Biography:

Born in 334BBY on the planet Myrkr, Cul-utaan Novan spent his early years as a sapling, absorbing nutrients and communing with the lush environment around him. Feeling a strong connection to the natural world Cul-utaan could feel the life essence of the creatures and fellow hibernating Neti that were native to the planet. States of hibernation could last for months at a time, Cul-utaan would unwittingly influence the surrounding foliage to grow and bloom; gently feeding the life force without conscious thought, through the natural force sensitivity found in all of the neti race. When out of hibernation Cul-utaan would often use his species' natural ability to shape shift; shrinking himself down from his natural tree-like appearance, to a more mobile humanoid form. Cul-utaan appeared as only a young child, long strands of mossy tendrils sprawled from his head and down to his back; covering his face, giving him an overall scruffy yet natural appearance. Walking through the forest and instinctively reading the feelings of local animals, Cul-utaans inquisitive mind would often lead him in search of humanoid colonies. Myrkr was no stranger to foreign races colonizing small settlements and taking advantage of the planet's natural resources and fertile soils. Secretly observing the humanoid shapes Cul-utaan would attempt to perfect his own appearance and mannerisms; as well as gaining a natural grasp of their common tongue "Basic". The ability to understand and speak both "Neti" and "Basic" was a common trait for the neti race, as their natural force sensitivity and empathy gave them an intuitive knack for languages.

Eventually Cul-utaan inquisitive nature got the better of him and he approached an agricultural settlement. Mostly made up of humans, Cul-utaan quickly gained their trust and affection as they realized the positive effects of Cul-utaans presence on surrounding plant life. Inadvertently nurturing the harvest around him with his natural force presence. After a few years of communing with the settlers and helping them prosper in exchange for gaining knowledge of other planets and systems in the galaxy.

One of the settlers who frequently traded information, requested that cul-utaan visit his storage unit. On arrival cul-utaan was confronted by an unknown chiss bounty hunter. The bounty hunter exchanged credits with the settler before stunning the young Neti. When cul-utaan woke up, he found himself in a garden. Manicured and contained, there were no creatures in the trees or depth to the soil. He was a prisoner, an exotic plant to add to the collection of an out of touch noble-man.

Cul-utaan dwelt in the garden, tending to the plants and helping them grow for the next three years. By chance the noble who owned the garden found himself needing the services of the Jedi. A young Jedi Knight by the name of Ousan Wezz was assigned to protect the nobleman at his estate. Ousan could sense the force in cul-utaan. Sensing cul-utaans need to be free Ousan demanded the Netis freedom in exchange for the Jedi's continued protection.

The Jedi could sense the child's force potential immediately. Knowing that all Neti were naturally force sensitive, this was no surprise. However the way that Cul-utaans force presence spread and influenced the environment around him spoke volumes; adding on top of that the rarity of the Neti species Ousan Wezz could hardly refuse the child. After a short exchange Ousan and Cul-utaan departed for Coruscant to be evaluated properly at the Jedi temple.

After deliberations about Cul-utaans age, the Jedi eventually accepted him to begin his Jedi training as a Jedi Initiate or youngling. The main point of contention for their decision was Cul-utaans advanced age, being 12 years old by this point. Typically Jedi are found and recruited as early as possible. However, given the exceedingly long life span of the Neti species, Cul-utaan was still extremely young for his species.

Cul-utaan grasped the fundamentals of the force quickly, under the tutelage of Ousan Wezz. However Netis' movements are naturally more sluggish than the average humanoid race; which required him to invest a lot of time practicing the "control" aspects of the force, namely "Art of Movement" and low level applications of "Force Speed" in order to physically keep up with other initiates. Cul-utaan was naturally more reliant on his force abilities then his saber. Paired with his species' natural sluggishness in movement Cul-utaan leaned towards the economic styles of light saber combat, namely form three Soresu and form two Makashi. The majority of this form's blade work was achieved with one hand, which married itself well with his final form of Niman, allowing him to keep one hand free to project force abilities when needed. All in all Cul-utaan became a proficient force user and although still relied on force abilities, was skilled with a blade.

