Healing the Galaxy: Saleucami

Saleucami

It was a fact that the Draethos as a species lived very long lives that could span several centuries. With such a gift, however, came the crushing responsibility and actuality that you would live to see your friends die. This fate was one Hemlock Briar had been painfully aware of.

The traveling Jedi had just left Ylesia where he was staying to help his dying friend Bix, trying to help relieve his pain before passing on. This meant tending to his garden, making different soups and salvesand sharing from Hemlock’s large collection of rare flora from across the galaxy to help his many ailments. All of these were already things the Draethos Jedi did day to day, however this time it was personal. Bix and Hemlock had met nearly fifty years prior on a small farming planet made up of mostly refugees. Bix was a small man who stood only five and a half feet tall, but he was one of the most compassionate Humans Hemlock had met. They had both been assigned to do environmental impact reports for a large factory that was trying to be built in the area. They were the only two scientists who opposed the building, and with the data discovered between the two of them they found enough to scare away the investors and leave the farmers their lands. The two of them had exchanged correspondence ever since and were very close.

To thank Hemlock the best way he knew how before he died, Bix passed on very sensitive information to Hemlock. He told him that his grandson was helping a small Twi’Lek community build an irrigation system on Saleucami that could allow for farming outside of the small green patches the planet provided and would help grow the village’s food supply and potentially improve the planet as a whole.

Outside of the personal connection, this was an offer that any Jedi would not be able to pass up. If you mix it with the fact that the bubse tree, which was used as a medical aid by many people, grew on the planet and you had an offer Hemlock could not refuse. Shortly after he buried Bix’s body beneath his garden and informed his next of kin of his passing, Hemlock traded a freighter pilot a rare stone he had found on his adventures for a small trip down Mara’s Corridor. The pilot seemed to think he was pulling one over on the Draethos but in reality Hemlock had taken a personal vow of poverty. The Jedi only carried what he needed to survive and the rest was to be used to help the galaxy become a better place. If that meant trading a valuable stone to help some colonists then by all means he would.

After a short freighter ride..

Hemlock stood in the middle of the small but bustling oasis he had come to aide. These natural pockets of life that were created by asteroids and other large impacts through the millennia were a testimony to just how relentless nature was. These scatterings of craters were some of the only fertile ground left on the otherwise arid planet. In this case they were covered in thick trees, large plants, and green grass that stood tall against the rocky surface of the planet. There were small huts and barns that scattered the perimeter of the crater

The local Twi’Leks who inhabited the crater had built from the ground provided, using the pockets of geo-thermal energy to help power their small village. Ingeniously they had also raised the ground on the sides of the crater so that the water was kept to one area. Just a few short years after settling they had already designed an impressive irrigation system to funnel the excess water out of their lake. They were also actively trying to pump it into the ground outside the crater. Tthat’s when a man by the name of Rylon Verdo came in. He was the grandson of Bix Verdo and the next stop on Hemlock’s mission to heal the galaxy.

After relishing in the raw Force energy the planet exuded, Hemlock continued his pilgrimage. He headed straight toward the crystal clear lake. There was a small hazelnut dock sitting perfectly off of the lake’s edge, dipping right into the rippling water. The dock had a couple guards stationed near it clad in navy blue security gear, blasters adorning each of their hips.

“Excuse me,” A heavily accented voice begged, “I’m obviously not from around here, but I’m looking for someone you probably know…”

“Rylon Verdo.” Before his raspy voice could sound the last syllable, the guards immediately tensed up.

“Who are you?” They asked immediately.

Being an empath and having spent a lot of time around Twi’Lek and their headtails, Hemlock immediately picked up on their anxiety and hostility. It was very obvious that they hadn’t seen a Draethos before and were thrown off. Even if I wasn’t his purple skin or his reptilian like face, his large bantha-leather brown backpack full of aromatic herbs and plants would be reason enough to be suspicious. However, he still found it unsettling that people were so quick to judge based solely on appearance in a galaxy so peppered with different species.

A quick breath in and he was ready to explain himself, tucking away any hostility his instincts might as kicked in, “My name is Hemlock Briar, I am a Jedi Padawan in search of Rylon Verdo.” The alien took another loud breath in, “I was colleagues with his grandfather Bix.”

