Garden Party

view-of-hotel-garden.jpg

Benedali was excited. She loved to host parties, particularly ones that let her show off the Serrus estates. Dressed in a simple yet elegant summer dress, the Duchess walked around the garden, ensuring everything was in place. The workers had done a wonderful job, and she couldn't wait for people to begin arriving.

Stopping to pick a flower, Benedali took a delicate sniff before comming her brother. "Arick, how are the preparations going on your end?"

Arick Serrus

The Duchess' Captain
Arick looked up, he had been deep in thought, drawing out formations and entrances in his head. "There going beautifully, guards positioned at every door, pikemen at every gate, and watchmen here and here." He motioned towards the clipboard lying at his feet. "As long as none of your 'Guests' come in with a tank, well be fine." he said with only the slightest hint of humor.

"I see everything is going well on your end." he said, suddenly standing. "Sorry Duchess, the troops are in need of some direction..." Shaking his head, and with a flash of scarlet wings he was gone, already at one of the many entrances, muttering something to a few guards that had missed the orders the last five hundred times Arick had told them.

The invitation was odd- a low level mercenary operating on Alderaan. Perhaps they knew. Perhaps they didn't. He blinked as he walked forwards, mainly because- Lancer wasn't exactly the prettiest or most formal person. He had manners, working with various clientele and all- but never really did much on the 'diplomatic' side. He wasn't sure how to dress- a black suit supposedly would do. In fact, Lancer considered himself rather unremarkable in person in terms of looks. Cropped short hair and stubble from not shaving, he wasn't exactly wholly prepared for a fancy garden party.

But, an invitation- was an invitation.

Just how much they knew, would be an interesting thing to find out.

The Duchess smiled at her brother's comment. While her brother's overprotectiveness sometimes grated on her nerves, she also found it to be very sweet -- not that she would be caught dead admitting that. Taking one more look around the gardens, Benedali headed into the main lobby, where she and some of her guards awaited the guests.

She had to admit, though, the first guest wasn't what she expected. He looked like he would be more at home in a war zone than in the black suit he currently wore. Nonetheless, Benedali donned the "gracious hostess" act and walked up to greet him. "Hello," she said, giving him a warm, dazzling smile. "Welcome to the House Serrus estates. May I inquire as to what your preferred name is?" After the introductions, she would probably comm her brother and let him know the first guest had arrived -- if he didn't already. Afterwards, depending on what happened, she would either greet the next guest or give this man a guided tour of the gardens -- two things she enjoyed doing.

"Pleasure to be here. You may call me Lancer."

Lancer adjusted his suit, before looking and sizing up [member="Benedali Serrus"]. Again, she might have known- or she might not have. Lancer took steps further inward, and glanced around the garden. Beauty and a vast understanding of art were beyond his comprehension- but you have to start somewhere. He could appreciate it, the same way any other person would. He just had little idea of all the nuances that went with it.

"The estate looks lovely."

Benedali smiled again at the man. "It's a pleasure to have you here, Lancer. You may call me Benedali or, if you're a stickler for titles, Duchess." She walked alongside Lancer, escorting him to the garden outside. The Duchess beamed at him in genuine gratitude when he complimented the estate. "Thank you, very much. If you'll excuse me for a moment..."

She gestured for one of the servants to come over to them. "Ellie, would you please be so kind as to give Mr. Lancer a quick tour of the gardens?" Benedali threw a quick wink at him. "I need to let my Captain know that the first guest has arrived so he doesn't try to detain you. I'll be back in a moment." With a little toss of her hair, she walked back inside and stood in a secluded part of the hallway.

Holding up her comm, she said, "Brother, one of our guests have arrived. So don't maul him, alright? Ellie is giving him a tour of the gardens." Benedali paused for a moment, before adding, "Do you think any of our other friends will be able to make it? I'd love to be able to see them."

By "friends", of course, Benedali meant the other freedom fighters for Alderaan. The garden party also served as a way for the group to pick out anyone who would be an asset, and people to keep clear of.

