Height: 7.2m
Width: 15m

Armament:
2 x L-s9.3 Laser Cannons
2 x NK3 Ion Cannons
2 x Integrated SSG-Mk22 Mod 1 Advanced Concussion Missile Launcher (6-tube launcher with 3 missiles superposed per tube for a total of 18 per launcher)

Special Features:

Maneuverability Rating: 4
Speed Rating: 4
Hyperdrive Class: 2

Strengths:

  • Heavily Armored

  • Large Missile Magazine

  • Theoretically capable of darting in, dumping missiles up close on a capital ship, and then darting away before the interceptors can rip it apart. That's how it works on paper, at any rate.
Weaknesses:

  • Slow and mediocre maneuverability relative to dedicated space superiority fighters

  • Rear armoring is noticeably weaker than elsewhere

  • Missiles go boom
Description:
A new take on a classic design, the Xg-5 'Omega' Star Wing II is an attempt to bring the One Sith strike craft capabilities out of the dark ages. The new 'Delta' Star Wing takes the best ideas from the original (and it's successor, the Missile Boat) and tries to combine them with modern technology to create an advanced Strike Fighter. The result can be considered at least partial success.

Like it's forebearer, the Xg-5 is heavily armored and shielded for a fighter, with a heavy quadanium steel and titanium alloy hull with advanced G-32 Amor Plating covering most of the vessel. Shielding is provided fore and aft via a Novaldex array, more or less unchanged in the last 800 years. The fighter (which straddles the line of gunboat) also possesses a respectable array of conventional weapons, with the powerful L-s9.3 Laser Cannons mounted on the wings and a pair of ion cannons directly over the cockpit.

But no strike fighter would feel right without a large complement of missiles, and while the Xg-5 isn't exactly on Missile Boat levels of ridiculous, it still mounts a sizable pair of magazines. The key part of this design is that the six tube launchers are in fact a superposed load weapon system. Three sets of advanced concussion missiles are packed in, resulting in an abnormally large magazine size (though still less than the Xg-1, how'd those Imperial Engineers do it?).

Despite appearances, this doesn't give the ship an absurd rate of fire, the cycle time to cool off the subsequent weapons and move them into position means that the maximum volley is still limited by the number of tubes (12). Additionally, unlike most missile launchers these days, the systems are specifically built for concussion missiles and cannot be refitted with other types of warheads, limiting their versatility. Also they have to ripple fire, because of heat stuff and it looks cooler. As a final trade off, the targeting and fire control system is incapable of properly tracking more than four missiles fired at a single fighter-sized vessel. Any beyond the additional four will fail to acquire and act as dumb weapons. It can fire on multiple targets at time, though.

The SLAM system was likewise taken from early Imperial designs, and gives the ship the ability to boost it's sublight speed for short bursts while stripping power from weapons and shields. Initial trials showed the system to be somewhat unreliable, sometimes shorting out weapons entirely, and tactical doctrine now limits use of it for high speed attack runs and for a quick getaway. The Delta Star Wing also incorporates the best in One Sith proprietary targeting systems.

Other notable defects cropped up in the development process, mostly related to the missile launchers. Because they use almost all the premium space, most of the advanced systems of the fighter are concentrated in the rear, where the armor was lightened out of necessity. Once shields are down, the craft becomes very vulnerable to even a couple laser shots to the tail, where the reactor is situated. Finally as one might expect from packing in a lot of ordnance into a small space, the missile launchers themselves are rather volatile should one get through the armor.

Last but not least, the Delta Star Wing is designed as a Strike Fighter first and foremost. While it can hold its own against more traditional fighters (mostly due to heavy armor and shields), it is not designed to stick it out in a dogfight (the aforementioned weak tail armor notwithstanding) and generally performs poorly against true space superiority craft.

Capital ships without a proper escort or good AA suite better run and hide, though.

During Cyrus Tregessar's sudden departure from the One Sith, the complete design blueprints of the Star Wing II were stolen and turned over to the First Order Imperial Corp of Engineers. The craft would go on to become a common sight among First Order fleets.

Intent: Yo have you seen the pic. FractalSponge is an art god, his Star Wing needs a worthy sub. Also Sith fighters... yeah.

[member="Cyrus Tregessar"] Great design, I was going to use the same image lol. looks good over all but It will need 10 posts of development for the SLAM Drive and it is good to go.

I wasn't sold on the SLAM to begin with, if I scrap it is it good to go?

And yeah I saw you've been eating up all the fractalsponge. I've got my eyes on the escort shuttle next. >.>

Dev thread done and linked in the sub. Also one small change made mostly for color purposes detailed below.
