PRODUCTION INFORMATION

  • Manufacturer: Houk & Herglic
  • Model: H&H ARC Cannon
  • Affiliation: Closed-Market
  • Modularity: No
  • Production: Minor
  • Material: Blaster Components
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: ARC Caster
  • Size: Handheld
  • Length: 1,194mm
  • Weight: 20.25kg
  • Ammunition Type: Power cell
  • Ammunition Capacity: Five minutes of continuous burn
  • Effective Range: 20 meters
  • Rate of Fire: ARC Beam

Strengths:
  • Destructive - the energy beam is capable of incinerating people, frying droids, and even taking down vehicles.
  • Chain Reaction - the energy beam arcs from one person to another, like lightning, and is capable of arcing between a maximum of five people.
  • Power Generator - the operator can wear a power generator backpack to increase the continuous burn to up thirty minutes, but the backpack itself is susceptible to enemy fire. If hit, there's a good probability that it will explode.
Weaknesses:
  • Heavy - for humanoids, this weapon is extremely heavy and difficult to handle. Aiming accurately is an issue, as is the stamina required from the operator.
  • Charge Up - the energy beam takes three seconds to charge up before it can be released. The longer one charges the cannon, the more powerful the resulting beam will be, with two limitations. It can only be charged for five seconds and the maximum charge can only be held for another five seconds after that.
  • Power Cell - the massive power cells used to power the weapon are quite bulky. It would be rare to see a humanoid operator carry more than two cells without some form of assistance.
  • Range - the range is short compared to many blaster and slug based weaponry, therefore the uses of this weapon can be quite limited.
  • Friendly Fire - it is impossible to control who the arc arcs to, except that the arc will not arc backward. Thus, the operator has to be careful not to hit a friendly.
  • Illegal - this weapon has been classified as inhumane by numerous galactic governments and is highly illegal. Civilians or licensed bounty hunters caught with it will be subject to criminal prosecution. Militaries caught using it will be decried as condoning use of a wicked weapon.

DESCRIPTION

The ARC cannon, nicknamed "The Fireworm" due to the red energy beam it emits, is essentially just a scaled up version of the ARC caster. Houk & Herglic primarily sell the weapon to unscrupulous organizations due to the bad reputation attached to the weapon. It has been compared to a disruptor, because beams kept on organics for long enough tend to cause the organics to explode instead of simply frying them.

The ARC cannon's tremendous power allows it to slag most forms of armor. Beskar and phrik will prove a challenge, but if the beam is kept on such armor for long enough it could potentially heat the material up enough that anyone inside just gets cooked.

Please link the manufacturer.

Also, everything related to weight in this submission needs to accurately reflect (If being used as a weakness) a hindering weight. 7.25kg is not heavy. Currently the strengths vastly outweigh the weaknesses. This will need correcting in some fashion.

Suggestions:
  • Make this a stationary weapon that requires a tripod or bipod to utilize.
  • Remove the ability to recharge the weapon effectively in the middle of a battle.
  • Drastically lower the length of continuous fire.
  • Require a charge-up/spin-up period to a relevant degree before firing.
Those are my suggestions. But I need something tangible to balance a ten minute long continuous multi-target incinerator with the ability to run for an hour.