The guard was about to speak when sirens went off.

“Damn Thaelos.”

In the distance you could hear whooping and taste the dust around the crater rising. There was something big coming this way, Hemlock could feel tremors of the Force crawling on his skin. Something was about to happen and danger was within proximity.

“Come this way! Rylon was meeting with another Jedi on a boat in the lake, we can intercept him on his way back to deal with these Thaelos!”

Quickly the guards took off and Hemlock followed closely behind.

It had been a good day for Leetan Aforni. He'd landed on Saleucami several days before aboard a hired shuttle, and had immediately felt welcome among the thick forests and jungles. After paying for his journey, he'd taken his rifle and his survival gear and headed out, seeking rare beasts against which to test his mettle. Unfortunately, all he'd managed to locate were some herds of eopie, and not any of the powerful and fearsome reeks that also lived on this world. A nest of nuna eggs had been somewhat of a solace, but it still had been frusturating to arrive in the Twi'lek settlement carrying nothing else but a couple of eopie hides and slabs of meat.

The trading with the Twi'leks had gone well; nuna eggs were prized in the galaxy, even here on Saleucami, and the meat and hides were welcome as well. The Twi'lek merchant was just confirming the purchase price when suddenly the feeling of something large headed towards him rattled Leetan's antennae. The whooping reached his ears as well, and he turned to see the large cloud of dust headed for the settlement.

"What the heck is that?" he asked the Twi'lek in his heavily accented Basic. The Twi'lek looked frightened.

"Thaelos," he replied, "Carnivorous primates. Very dangerous." A smile crept across Leetan's Rodian face. Carnivorous primates huh?

"This is going to be fun," he declared, slinging his sporting rifle off his back and heading for the could of dust.

Where was she now, Saleuami of all places, though she did not hate the place the young spell caster would literally prefer to be anywhere else that here, even Tatooine seemed like a more welcoming environment. Unfortunately the captain she was traveling with could only take her as far as this planet before having to drop off supplies and head back to there they first met, meaning for the time being Chikako was stuck on world until another traveler came by.

She walked around the markets place, lost and looking for any work someone might give her, noting the presance of a Rodian hunter, perhaps he could give her a ride off world, but she would need to offer something in return, hopefully he had use for someone who could produce fire on a whim. "Ummm excuse m....", she did not get the chance to finish her sentence as a siren sounded around the base, panic setting in slightly, 'what is that, are we under attack'.

She got her answer at the words of the Twi'lek, animals, maybe she could help, but in such large number such a feet seemed impossible, 'do I have to fight'? She approached the Rodian but also felt another force user nearby, but could not seem them just yet, 'I can help mister Rodian, I can use my fire 'magic' and combustion to confuse and lure them in certain direction for you to, put down".

Soon after taking off, the sirens started wailing louder, it sounded like the entire town had been alerted to the looming threat. The Twi’Lek security guards started scurrying around the far side of the lake. It was about three fourths of a mile across in diameter so it was going to take a little while to get there. Sounds of panic were enveloping the village, you could hear small children yelling for their parents and the opposite, it was total pandemonium. There were no explosions or loud bangs yet, but the civilians seemed concerned about the oncoming threat.

Hemlock found himself cut off from the guards after not much time following them. He was cut off by small children trying to scurry home. The empath quickly found himself shadowed by anxiety with all of the screams the Force was letting out. Briar was more in tune with emotions, picking up on not only distress but also fear from lying and other false emotions. This was something different and he knew he had to find a way to help however possible. So he decided to let the Force take over. Quickly his mind traveled east a little ways, there were disruptions in the Force he could physically find.

He started walking toward Leetan and Chikako when there was a loud bang at the crest of the crater. Outside of his line of sight he heard loud growls and deep grunts. There were a few curses thrown out by the unsuspecting people below, but before anyone could react, the first beast jumped over the side. After this moment it was all out chaos…

The Draethos double timed it toward the marketplace, following the footsteps the Force put before him.

“They’re here!” One man yelled as three more Thaelos jumped down.

Leetan looked back at the girl behind him and shrugged.

