Higher Power

After a short conversation the night before over dinner and a quick tour of where the two boys would be sleeping, Ra went and turned for the night herself. Waking up the next morning before even the sun came up, she did not expect either of her two guests to wake up any time soon.

So after she woke up, Ra took her nexu out for exercise and had breakfast prepared for them. If the boys joined her, then more could be made. As it was, it was just for herself and the cat. Once she finished eating, she left the kitchen and went to the library. A message had been left with Vincent to send the boys for food and then the library when they woke up.

Not knowing if they would wake up at the same time or have different patterns, she sat in one of the chairs reading her reports for the day. The different informants sent her items regularly about the comings and goings of the galaxy. Some of it was actually really good information.

After her time out with the cat and before coming to the library, Ra had gotten cleaned up. Wearing her black pants and boots, she wore a loose blouse though. Having guests now, her short sabers were hidden up the sleeves of her shirt instead of in her room where they normally rested when she was home. Her hair was down and unbraided and hung down her back.

Eventually hearing one of the boys awake, she looked up with her gold eyes to see which one entered the library.

Breakfast was delicious, he only ate a small portion as he's never afforded to eat in such extravagance. Everyday breakfast for him was an energy bar, as was lunch, and that was sometimes dinner also. Although seemingly ancient and quite foreboding in appearance, the castle was surprisingly homely.

Lui trotted into the library, yawning ferociously with unnecessary volume. He was still in yesterday's clothes, he appeared to have slept in them, from the creases - even if he had been provided with sleeping attire. The boy looked around, taking in his surroundings.

The library was impressive, but not to him. A library wasn't Lui's scene, perhaps if the castle held a brewery he'd be more galvanized by that. He coughed, as if Ra hadn't already heard him enter. "Your butler said you want somet-" He interrupted his foul early morning mood "that you would like to speak to me?" He flashes his same old charming smile as usual while running his fingers through his slightly greasy hair.

Even if it had been a few years for her Ra remembered what it was like to be a late teenager and wanting the sleep. While these days, she followed a more normal schedule, there were times when she was tired. This wasn't one of them though and greeted Lui when he walked in with a cup of caf if he wanted it.

"To speak with yes. Vincent does his job well don't you think?"

If Lui could read people, he might notice there was a slightly lost look to Vincent. He had been a slave prior to Ra picking him up. She had given him his freedom, but he was already an old man by then and chose to stay with her. Such was the case with all her servants, most were aged or had been slaves for as long as they could remember. To give them freedom would have done more harm than good and she kept them as servants. None were slaves though.

"Please have a seat."

Motioning to the chair across the fire from her, she waited until Lui sat down. The look on her face wasn't unfriendly, but it was on a slightly serious note.

"Yesterday, I asked if you had displayed any special skill in anything and you avoided answering me really. I'm quite curious on an answer."

Lui sat down. "He's surely something.", he muttered, folding one leg over his other in a way that spread out his body mass. Truthfully, Lui had noticed something odd about the butler, he'd come across countless brown-nosed men of service in his years, but Vincent seemed somehow empty - devoid of soul and ambition for himself.

The question he had been dreading came. "I'm a pilot. Like I said. It might not be anything special to you, but it's all that I have." He had naught else to say. He knew that he was nothing but a scoundrel, a swindler, a thief (and a bloody good one at that), but to tell her such would probably have him removed from her home.

There was indeed more than that still to his character. Things that the boy himself didn't know. The woman could easily find out if she were just to focus on his presence, perhaps she could already tell. Unbeknownst to himself, Lui was capable of wielding the force just as Ra was.

Lui still refused to say more about himself and Ra nodded. As he answered though, he had further thoughts in his mind. With an ever so gentle mental caress, Ra picked up on those thoughts.

"You're more than a simple pilot, Lui."

She stood up and poured herself a cup of caf, offering one to him. If he said yes, she would bring the dark liquid over to him. If not, then she would return to her chair before speaking again.

When she did, there was a half smile on her face along with a bit of a twinkle in her eye. Nothing threatening.

"I said yesterday we are a bit alike. One of those is using the Force. Why do you think you make such a good thief or scoundrel?"

If he continued to deny that there was more to him, Ra felt she might get irritated and hoped he would see admit the truth before that happened.

Lui waved away the cup of caf, having already finished one at the breakfast table. His immediate reaction was quite aggressive, despite her nonthreatening demeanor "You've got nothing on me. I ain't never stolen from you or done you under. It's none of your buis-" he was half way through when she registered what she said first. "Using the force? What are you on about?"

@Ra'a'mah

Her own path when she was his age had not led her to stealing, but it could have. Ra had found legitimate forms of making money and then eventually found a home with her captain. He had been the person in her life to accept her and treat like a family. In a heartbeat he had been taken from her life, but she had continued on and kept up the work they had done together. In the end that business brought her to the Metal Lords and they used her as lead of their Merchant Fleet.

Now the boy in the chair across from her was at a cusp in his life. On the bridge between being a child and an adult. The choices he made now would effect where his life went. His knee jerk reaction was expected but they still drew a slightly dirty look from her since her voice wasn't angry or even judgmental. After a moment though the last part of what she said sunk in and he looked at her full of questions.

"I never said you stole anything from me or did I imply you did anything under the table around me. However, your thoughts betray you and you think you're a good thief. Tell, how do you think you're able to get away or trick people into thinking your innocent?"

His baby faced innocent look certainly helped, but that would be all there was.

Lui looked puzzled for a moment. "It's not my charming smile, quick tongue and dashing good looks?", he arrogantly joked besides his shock and somewhat disbelief. In times of confusion, doubt or even fear, Lui couldn't help from reverting back to his childish, cocky self.

"Well you tell me. Who isn't a krifing Jedi, or force user, or whatever?" He began to doubt the terms in which he'd refer to force users. "You. This Rell idiot. Me?" He didn't hesitate to playfully insult the man he arrived with. "What are the odds we all ended up in the same place? Is this some kind of set up?" His tone wasn't as aggressive as before, but still defensive.

He leant back and folded his arms... Thinking to himself, he'd wonder. 'This woman? She wouldn't tell me this without reason. Surely, if there was nothing for her to gain, she wouldn't be telling me this. What does she want? What can I get out of this?'

Ra lifted an eyebrow at his clear arrogance with his words, but let it slide. It must be something that just came with people his age. The ones that were right even when they were wrong. If he seriously thought that was all it took to keep his hide out of trouble, he had a surprise coming. If she was entirely honest, when she learned she could the Force before she found out about her own childhood, it was a surprise to her too.

He asked who weren't Force users and she almost rolled her eyes. In asking what the odds were that both the boys and she could use the Force and being planted together for her to find, she did find interesting. What the odds were, she didn't know, but it was something to be curious about. Lui mentioned something about it being a set up and she shook her head.

"How could I anticipate your arrival? As for who isn't one that can use the Force. The batman you see you around here, Vincent and none of my other servants can use it. They are just a small example to use."

She was a businesswoman and in a way, she felt he was too. A little of this for a little of that. What he could offer her, Ra didn't have a clue of, but she had quite a lot to offer him.