Due to his species' long life span, Cul-utaan spent his years traveling the galaxy and seeking out the mysteries of the force. Not taking on a Padwan and adopting a philosophy of balance in the force and neutrality. Cul-utaan avoided the politics of the Republic as much as his duties allowed.

During the events of the "great Jedi purge" Cul-utaan survived order 66. Sensing the betrayal of the troopers and the fall of the temple, Cul-utaan attempted to locate surviving Jedi. When hope was lost cul-utaan exiled himself, reverting himself to his natural tree-like state, blending in with the natural foliage of the planet and entering a deep hibernation that would last centuries. Whilst in the hibernation, Cul-utaan could feel the Jedi presence continually fade away and be reborn several times over. Eventually waking in 400ABY with the surrounding plant life completely withered away and in a much older looking body appearing in his mid to late 30s, Cul-utaan attempts to seek out the current Jedi order and serve the force once again.

Strengths:

Shape Shift: A natural ability of his race Cul-utaan can change the shape and size of his body and features. The majority of this ability revolves around changing from his natural tree-like state for resting and camouflage; to changing into his humanoid form for mobility. This skill makes him useful for infiltration roles, shifting his shape to appear closer to a particular species; or changing to the tree form to blend into the environment.

Longevity: As a Neti Cul-utaan has a life span of several centuries, enabling him to gain several life times worth of experience. This allows him to see situations from different angles.

Economic movement: Due to Neti having naturally sluggish movements, Cul-utaan employs force speed as second nature. Also using economic saber styles like form three soresu enables him to weave between an opponent's attacks and conserve as much energy as possible to counter the short comings of his species.

The Living Force: With a strong connection to nature, Cul-utaan has an instinctive connection to the living force; making his response to it fluent and effortless. This allows him to move with precision and speed in combat and apply force techniques at a moment's notice.

Weakness:

Photosynthesis: As a plant based species, Cul-utaan relies on sun light and water to survive. This limits how long he can survive out in space without specific equipment designed to mimic sunlight. This weakness can be offset by using the force to a point, but ultimately lengthy space missions are discouraged.

Sluggishness: As a species Netis movements are naturally more sluggish then the humanoid average (average being human). This means that Cul-utaan needs to supplement his speed with the force when in combat as a necessity rather than a general enhancement.

Form Flaws: Being a form three soresu and form six Niman user Cul-utaans saber style isn't suited for taking on heavy power dualists head on. He would rather re-direct and evade power blows and then either cut in to openings of his opponents defences with his blade, or use close range force pushes for break joints or bones.

Light Saber forms:

Form 2 Makashi:

relying on Makashis emphasis on economic movements, Cul-utaan uses the form as his go to for blade on blade engagements; and relies heavily on its focus on precision over power during nearly all other combative situations that require a light saber. Typical approach with the form during blade to blade combat would be to use to style to probe weaknesses and deliver jabs and slashes at blinding speed when openings are created.

Form Three Soresu:

Due to form twos weaknesses with blast deflection and groups Cul-utaan falls back on form three to deal with blaster wielding opponents or groups. When dealing with groups of saber wielding opponents Cul-utaan uses Soresu to evade and create openings to strike out again with form two.

Form Six Niman:

Due to his long life and preference for force abilities Niman was unavoidable. The form provides adequate coverage for soresus inherent offensive weaknesses. Nimans focus on chaining force attacks in tandem with blade combat marrying itself well to Cul-utaan personality and preference to one handed blade work.

Force Abilities:

Throughout his long life Cul-utaan will learn many force abilities, allot of them pertaining to the living force. Typical method of use during combat at Jedi level would be to use quick pushes and pulls to off balance enemies whilst working in tandem with his blade work. When against groups Cul-utaan will mainly relies on pushes and the occasional expression of force lightning to keep one opponent busy whilst delivering quick jabs with his saber to another. The force abilities have been listed in level order to give people an idea of what he can do throughout the timeline. For example in 400ABY where the characters story begins to reach the time line of this sites story line, he will not be using master level abilities, as he hasn't reached that rank yet.