Orron Thrask

More Man than Machine
After a long trip and a final arrival to the place where the Alderaan garden party was taking place Orron sighed with a reluctant air as he got out of the speeder and looked around the place. A very nice rich looking estate which cued Orron into the fact that these people were definatly royalty. He'd have ben lying to himself if he didn't admit he was envious of the way the richer people lived in the galaxy. How much easier it was to some and luxurious to others. But he didn't dwell much on it as he was here for his own reasons.

Orron had been chosen among some of the Jedi padawans to extend the greetings and good wishes of the Jedi order to the duchess of Alderaan at this particular party. Obviously confused by this choice Orron had asked the masters why him, to which they answered it would "be good for him". That was as far as they went in terms of an explination. The only thing Orron gathered from that was they were trying to get him out of the Jedi temple and actually try to communicate with people again.

Thinking back on it Orron wasn't sure if he appreciated the gesture or not. At the same time he wondered if anyone else had been asked for this little chore. For the party itself he wore his Jedi robes while keeping the hood up; He worrying his sight might disturb some of the guests and possibly the host herself.

Walking to the entrance he presented himself and the invitation which had been sent to the Jedi order, indicating his position and rank. After entering into the garden itself Orron looked around, taking note of the decorations and amount of people present. He felt a nervous twitch in his guts as he swallowed what fear he had before walking fully into the parade of people.

He knew he stuck out the most, being so tall and wearing a hood. He worried if some would think him an assassin while hoping and praying that his robes would indicate his Jedi status. He kept his head down most of the time, only looking up to try and spot the duchess herself or any other important guests of honor. When he did he'd only seen her from behind, noting her dress and all.

Calmly he approched and asked "Lady [member="Benedali Serrus"]?" Once this was confirmed he bowed to her while saying "I bring best whishes from the Jedi Order, who wish to extend thier greetings to you."

While he tried to stay pleasent when speaking a hint of annoyance was in his voice. Not towards the duchess herself but more of having to be here for this 'assignment'. When he looked the duchess in the face he recoiled a little at the sight. She was beautiful in his eyes, even the cybernatic one, and cleared his thraot when he realized he may have seemed a little awkward.

(Alright I have deleted this twice I'm saving this in chunks)

Somehow the young Togorians, Tiger and Lili, had made their way to the noble planet Alderaan by stowing away on a mercantile ship carrying food. It was a long flight, but they survived off what the ship-owner, gracious of their presence, had given them an abundance of food. After having a filling meal of meat and other stuff, the kittens fought playfully and then went to bed. They awoke to the ravings of a rather annoyed merchant arguing with Alderaanian Customs and the spaceport. Tiger decided that it was most considerate not to bother their host while he was having a conversation, they did not want to interrupt him. They soon heard a loud yell and turned, only to see their host chasing them. It was at this point the pair decided it was best to run away, when they were sure they were safe, they stopped in an upperclass district. The twins turned their noses up and sniffed the lovely aroma of a feast in the air, then stared at each other. They pair both bolted up the roofs of Alderaan's buildings, running as fast as they could towards the smell. When they neared their destination, they saw a party going on with plenty of activities, so they leapt onto the wall. Tiger landed first, successfully keeping his firm grip on the slippery surface of the wall. Lili wasn't so lucky, she slipped off and fell in front of this long-haired woman. Lili ran under the woman's dress after a moment to avoid being noticed by anyone. Tiger lowered his head with certain grace, for he knew that no foe could see through this movement of tactile genius.

Benedali had barely finished when one of the servants came and told her she was needed in the garden -- apparently one of the decorations had fallen and the servants needed help fixing it. Sighing, the Duchess followed the servant, making a mental note to try and make sure Lancer was doing well, and then check on any other guests that might have shown up.

So, there she was, giving orders to the workers when a shadow fell across her. At the same time, Benedali heard someone speak her name. Turning, she saw one of the largest beings she'd ever seen -- though that really wasn't saying much. "Hmm? Oh, you're from the Order?"

The Duchess had already taken note of the Jedi's cybernetics, merely filing them away in her mind. The invite was an open one, after all; it was natural to expect all sorts of beings.