"Do whatever you want, kid," he replied. Just then, the first Thaelos hopped the fence. It roared, but was abruptly cut off when a blaster bolt lanced between its eyes. Leetan held his still-smoking rifle steady as three more beasts joined the fallen body of the first.

"Oh, we're in it now," he stated, putting another round through another beastly skull.

She was about to reply to the Rodian before one of the creatures leaped over the wall, sending a small pang of fear down her spin, though aid fear quickly vanished as the breast was put down with a well placed bolt in the head from the Rodian, the most likely expert hunter not even being phased by the attack.

She might have felt sorry for the beast, but this attack was unprovoked, these Twi'leks were just trying to survive, no she had to fight, if not for these people to save herself from a grizzly end. She unsheathed her Enchani virbo sword, using her 'magic' to heat up the blade to scorching temperature, the edge shimmering slightly from the rising heat.

The Rodian downed anther few of the beast, but now they were coming in much larger numbers, the fore form the guards and defender being to little to stem the flow. Chikako charged forwards, gathering a fore ball in her left hand, flinging it at the breach in the wall where the majority of the beast were coming through, are large explosion like combustion scattering the beats slightly and forcing them to take the more difficult route.

"I did not wish to cause you harm, but you leave me no choice... prepare to meet your end beasts".

It wasn’t long before blaster fire erupted. The Twi’Lek had all seemed to arm themselves well, but many of the families didn’t have adequate weapons and instead responded by fleeing. There were whole groups of the beasts jumping down at once. They were angered beyond relief, something no one in the village had encountered before it seemed. Hemlock began to question any ripples in the Force he felt. The Draethos questioned whether this event was happenstance or if someone had riled the animals up so they would be more hostile. Some people might not have wanted the Twi’Leks to install their irrigation system and encouraged the Thaelos to attack.

No matter what the reason was, this wasn’t a safe environment for him to ponder such questions in length. Hemlock made haste toward his current goal. Blaster bolts whizzed by the Jedi padawan as he fled. He had yet to draw his lightsaber, seeing as no one had directly threatened him yet. Though it likely wouldn’t be long until one of the beasts cornered him as prey. If that became the case he would use the Force to defend himself, but would retreat to cover at the soonest time possible.

After making a little more headway into the market, he stumbled over a small pile of boxes someone knocked over in the chaos. Before he had a chance to get himself fully composed again he heard the whoosh of a blade and barely missed a stray blaster bolt from an eager Rodian. Afterward he took some cover behind a stall and tapped into the Force to evaluate the situation further. A wave of Force energy crashed over him, there was a big beast headed his way. The Draethos looked up to see an alpha predator approaching the marketplace, standing nearly one and a half times the size of the other creatures wreaking havoc.

“May the Force provide for me.” Hemlock now started to grip the metal hilt of his lightsaber.

It seemed every second longer he spent listening to the Force the louder it’s screams became. Someone needed to help subside the ripples.

Raw adrenaline pumped through Leetan's veins as he engaged the Thaelos. He had never been one for frontline combat, preferring the thrill of stalking his prey and the satisfaction of earning the perfect shot. But, being able to adapt and react was key for a hunter, and now was the time to do so. With quick, precise shots the Rodian took down Thaelos after Thaelos. The HBt-4, like many sporting rifles, was not a powerful weapon, but it had range and accuracy, and was fully capable of piercing the hide of the carnivorous primates.

Even so, Leetan began to feel the pressure as more and more beasts swarmed the wall. This was going very bad very fast, and soon Leetan was forced to switch from the rifle to his DT-12 heavy blaster pistol, filling the attacking creatures with bursts of red laser. Suddenly there was a roar, and Leetan looked to see the mother of all Thaelos approaching he and the other defenders. The Rodian said nothing, felt nothing, just took aim and let rip.

The beast kept coming spurred on by anger, what had cussed them to be so aggressive, she did not know, perhaps the young witch would be able to find out upon befriending one of the animals, but the panic and constant battling made it ni impossible. With the constant blaster fire, and speed at which the beast moved at Chikako could not even get close to one, let alone try to calm it down.

