city that was built at the base of two mesas, with its valley carved out to create an artificial sea to be enjoyed. Much of the structure remains, and the hand of the Vampirika can still be seen today. Massive statues burst forth from the sides of the mesas or rise up from the very structures of the citadel. These massive statues are of the Vampirika Barons and Baronesses that reigned on the world and sent its wealth back to Akeldama. Of course, not all of the rulers of Ionus were needing of such statues, and for those more modest and humble, their busts can be found throughout the ancient citadel.

Alnor Citadel - While Alderhelm was built for luxury, the Alnor Citadel was built for war and protection. This structure housed the Nikto mercenary units that protected Ionus and the Vampirika Aristocracy. It also held the primary naval command that coordinated the fleet in orbit as well as oversaw the shipments of precious resources from the world to Akeldama. In its own time, it proved itself, again and again, pushing back multiple Zodhash assaults, and ultimately it was the commander of this citadel that gave the order to resolving to eliminate all Zodhash. This very commander would later be welcomed back to Akeldama for securing the resources of Ionus and dealing with the natives. This lead to the death of millions of the Zodhash and the enslavement of hundreds of thousands that were captured.

The Southern Wilds - A massive desert just to the south of the Sreph Badlands, its sparse flora and few rocky outcroppings (located closer to the badlands) mean that this area is for all intents and purposes lifeless. The biggest problem is that when the winds come, they sweep up massive sandstorms that blot out the sun, bringing darkness that can last for days until the storm finally dies out. These storms are also notorious for filling in those mines at the edge of the badlands and causing the death of those that do not know how to survive such situations or those that are foolish.

Bryhm's Sanctuary - With as many sandstorms that threaten and plague the world (save for in a few locations), this ancient cave system was set up as a sanctuary. Of course, when the Vampirika began their genocide of the Zodhash species, it was used as the last bastion and final stand for the Zodhash military. Deep within these caves, the remains of bodies can be found, as well as a few relics and artifacts of the Zodhash that were not claimed. With no life on the world though, it has been left untouched, and even the entrance is slowly being clogged by the shifting sands that blow in from the Southern Wilds.

Sreph Mountain - The only volcano on the world, and if there were life still on the planet they might consider themselves lucky that it lays dead. Nearly as tall as Everest, its upper slopes are capped in snow, while its lower foothills are dotted with various mines. It stands as the center of the Sreph Mountain range and offers protection to Alnor Citadel which sits nestled in the foothills.

Little is known of the ancient Zodhish Culture, and what little is known is not well understood. Like many species that managed to thrive in a harsh desert world, their culture was centered around water and a central 'Mother Goddess' water deity. Beyond that, there has been little in any form of further discovery of their culture due in part to much of their structures having been destroyed ages ago by the passage of time. They were, however, a subterranean species that was rather primitive, having just barely pulled themselves into the early medieval age (in regards to technology).

What another culture that flourished on Ionus in its height was brought by the various species that immigrated to the world, bringing their own culture and beliefs with them. Much of those beliefs were centered around the established Jawa and Nikto cultures with some variations due to their contact with the Vampirika species. For the most part, Ionus could easily be said to be uncultured, with only the Vampirika strictly adhering to their own culture, and what they brought with them further shaped and changed the culture of the Jawa and Nikto they brought along.

The culture that was thus created was this strange amalgamation of these cultures combined, with the Nikto's belief in Deities being subverted by specific Vampirika individuals that outlived many of their Nikto retainers on Ionus. Jawa's beliefs were further changed, as the Vampirika forced the Jawa's to worship their kind as the protectors (having quite literally stolen and 'protected' the Jawa's food supplies). Beyond this, any additional culture was centered around work and the hardships of such work, with some minor cults arising from time to time that worshiped some aspect or cobbled together the deity of toil and hardship.

Daily life, if you weren't a Nikto or a Vampirika was backbreaking work and the only luxury to be found was in one's food and drink. For the Vampirika though it was more luxurious, though if one was sent to Ionus it was still seen as a punishment among their kin (as they were more or less banished to a world constantly bathed in sunlight). The Nikto served as the personal bodyguards and retainers, ensuring the safety of their Vampirika lords and ladies as they slumbered during the day.

Life for the upper individuals was made the more bearable provided that they continued to keep the mineral wealth of the world and its few mineable moons flowing to Akeldama, the center of the Vampirika Slave Empire.

Alnor Citadel
mZLMysL.jpg

Historical Government: Planetary Barony
Affiliation: Independent

Wealth:

  • High
    • Even now the mineral wealth of the world still remains largely untapped, as large scale operations were never fully implemented. The world itself as well as a few of its neighboring moons hold vast swaths of untouched ore veins and mineral wealth. While much of the wealth of Akeldama came from trading slaves, the wealth that flowed into its coffers from Ionus was its second largest income.

Stability:
  • Medium
    • While on the surface everything appeared to be calm, beneath there was an underlying current that threatened to destabilize the world. The heavy handed ruling of the Vampirika caused much of the human population to resent them, even winning over a few of the Nikto soldiers as well. What kept the stability though was the very same heavy handed ruling of the Vampirika aristocracy. Thus the stability of the world fell into this odd balancing act, in which the aristocracy provided just enough freedoms mixed with harsh ruling to ensure that the scales never truly tipped; thus staving off any kind of revolt.

