Description: With the request of the Republic for a weapon capable of causing significant devastation to Yuuzhan Vong targets, Emeritus set about developing a weapon capable of rendering the living material and bio-weaponry nigh useless. The resulting weapon was something most exotic, an armament made exceedingly dangerous, yet easy to produce.

The Dicobaltyne Jezzail Pistol utilizes a basic hyperheated particle beam to send a stream of energized particles at a target, causing damage. Unlike a standard particle beam blaster, the consistency of the weapon shot is such that a solid blue beam is produced instead of a myriad of yellow bolts. This is caused by the source - an artificially formed brick of cobalt-60 and polonium-210, mounted in front of the particle array within the weapon itself, inside the 'cylinder' of the gun. Upon activation, the particle beam passes over the source, chipping away on a microscopic level at the highly radioactive particles comprising the beam, many of which are carried away to the target. Upon contact, as with all particle weapons, a small explosion occurs on impact, resulting in the covering of the target with tainted particulate. Though the beam itself does little damage, as does the explosion, both spread radioactive material across the target, super-energized by the beam. Massively intense levels of beta and gamma radiation are released in a localized area(0.25-0.5m), killing cells within the enemy and causing a practically incurable death. Upon contact with organic Vong weapons, they too will begin to shrivel up and decay thanks to the high level of radioactivity.

This weapon, however, is not without drawbacks. As the weapon itself is made of agrinium to ensure the user isn't killed by the radioactivity, individuals wearing agrinium armor or rad suits will be practically impervious to damage unless containment is breached, being that agrinium is nigh-impervious to all forms of radiation. Even then, the interior of the weapon surrounding the entirety of the source has a small energy shield to absorb whatever beta radiation is emitted. As well, organisms immune to radiation poisoning will also be untouched by the beam, though the particle beam effect itself will have no effect on them. Areas impacted by the weapon will also require cleanup, as higher than normal levels of radiation will remain on the exterior of any targets for over a century if left untouched.

Dicobaltyne Jezzail Pistols are illegal for civilian use, and are authorized solely for use by the Armed Forces of the Republic.

How is the brick of radioactive material stored within the weapon? Is there a latch which opens upon pulling the trigger to allow the radioactive material to be lazed through the barrel, or is it openly exposed to the elements?

If a particle beam that carries microscopic amounts of this ultra-radioactive material can kill cells within 1 to 2 meters from impact, a brick most certainly would require extremely heavy safety measures that go beyond simply making the encasing out of agrinium. Simply firing this weapon would release enough radioactivity to kill its wielder from the burning of radioactive material that would release very potent doses of vapor either through exhaust or from the barrel itself.

Blaster pistols generally have a limited effective range of 30 meters, and being that this is a particle beam that is firing "through" an irradiated source, it should be somewhere below average in effective range. Please adjust this accordingly.

Edited. Range has been reduced to 25m. The sub has otherwise been edited as well to explain the location of the source within the weapon, as well as a reduction in immediate radiation range upon impact with a target. Also included another safeguard. I would like to point out that an Agrinium Rad-Exoskeleton is highly recommended for use by any wielder of the weapon, and they are at serious risk for radiation exposure and contamination without it, hence the pairing of the two.
