Description:

The IG-227 Mark II “Hellfire Droid” is a second generation of the “Hailfire Droid” used extensively in the Clone Wars by the CIS. The Hellfire droid is .5 meters taller than the original IG-227, carries more missiles and is better armored. The four legs of the vehicle are stationary and end in four wheels, covered by large half circle caps. The legs act as thick durasteel shells to protect the main body of the Hellfire while the wheels act as the propulsion for the vehicle. While the legs do not move, the joint connecting the feet to the legs can rotate in a seconds notice. Different feet can rotate at different times so that the droid can pull sharp turns.

Unlike the previous model, however, this droid has a lower speed and can only move at a maximum of 35 km/h due to heavier armament and armor. The most noticeable difference in armament is the two Mass-Driver Missile launchers on the top of the “head”. These missiles come in different varieties and all are “Smart Weapons” capable of tracking their targets. The most common of the missiles used are concussion, high explosive and proton. Each launcher has 24 bays that hold two missiles each and when the missiles run dry the launchers are easily replaced by detaching them from the swivel turrets and simply snapping new ones on. Other armaments come in the form of two repeating blaster cannons on the head (only capable of firing at an upward angle) for taking out infantry in high point and a chin-mounted repeating chaingun blaster for anti-infantry roles on the ground.

In the weakness sector, this droid is not in short supply. For starters, it is virtually powerless to defend itself from aerial attack, though it can fire at aircraft. Fast moving starfighters can hit the droid and be gone before a lock-on can be made. The droid is also a much larger target that the original droid, thanks to the broader and more open sections of metal. Small arms fire is ineffective but sustained small arms rocket strikes against the main body can damage the droid severely. Vehicle grade cannons and missiles can decimate the droid with only a few hits. Hitting the legs with such weapons takes longer to score critical damage, but once one leg is crippled the droid is rendered motionless.