In addition to that she was too busy keeping herself out of harms way and warding of the beast with fire to contemplate it as a possible plan. Then came the deafening roar, time seemed to slow down for her as the largest of the beast, no doubt the queen came lumbering over the walls, 'maybe if would be possible to connect wit....'. What ever plan she had was thrown out the window as the Rodian hunter let lose with his blaster, doing damage no doubt but also pissing off the giant.

Her distraction came at a cost though as one of the beast charged her, to close for a fire spell that would also not hurt her. Chikako closed her eyes and side stepped the beast, driving her Enchani blade into its back, the sizzling sound of heated metal meeting flesh, it was not a pretty sight hence the whole eye closing thing, but she had no choice. "........why". Looking around [member="Leetan Aforni"] came into view, hiding behind a set of boxes, why was he not fighting, or was the creature something else.

For a Jedi, life was about not succumbing to the chaos erupting around you in any situation. It was hard at times when so many things were happening at once, but Hemlock’s main goal here was to complete his mission with as few casualties as possible. He needed to think of a plan to get these beasts to quit pestering them. He had a large sample of different plants he had brought with him, but they were back in the room he was staying in. If he could get there, he would have access to plants that would likely knock the beasts out on contact. How would he be able to get close enough to them for this to work?

“Of course!” The Draethos exclaimed under his breath, realizing a potential solution.

He looked around his surroundings again, realizing there were a couple of the primates closing in on him. There were still a couple of people in the marketplace holding their own, among them were the Rodian and the pale girl with the sword. Perhaps the Force, once again, had given Hemlock a trial by fire. Hemlock used the Force to muster a strong blast to knock some of the beasts back. He needed to get some distance between himself and them before he could get a hold of the other two.

//You two, I have a way we might be able to get out of here alive.// He used the Draethos natural telepathy to make the first communication with them. He grabbed the hilt of his saber and rolled behind the cover of a toppled stall. He lifted his head up just enough to see where the two were and how many beasts were in the area.

//I have something back in my room that will hopefully knock all of these beasts out if we can just get it to the irrigation system and flood it through the sprinklers.//

Ok, now Leetan had officially seen it all. As he was engaging a pack of Thaelos, hoping today wasn't going to be the death of him, the beasts suddenly flew backwards, as if an invisible hand had slapped them away. Then, a voice was in his head, telling him to put something in the sprinkler system. Leetan didn't remember eating anything weird lately, at least, not that he could remember. He realized that the weird looking person who was now peeking over a stall behind him must be a Force-user.

"The sprinkler system?" he called, shooting a Thaelos in the leg and then through the skull, "What could you possibly put in the sprinkler system that could get us out of this mess?" Suddenly a fresh wave of Thaelos hopped the wall, and Leetan decided that now was a very bad time to be picky.

"Never mind!" he yelled, "Do it! I'll cover you!"

Another beast charged her, but not before a invisible wall pushed them to the side, was that wind magic of some sort? Chikako could feel that the creature behind the boxes had talent in the arts, but she had not seen it use like this, or had she. Regardless of the case she was safe to case another fire ball, increasing its intensity, launching it towards the group of primates, a large wall of fire being produced, halting the creatures attack for the time being.

Then came the voices in her head, wise instructing and with a sense or purpose, but how, it seemed that she had much to learn in the art of magic. Though not knowing how to talk in the minds she though about his plan anyway, 'I think I understand you plan, neutralization via some sort of substance, that is something I can get behind'. Content with the current wall of fire and the Rodians cover fire Chikako made haste towards [member="Hemlock Briar"], "Lead the way mister........ I do not know who or what you are, how silly of me'.

Shortly after getting a response from the trigger happy Rodian, a large fireball erupted. Things like that would only cause more panic, people were scared enough, they didn’t need to see fires erupting also. Hemlock had to get to his quarters quickly. The sample of a new plant species he had collected on Felucia seemed to have almost instant reactions when applied directly to the skin, to the point Hemlock wore gloves while he was studying the samples. It would take the entirety of his sample to get all of the beasts, but it was worth if it saved lives.

