I'd try to claim Abyss position, using his defeat at my hand as evidence he was too weak for the role, and as a rite of succession. If Ferox and the other members of this elusive council opposed me I would probably drop my claim, realizing that it would be a piss poor idea to make a group of Sith Assassins my enemies.

I just want to clarify that I am electrocuting you through our joined grip. Darth Plagueis did the same thing to a mystic that he was hunting down to kill in the novel Star Wars: Darth Plagueis. It's where I got the idea from. Abyss shouldn't be blasted away from me, it should be like being joined to a live electrical cable or something of the other.
