Intent: A low-profile hyperdrive
Development Thread: None
Manufacturer: Clan Rekali, Inc
Model: Dha'karbakar ('Dark Hyperdrive')
Affiliation: Select customers
Modularity: No
Production: Limited
Material: Hyperdrive components
Description: The Dha'karbakar is a military-grade class-1.0 hyperdrive, suitable for vessels of 100 meters in length or less.
  • Low-profile, advanced-geometry hyperspace bubble allows ships outfitted with the Dha'karbakar to go unnoticed by hyperspace early warning sensors, hyperspace monitors, hyperwave signal interceptors, etc. The Dha'karbakar is best paired with a good-quality navicomputer, capable of making a long, complex trip without reversion. This function of the Dha'karbakar is fairly useless over long range when a poor navicomputer is involved, or when using a system that stores a limited number of jumps (as with some starfighters), as both conditions would generally require repeated reversions. Note also that due to the demands of the advanced low-profile hyperspace bubble, the Dha'karbakar's 'mileage' is not great, limiting hyperspace range by a varying factor and thus making it an impractical strategic choice for mass-produced basic starfighters, which generally have a range of only 3-5,000 light-years. It's designed for individual couriers or groups of subcapital raiders, not for surprise attacks with massive fighter swarms.
  • 15-30 minutes of pre-reversion deceleration to a positively glacial class 20.0 allows ships outfitted with the Dha'karbakar to avoid triggering reversion sensors and gemcutters. Note that the ship will show up on sensors as normal, immediately after reversion; the Dha'karbakar is not a substitute for a stealth suite. This function of the Dha'karbakar is thus useless unless the ship is also outfitted with appropriate stealth capabilities. Note also that the effort of minimizing a reversion signature would be worthless if the technology was somehow upscaled for larger vessels, or used for very large flotillas of small ships. Also note that, as with other reversion sensors, sensors calibrated for Cronau radiation detection will spot a Dha'karbakar-equipped ship if it exits hyperspace too close to a properly equipped planet or fleet, as with Death Squadron over Hoth. Minimizing size of ship and hyperspace exit velocity, as well as carefully choosing exit vector -- Cronau radiation is projected perpendicular to angle of reversion -- will minimize Cronau emissions, both objectively and subjectively.
