Description:
The traditional weapon of the Eldorai has been, for almost 300 years, the staser. It was a weapon born of the circumstances and out of the need to fight a specific enemy; other Eldorai.
During the time of the great wars with the Kar’zun, this weapon would have been no use. Rather, they used heavy, slow firing weapons capable of piercing the armour of their stony opponents. However, when victory came, and the years lengthened it came to be that the only enemy the Eldorai had to fear was each other. Against swift Eldorai and their mobile vehicles the old weapons were redundant and worse, ineffective.
Therefore the staser was created to provide a basic weapon for the Star Queen’s armies. At its base the staser is a hybrid of blaster and slugthrower, with strengths from both but also key flaws which now make it outdated in the modern galaxy.
The ammunition itself are very small metallic spikes about a 3cm long, allowing for a very large magazine. These spikes are not solid, but partly hollowed to contain a small charge which, when fired, energises the spike. This plasma coated and filled round is caseless and allows the shot to be fired very quickly. Thus the impact of these metal spikes can be horrific against light or no armour. A single spike can penetrate several enemies in succession, inflicting terrible wounds. The staser has good accuracy when fired from the shoulder, but can spray suppressive fire to quickly empty the magazine.
For centuries this weapon was improved, upgraded, expanded until it’s reached its peak now at a time when outside forces move to supercede it.

As it turned out, the staser is a hybrid of blaster and slugthrower, better in some ways than each, but ultimately unable to keep up with the march of galactic technology.
As far as penetration goes, the staser completely lacks the blaster’s punch. The spikes, travelling at such speeds, tend to shatter or reflect off solid armour. A stormtrooper of the Galactic Empire could stand in front of a volley of staser armed soldiers and be unharmed unless a shot hit a weak joint. This helps explain the strange Eldorai fascination with melee weapons such as the sarix, as their main weapon is rather less effective against Taegis equipped enemies.
As it requires metallic ammunition, the staser is by nature heavier than a blaster and the production of the rounds is not cheap. As each and every round needs to be manufactured, Eldorai soldiers often complain about lacking ammunition or having that ammunition be deficient. A single jammed round can cause the gun to explode if another shot is fired into the jam.
Aside from weight, lack of penetration and ammunition problems, the staser suffers from two additional problems; one technological and one cultural.
Technologically, the staser is simply no longer efficient to make and use. Against opponents the Eldorai now face who use blasters or other more powerful weapons, the staser is outdated. As it is also expensive to manufacture and maintain relative to a blaster or bolter, it is eventually doomed to die out.
Culturally, the staser has become a part of the Eldorai identity, and proponents of it even in the face of clear evidence show its downfalls mean that it remains the primary Eldorai weapon despite its flaws. Perhaps the greatest downfall then for the staser is that it is doomed to be shown up on the battlefield, a remnant of an older and simpler time.

Alright, this is a really good and well thought out sub, I might ICly get my hands on this and update it to be a little more modern. There is only one thing that stands out to me. Under range you say: 'equivalent to a standard blaster.' Can I get get a defenitive range please?

I have put in the standard range listed on the E-11 blaster and AK-47, which is the basis of these weapons. The 'dangerous range' is less than either's maximum range because of the staser bolt's lack of mass.