Shortly after the explosive pyrotechnics show, the younger woman responded as well. She sounded eager to help the people of the colony, and her defensive abilities would come in handy when warding the beasts off. Hemlock quickly stood, revealing his taupe colored robes, flowing over his aster purple skin. He threw his hood up revealing his predatory claws for just a moment as he did so. He turned around to take a moment to get his bearings again, all of the chaos crated ripples in the Force that threw off his internal compass. There were many places he felt he should be at once, but he knew only one of them would lead to a peaceful ending to this.

//Please follow me.// He swept his robes behind him as he darted toward the back end of the market. His room was places among a large group of small houses, lean tos built out of durasteel meant to keep people for a few nights, not to stop an invasion of aggressive primates. He would have to make do, however, as all Jedi did. //I beg you to refrain from killing these beasts. I want to put an end to this attack, but killing them will only make things worse.//

Just as he transmit that thought to their heads, a giant Thaelo beast jumped over the wall and stared Hemlock directly in the face. Briar extended one of his clawed hands to signal to them not to shoot. He stared back into the beast's face, his yellow eyes meeting those of the primate. He focused his thoughts on the Force and what was surrounding him. Briar blocked out the loud screams and he damning gunshots behind him and attempted to connect directly to the beast’s lifeforce.

He sent waves of positive energy toward his aggressor, the Force pumping them through the beast’s head. It started to growl extensively, fighting the manipulation with all of its power. Slowly, however, the beast started to back down. It realized its fight was not with the Jedi nor his allies. //They are simple beasts who are protecting their territory. We can send them home with a defeat but we can’t punish nature for doing its job.//

After the turbulence ended, the Draethos turned around to the two behind him. “I apologize for the lack of communication, my Basic is very hard to understand for many.” The thick accent was very apparent. “My name is Hemlock Briar, I am a Jedi who came to this planet to help these people with their irrigation system, this is how I know my plan can work.” He took a slight bow.

sorry for being so late i completely forgot i didn't post here lol
Leetan followed the young woman and the strange alien, firing shots behind him as he did so. He had absolutely no problem with leaving the engagement zone; he was a hunter, not a Force-darned mercenary. Suddenly, the voice was in his head again, telling him not to shoot.

"Are you crazy?!" he yelled, firing again, "They're going to kill us and you don't want me to kill them first?" At that exact moment, a Thaelos hurdled a wall and landed in front of them. Leetan raised his blaster to shoot, but before he could the alien got in his way. Leetan was about to yell for him to get the heck out of the way, when suddenly he noticed the beast was not attacking. Rather, it was beginning to back down.

"What the..." Leetan said, "K***ing unbelievable." He listened to the man's words with a more keen interest, having now seen his abilities.

"I'm Leetan Aforni," he introduced himself, "I came here to hunt. Whatever your plan is, we better do it fast if you want to keep these things alive." Saying the last words felt very wrong to the Rodian, but he had enough pelts and meat now to keep him in business for a while; no harm could come from helping this strange man.

Chikako gave a nod to the robed individual as he becoked them to follow, his claw sending a slight shiver up her spin, those devices were definitely not for show. Perhaps his species where just and primal as the ones attacking the station. "I will refrain for hurting them any more but I will not hesitate to defend myself if need be". The group quickened Thiet pace towards the Jedis abode, her purple dress flowing with the induced wind.

A small spike in the force alerted the Enchani to the precancerous and danger of another primate, her hand twiching, ready to ward it away with fire magic, but stoped then the Jedi raised thier hand in a 'halting' fashion. She instantly knew what he was trying to do, communicating with the beast, trying to understand its reasaon for attaching. As their eyes meet chikako reached out as well, feelings king along with one another, both parties calming down and avoiding any further confrontation, as the beast backed off and went its way. 'I can understand that, but how did you act so calm on that situation?'. She knew the Jedi could read her though, slowing the Rodian hunter to speak his mind awaiting her own chance.

She gave both men a small bow, "My name is chikako, I am a follower of the magic arts, but for the most part am a wanderer with not real goal other then getting to dathomer, but I am willing to do what I can to help these people and prevent an attack like this happening again". The sounds of the primate echoed in the distance, the danger getting ever closer, "though I suggest we hurry Mr Jedi and carry out what it was that you had planned".