"I didn't even know Jedi were allowed to have fun," she said in a teasing manner. She smiled at his awkwardness, very much at odds with his massive build. "Nonetheless, I hope you enjoy yourself here, Jedi....?" Benedali trailed off, hoping to prompt him into giving a name.

Out of nowhere, a creature ran under her skirts. Bemused, the Duchess took a step back while looking down... and saw the most adorable little creature. "Why, hello, there," she said, scooping it up into her arms. "Aren't you simply gorgeous?"

Orron Thrask

"Orron Thrask, ma'am. Or, uh, miss. Whichever you prefer." he said, stumbling over his words. "And the Jedi aren't exactly as stuck up as you and others may think. But at the same time we're not so lax either. We try to keep a vigilant eye wherever possible."

When spaking a little more to her Orron was a bit more calm around the duchess, though he still felt a little awkward for stumblign with his words and the response he gave to her. He could tell some of his face was exposed even with the hood on but was a little releaved see the duchess wasn't too put off by it. His mind wandered, however, when he wondered how much she was willing to accept of his cyber body.

Realizing he was thinking about such inappropriate things, and because he was a jedi and she a duchess, Orron shook his head a little to get the thoughts out of his head. After that he cleared his throat again while listening to whatever [member="Benedali Serrus"] had to say.

Maka walked out into the garden, his cape whirling around him, grinning at the Duchess and her metallic visitor. He interjected, "If only he weren't with the Republic, I should think he'd make an excellent fighter for you."

He nodded politely at the cyborg, and tried not to laugh. At the lady's request, he had laid his bow away in favor of a knife that was more decorative than functional. But that was okay. Maka didn't mind making her happy. He held out his hand to the man to shake, and introduced himself, "I'm Maka Sumoto, White Archer and vassal or something-or-other to House Serrus. I'd demonstrate the reason why, but our lovely Duchess has requested that I go unarmed."

Finally noticing that he was in the garden, Maka gazed around in wonder. He'd never seen such a display of plants, before...

The Duchess looked up from cuddling the adorable creature and gave Orrus another smile. "Please, call me Benedali. Titles are only for stuffy parties." She paused, winking at the cyborg. "Oh, I wasn't saying Jedi were stuck up, I just thought there wasn't enough time in your schedule, what with fighting the Sith and saving the galaxy."

Benedali rolled her eyes at Maka. "As if I don't have enough men fighting in my name already?" She gestured dismissively at the archer's blade. "And even if that knife is purely for looks, you know Arick will have a fit. He's still sore over your first entrance, whether he admits it or not." She also couldn't help but smirk at the awe on Maka's face -- it meant she had done well.

Nodding to her response Orron responded "As you wish, duch-uh, I mean Benedali."

After that he'd turned in remark to Meka's response about him fighting for the duchess. He was about to speak before she'd already spoken, pointing out how she didn't want more people fighting for her over a previous incedent. Seeing his reaction, however, made him feel that he was litle more concerned with other things.

He did speak up, however, and stated "The Jedi don't act as personal warriors for others. We're peace keepers and defenders. Nothing more. Even if we get caught up in wars with the Sith, we know where our true goals lie. Protecting innocent lives." He truned back to say something to Bendali before seeing the little cat creature in her arms. He huffed a smirk before given a small comment of "Cute..." He gulped when he thought Benedali had meant that to her, to which he quickly said "I, uh, meant the kitten. But th-that's not to say I don't think...I mean..."

He stopped and lowered his head, knowing he'd made a bit of a fool of himself.

Lili was surprised when the woman picked her up, she was even scared a little and tried fighting back, but she wasn't strong enough to resist. But then the woman started rubbing her on the stomach and she fell into a trance like state of pure bliss, she stopped restisting and began to purr in the woman's hands.

Tiger witnessed his sister being attacked by the brutally savage human woman and he wanted to protect his sister from this woman and this monstrous half-man half-machine. So Tiger jumped on the rather nerdy looking man and landed on his head, trying to control him to attack the others. In reality he was sitting on the man's head and batting the air.

