Corporate Expansion

Galven sat at the head of the table, the board and some of the larger companies in the CMBT sat in front of him, atop the largest building on Denon, overlooking the skyline, seeing nothing but metal for as far as the eye could see. This was the largest endeavor CMBT would do to date, create a massive dock yard above the planet Denon. He began, "Hello fellow members, we all know what we have set out to do, now the question is whether or not we can, and if we can, how should it be laid out, Hansol Mining Corporation can supply the materials to build it, Darren Jarok has already agreed to supply materials and the use of his construction frigates, much appreciated. So the question is, who else is willing to help, and what do they want of the station in return?"

"You have to understand that the Sith Inquisitor's role is more as a support for any organics among the crew of the construction frigates" she told [member="Galven Hansol"] over holoconference.

Yula was busy setting up a new office on Zonju 5 to cover the southwest areas of the galaxy, and also a new printing press. The SI might have an advantage over the others in this journalistic printing rat race that took place on the planet, but they mustn't rest on their laurels. The printing equipment is on their way, of course, but it isn't scheduled to arrive until two days or so. [member="Kami Meran"] was familiar with the Sith Inquisitor, but she mustn't assume anyone else in CMBT actually knows anything about the Sith Inquisitor. The newspaper is not in the best of shapes, of course not. But she had to get the name out there for it to continue on its success.

"Thus the Sith Inquisitor would like not only to provide the construction crews with newspapers in bulk, with the appropriate discounts. Also, once the construction ends, we would expect the newspapers to continue to be distributed to the staff working in-station"

Darren sat in one of the chairs on the table with his good friend Reyzar Kep, A muun who is the second in command of Jarok Shipyards. Darren had many holograms around him. He was designing a Star Destroyer and a starfighter to be used for the police force the CMBT. The CEO opened his mouth to speak.

"Try to get more people to join our cause."

"Yes, we do need to find different possibilities to expand, the question is, does anyone have any ideas. Most of us are board members, so we have the responsibility of presenting the Coalition, so does anybody have any ideas?"

"Mesa Ugohr Poof, representing IGR. Yousa need financing? That issa, do yousa need to take out loans to get disen dockyard built?"

[member="Galven Hansol"] may or may not be in need of financing, but hopefully the dockyard would be built using what [member="Darren Jarok"] has to offer, technology-wise. Also, the Gungan recognized, in holograms, the lady that was busy building a newspaper printing facility on Zonju V, while Ugohr swiftly returned to Sullust, where he had his office in the Jedi Temple due to his job as a B2B salesman and his pre-release conditions as someone imprisoned for manslaughter. His crime disgusted him from combat missions, and even if he wasn't, he knew that there would be no shortage of Jedi willing to take these missions, for better or for worse. Sure he continued to train would-be Jedi Diplomats in economics (it was the main thing Jedi used economics on the field for, unless one wanted to be working in the Jedi bureaucracy), even though he knew that the Force was actually of little help in terms of diplomacy. He had something else to tell the other members of the CMBT regarding this project:

"Oh and wesa can also get da dockyard insured if yousa want, and yousa may even get better interest rates on yoursa financing if yousa also accept to have oursa subsidiary, Pizza Hutt, supply pizzas when construction issa underway and beyond itsa completion"

"Of coarse [member="Ugohr Poof"], all members that participate in the creation of the space station will be able to have shops on it if they so please, and along with [member="Yula Knezevic"]'s papers, worker moral will be high, and production time would most likely increase by 23%, reducing the time to very much compensate for the use of your companies. As for financing, it would be very advantageous to use a large bank within the CMBT such as yours, you will not be disappointed in its quality."

"Oh, of course, I know the morale of the staff is important to keeping it together until the project ends"

If there was one thing she learned from commanding Darth Maladon's forces (even if she took up the command after Lord Maladon died) is that morale was one of those things that Sith traditionally overlooked. Ugohr's contribution was welcome, too, and she knew that logistics was a thing that mattered, too. At best Sith are, to her eyes, of the beatings-shall-continue-until-morale-improves variety, when it came to their own forces' morale, but [member="Galven Hansol"] knew better. [member="Darren Jarok"], on the other hand, got the security part covered. The dockyard was, in essence, a security asset, or produce said security assets.

"The newspaper contract is on its way"

"If yousa also accept to have usen insure da dockyard, yousa may have a lower interest rate on yoursa loans. Wesa"

Ugohr continued talking about what IGR could do to lower their interest rates but he knew that he couldn't quite tie the sale of multiple products to the financing, but he could offer preferential rates so that, while [member="Galven Hansol"] could still get financing without also getting insurance and/or a Pizza Hutt location, he will get a better deal with those. However, he has no right to assume hat business laws are the same across the galaxy, and that is a topic of constant concern in the legal department. Which means that interplanetary private law is a big thing to IGR. But any discussion of financing begins with their ability to service debt. Here Ugohr has a pretty good idea that the construction will be done, especially since Galven claimed that the enhanced morale of the pizza and newspapers will get it done a lot faster. Hopefully there won't be cost overruns (which can truly make the client of construction projects go under).

"As for yoursa financing, how much do yousa feel dat yousa can afford each month to service debt (once itsa construction issa over)?"

[member="Darren Jarok"]

"Even though I have my misgivings about it, Ugohr, about Jedi investing in a Sith-backed venture, perhaps you could give free insurance for all the locations in exchange for a stake in a Denon location"

Yula used the dark side, but that didn't mean Ugohr wouldn't listen: he would realize that, while the Caldera is a Sith stronghold, and the Sith Inquisitor's main market, she does realize that she will need some more capital to expand beyond the Caldera. Free insurance would free up some money over the insurance policies she has now, especially since the one for the Ziost location has gotten cost-prohibitive in the wake of the attacks. She knows better than to stay idle waiting for a break. Perhaps there is another investor to be had: she knew most Sith would turn her down because of the editorial line of the newspaper, hopefully IGR will listen to reason and actually discern regardless of the amount of scrutiny. The Sith Inquisitor is in a bizarre situation: their content was as clearly anti-Sith as it comes, yet it was still Sith-owned. May the Gungan realize that I have been completely reasonable in offering to him, she thought.

"Here, Ugohr. All the property valuations of the locations I currently operate: Alexandria, Ringo Vinda, Zonju V, Ziost and Glyss"

"Wesa purchasen a stake of 10% in da Denon office then"

Ugohr realized that it was not much of an investment, but he was entitled to a quarter-page ad on page 6 by doing so. Even so, the Gungan realizes that questions will be raised by the NJO on Sullust, especially with respect to the editorial line of the newspaper. He was cautious around Yula for that very reason, but IGR could make exceptions provided the business practices aren't overly questionable. They might have snatched free publicity on the Sullust Daily and other media outlets in GA space, but never actually invested in any of those media outlets. Furthermore, he was most uncomfortable knowing that the Sith Inquisitor has the largest media market share in the Caldera: that will make IGR hated throughout the Caldera if it was made public, if it wasn't already.

"Yousa realize dat usen investin in yoursa business will raise some questions from da Alliance authorities on Sullust"
