Initially, Tenloss' only expansion into new material construction and design was a set of starship armor, but with the galaxy at war and materials at a premium, Popo felt it was time to expand once more.
Tasked with the challenge of creating a new, lightweight material for use in lightweight Tenloss weapons and vehicles, Tenloss R&D got to work immediately. After months of research and experimentation on new types of alloys, the final product, Duralite, was unveiled.
Weighing mere fractions of the weight of Durasteel, Duralite is the lightest metal alloy Tenloss produces. Extremely lightweight and featuring a very low density, the metal is perfect for use where weight is at a premium. Duralite is constructed from a variety of plastics, silicates, and carbons using Durasteel as the base to produce a psuedo-Plasteel alloy more similar to a hardened plastic than a true metal. Because of this, metal detecting scanners often fail to pick up the material, an unintended side effect perfect for those with more clandestine motives or goals in mind.
The downside is that the material is not as effective or strong as traditional durasteel and so is considered ineffective as an armor substitute. However, as the the material is planned for use more as an internal feature for lightweight machinery, this is considered and acceptable tradeoff by Tenloss production leads.