Benedali laughed lightly at Orrus, while at the same time resuming the belly rub she was giving to the kitten in her arms. She found the Jedi's awkwardness endearing. "Yes, it is a cute little thing, isn't it?" Throwing a wink at Orrus this time, she added in a slightly flirtatious tone, "And don't worry, I know I'm cute, too."

The Duchess gave a louder laugh when the kitten's twin landed on Maka's head, batting furiously at the air. "Oh, Maka!" Benedali exclaimed. "It appears you have a new friend."

When the cat jumped on his head, Maka laughed, and then grimaced as the cute little furry creature became entangled in his hair. Pulling the little fuzzball off his head, he tickled its stomach and smiled at it. Then he looked back up at the cyborg, and grinned, interrupting again, "Yes, she certainly does. You don't need to stroke her ego, Orrus. She's not the cat."

He glanced sidelong at Benedali, who was laughing her ass off at the sight of the dancing cat. Holding up the cat, he grinned even wider, and replied, "I'm not sure if he's trying to hug me or kill me. Just like you or your brother."

Orron gave a small, awkward chukle at Benedali's remark before looking to Meka when he gave his. He gave an annoyed glance only to see the twin cat suddenly jump on his head. He looked a bit suprised at first before seeing as it was struggling on his head. While the others laughed, thinking it was hugging him or dancing on his head, Orron could sense anger and fear in it.

He walked up to Meak while saying "I can sense it. He's afraid for his sister." he looked back to the one in Bendali's hand as indication before looking back to the one Meka had. "Let me see." he said, reaching out and taking the cat. Once he had it he was careful with it in his strong, robotic hands. He soothed it while saying "Hey, hey, easy little guy. Everything's alright. Your sister's fine. See?" He directed the cat towards the one in the duchess' hand before saying "You're alright. Shhh. She's okay. No need to worry." Despite if it was working or not Orron looked between both of them while explaining "Jedi can sense the feels and thoughts of others. Trust me, I know what they're thinking."

Choosing to ignore Maka's remark about her ego, Benedali instead replied, "To be fair, we don't know, either."

She stopped laughing, though, when Orrus said that the other kitten was in fact afraid for his sister. Her thoughts flashed back to [member="Arick Serrus"] , who had yet to respond to her. Probably chewing out one of the guards, she decided.

Benedali gave a small smile as she watched the cyborg Jedi try to calm down the little kitten. "The thoughts of others, hmm? I wish I had that ability -- it would make playing the politics game so much easier." She reached over to scratch the other kitten under the chin, in the hopes that he would see that the only danger he was in was getting too many cuddles.

Lili was still completely ignorant to anything else. Happy cat is happy

When the cyborg grabbed Tiger he began to claw angrily, but then the man started talking in a soothing tone, calming Tiger down. Tiger had decided it was time for some incognito and decided to play nice, for now. It became apparent to Tiger that he would not win this fight since either the one with glasses was too stupid or too weak to help him. So Tiger lay down on the giant's cold, metal hands and decided to try and settle this matter diplomatically. The woman the stretched out her hand to scratch Tiger and then he though he could play this off for a free meal.

Shaking his head at the thought of Benedali reading minds, Maka shrugged as he thought of the times he'd actually used the Force. Never once since his mother had died had it been outside of a combat or training situation. It just hadn't occurred to him, before. But now that the cyborg had mentioned it, Maka attempted to reach out, and the full weight of the cat's intelligence could now be felt. Brushing aside my Duchess' hand with an apologetic look, I made my move.

Picking the cat gently out of the cyborg's hands, Maka began to speak to it, as he'd spoken to the cats at home when he was a kid. With his mind, "You're worried about your sister, huh? I can understand that. Do you want some cheese, my fuzzy friend? Or maybe even some jerky?"

He looked back up at the cyborg and Benedali, and grinned, saying, "I didn't even think I could still use my mind like that. I used to talk to my cats when I was a kid. The white ones were always my favorites."
