Quality: 10 in EMP and Ion Resistance.

Special features:

Strengths

+ EMP and Ion Resistant - the technology of Quantium Crystaline fused quartz mesh allows an increased resistance to electricity, EMP, and Ion weaponry due to its electrical resistance. Note, while this will work against direct electrical attacks (lightning, some of the ion grenades, some short range EMPs) but that it will not protect against long range EMP weapons that use EM radiation as the primary mechanism.

Weaknesses

- Temperature: Reaching the melting point will make EMP and Ion resistance inert.
- Sonic Break: Specific sound frequencies may shatter the Fused Quartz Crystalline mesh, prompting the possibility of EMP and Ion attacks still leaking through.
-Sustained EMP or Ion Damage: This lining can also be countered by sustained application of electromagnetic pulses or a rapid barrage of Ion weaponry (Five distinct hits), prompting a need to replace the Fused Quartz Crystaline Mesh.

Description:

Fused quartz and silica are excellent electrical insulators. The large band gap inherent in the electronic structure of the silicon-oxygen bond results in electrical conduction being limited to current carried by mobile ionic impurities. Since the level of these impurities is very low, the electrical resistivity is correspondingly high.

Thus comes a product that combines the perks of a mesh underlay providing an increased resistance to electricity, EMP, and Ion weaponry due to its electrical resistance. Designed with the same principles as mesh armor, the mesh underlay accessory helped channel certain types of energy away from the wearer's body, reducing the effectiveness of a potentially devastating blow. While it will not make it immune, the result is a near translucent mesh underlay that reduces the effectiveness of Ion and EMP attacks. Note, while this will work against direct electrical attacks (lightning, some of the ion grenades, some short range EMPs) but that it will not protect against long range EMP weapons that use EM radiation as the primary mechanism.

The Fused Quartz Crystaline Mesh has been in essence, Radation hardened. Radiation-hardened products are typically tested to one or more resultant effects tests, including total ionizing dose (TID), enhanced low dose rate effects (ELDRS), neutron and proton displacement damage, and single event effects.

Fused Quartz Crystaline Mesh is a product used in armor in order to achieve a greater resistance to EMP and Ion pulses. It is not a catch all immunity, but a resistance, as the swept fused crystalline mesh still has several hard locks. While it does retain a higher melting point than traditional glass, it is still very capable of melting in extreme heat. Since ionic conduction is related to the diffusion coefficient of the ionic carriers, the resistivity also has a strong exponential temperature dependence. Hence, unlike typical conductors such as metals, the resistivity decreases with increasing temperature.

Weaknesses also include specific sound frequencies, much like compressed energy crystal lattices where it can potentially shatter the lattice. This mesh lining can also be countered by sustained application of electromagnetic pulses or a rapid barrage of Ion weaponry (Five distinct hits) as it is only a material for increased resistance, not immunity, prompting it to be required to be replaced if turned inert.

So typical EMP shielding works by using a conductive mesh to protect the vulnerable technology. A faraday cage works because the presence of an electromagnetic field induces a charge on the mesh that perfectly counteracts that field from the point of view of anything within the mesh.

An electromagnetic pulse works because it is a very large spike over a very short period of time. Take the fourier transform of this and you'll find something approaching a top-hat function. This means that you're dumping a lot of power into a wide range of frequencies. It is not clear to me that crystals are going to protect against a broadband electromagnetic wave.

Make clear that this submission will work against direct electrical attacks (lightnight, some of the ion grenades, some short range EMPs) but that it will not protect against long range EMP weapons that use EM radiation as the primary mechanism.

How is that?