Freedom & Oppression:
  • Depending on the exact class you found yourself part of would ultimately dictate your own freedoms in the society on Ionus. For the Vampirika elite, their freedoms were exquisite, save for a few that were otherwise not permitted to leave the world, they wanted for nothing. Likewise the Nikto that immigrated to the world were treated much as the Samurai class in Feudal Japan was treated, and provided freedoms nearly identical to those enjoyed by the Vampirika. Thus we come to the Humans and Jawas. Freedom for these two were much more limited as they were placed in lower working castes. Oppression was thus high, as they were often forced to labor long hours to produce as much of the wealth of the world as they could. A few were provided higher freedoms than others, often due in part to them being named as personal advisers or councilors or the aristocratic class.

Current Military: None

  • Even during the height of Akeldama's power, Ionus had no military of its own. Rather it was defended by a small armada of cruisers and frigates. Unlike many other worlds that Akeldama held sway over, Ionus was permitted to act in a bit more of a semi-autonomous role, with the world's own Vampirika appointing the Planetary Baron that oversaw the world. Other than a small ground side garrison, much of the military power present on Ionus was that of those forces set to protect the world by Akeldama.

Historical Technology:
  • Galactic - Hyperdrive Capable (circa 3,952 BBY)

rlz0fq.gif

Ionus was always populated in some way, having been the homeworld of the Zodhash species, a since extinct humanoid race. Its early history is steeped in the lore of the Zodhash, and much of that history is either unknown, lost, or destroyed due in part to the Zodhash having an oral history rather than one that is written. For the most part, the early history saw multiple mass extinction events, as meteors tore into Ionus. While these strikes caused multiple mass extinction events, they also resulted in the wealth of the world that was discovered years later.

When it comes to the first few thousands of years, progress was slow, and even by the time that its neighboring world of Akeldama exerted its influence over the small world; the Zodhash had barely entered a medieval era. This is when the history of Ionus begins in a written sense, roughly five hundred years before the fall of Akeldama. When the Vampirika were still predatory in raiding neighboring systems, they came to Ionus and found the Zodhash. Having not made contact with any other species, the Zodhash saw and began to worship the Vampirika as dark gods from the void (at least at first they were worshiped).

As time went on, it became apparent that the Zodhash were becoming more difficult to contain and control, ultimately leading to the species' open revolt against the Vampirika. This open revolt though resulted in the systematic destruction of the Zodhash people, with millions perishing at the hands of the combined forces of the Vampirika and their Nikto mercenaries. Those few of the Zodhash that were captured, only a few hundred thousand, were sent off-world (many of them were sent to Akeldama, resulting in the extinction of the Zodhash when that world was destroyed).

In a bid to fully tap into the mineral wealth of Ionus, Humans and Jawas were forcibly relocated to the world and set to work. Though while not slaves, they still had little to no freedom, though uneasy stability existed. Ionus would serve as a literal purse world for Akeldama, with much of the mineral wealth that was claimed being sent back to Akeldama in exchange for that world providing additional military protection for the world.

By the time that Akeldama itself was destroyed, Ionus was moderately defended; however much of that fleet was recalled to Akeldama in a bid to hold to Keres and push back those that were destroying the Akeldama Slave Empire. Ionus thus became a fall back world, a place for remnants of the Vampirika to remain in hiding. With Akeldama destroyed, Ionus was left isolated and its technological advancement stagnated.

Even with the great conflicts that rushed across the galaxy, Ionus remained as it was, a moment in time locked in place. However, this moment in time began to unravel as more problems came to the surface. Slowly the genetic pool began to shrink, with fewer and fewer individuals able to provide new genetic material (many of those living on Ionus would see themselves having blood as pure as an Austrian duke's). It is estimated that by the time of the Empire only a few thousand individuals remained on Ionus.

Those few thousands of individuals though were trapped on the world, and with no working hyperdrive capable vessel, they were left to come to terms that their time was slowly running out. When the Gulag Plague finally found its way moving across the galaxy there were only a few hundred individuals living on Ionus, and had the plague not wiped them out first, their inbreeding would have (as those few hundred remainings were either already showing genetic breakdowns or otherwise were sterile).

Now all that remains and has remained for the last eight-hundred and fifty years is a lifeless rock drifting in the void. Its history has all but been forgotten, though as more and more push into Wild Space, perhaps a new history will be written.

Greetings! So long, very long, since I've looked at one of your planets >.> - Haha, I kid. Anywho, overall, you did a fantastic job on this submission in the first place. Just a few things to go over.

1.) Please note under Image Credit who made your Headers/dividers as you did before.

2.) Planet(s):
  • Susnade - First Orbit; Molten Rock
  • Taitera - Second Orbit; Type II Atmosphere - Used for Limited Farming
  • Atriotera - Fourth Orbit; Desolate Rock - Used for Mining
I'm guessing this is the third planet? I would note that here.

3.) Major Exports: Ores - What kind of ore? You don't have to link it unless it's rare - But you do have to state what it is. (Ex. Durasteel Ore)

That's all! Tag me when you're ready for me to take a second look.
