Gardens of Roan, Vassek
Imperial Knight Training Compound

The vast expansion of flora and vegetation surrounded the innards of the main compound grounds. Whilst the majority of the training facility had been fielded with a massive array of weaponry and training tools. Rather than a religious type Force order that the Sith and Jedi had, the Imperial Knights were solely for military use. They had a chain of command, strict doctrines, and rules of engagement. Very, very nice change from the old Sith life Davin was used to.

The Chiss Admiral, newly appointed, made his way throughout the Gardens. A grey-silver uniform rested upon his young, lean frame. He was only 19 years old and yet the Fel Imperator had handed him Admiral bars considering his lineage and past experiences in the Sith Imperial Navy. Davin had led vast fleets at the Battle of Valen, pushing his men to the brink of victory on the Western flank while the rest of the allied forces grouped on the East and got stuck in the mud.

Hopefully there would be someone worthy enough to take him on head to head and teach him a thing or two.

One of the best things about that Fel Empire was that Jared was finally locating a place for himself to fit. His father and the elders of the Wing had placed a lot of restrictions on the newer generations. There would be no training from higher in the Wing until someone else took the new pilots under their own tutelege. This was to ensure that the Wing, and the ship’s ideals were varied and new tools and techniques were constantly learned. It was important that the Wing didn’t fall under anything that resembled Rules of Two, or anything that caused damage like the Sith or the Jedi.

A varied approach was best. Especially when the Wing was doubling as air support, or tactical guerilla tactics. Once they found a task, the men and women of the Dawn Treader were there, mind and body, and their varied approach to para-military training was always needed.

Stepping through the Gardens, in a black tunic and pants, having been off duty and aboard the ship in orbit, Jared noticed the Admiral and immediately moved into a crisp salute. It had been more crisp than when he had first arrived on the planet, but this was due to things picking up steam. Around his neck was a silver chain, and on the chain a viridian lightsaber crystal. The first synth-crystal his father had created, over a decade ago. This crystal had seen many battles, but his father had upgraded it to a pure green one around the time the stirrings of Fel’s new empire had shown up.

If it was time for the Imperial Knights to rise, the Force Users of the Dawn Treader were going to assist, however they were going to separate themselves. The viridian crystal was to symbolize Jared’s connection to his home ship and family, all the while allowing him to create the silver crystal that would represent him as a member of the Imperial Knights.

As Davin thumbed at the sides of the tree he was leaning against, his crimson eyes caught movement towards him. Strolling through the pathwalk surrounded in vegetation came the young, respectable man that he'd met before. The Chiss noticed him snapping a sharp, clean salute as he approached and came to a halt. "At ease." The Admiral sounded off, offering his own salute. "No need to salute me here. We're all equals until promoted to Knight." He gave a little grin, knowing he let off information that he also was Force sensitive.

Force sensitive, yet that sensitivity hadn't been tapped into. The sheer thought of harnessing unparalleled power made him shiver with excitement. His campaigns would be ruthless and unbeatable. Maybe even he could make it all the way back home and free his people? Davin's crimson eyes twinkled with delight as the thoughts flowed forth.

Perhaps his Force senses were kicking in, but he felt someone else closing in as well. She bore the markings of an Imperial Master, an extremely seasoned user in the Force. The figure wore the signature red armor of the Imperial Knights, a grey lightsaber hanging on its hip. As the form closed in, the Admiral confirmed it as a female. She had light brown hair, hanging down below her shoulders, hazel eyes, and a graceful yet authoritative presence. Davin was riveted.

"Hello there, cadets. I'm Master Kayla Verik. I've been assigned to train you both as we've had a shortage on masters and training personnel around here." She pulled strands of her hair back behind her ear. "Apparently some big stuff is happening on the frontlines and most of the Order has been getting deployed lately."

"So, let's begin." She gestured for them to follow. And so they did. Davin and Jared at his side followed Master Verik as they exited the Gardens and went into the training chambers. Various other Imperial Cadets were training, sparring, meditating, or studying as they passed through parts of the barracks bay and into the technical labs. "This is your first test. Lightsaber creation. You'll both create a white bladed lightsaber with a grey hilt to signify Imperial unity and our stance within the Force."
"Understood."
"Ah, Admiral." She said, noticing his rank bars. "Quite a pleasure to have you training with us. I apologize for not recognizing your status already."
Davin huffed a little chuckle. "It's fine, I am now in your care. Please guide and teach me."

And with that, the trio left to settle down on the workbenches lining the room. "Alright, cadets. Settle down in front of a bench and the necessary materials are in front of you. Get ready and we'll begin."

It was a habit. Jared was not one that was able to separate the Force from the military ranks. His home-ship never did, however, he was at the bottom rung on most of those as well, having only recently been made able to take control of a flight of fighters. And even that it was flight three of Hawk, they were the big guns in the Wing. And they really didn’t do much aside from strafing. He was raised in the Peregrine Squadron, which were the fast fighters. “Of course, sir… Davin.” Jared nodded. He’d get the hang of it all yet.

Jared knew that the Force ran in his family, and saw first hand what it could do, both in a fighter and during special operations the Wing undertook. Fighting for freedom and to bring the true power of the Empire they once represented to the people. They linked everyone into one fighting force. The Imperial Knights were going to be a force to be reckoned with.

Turning at the same time that Davin did, Jared was ready to salute, but he needed to remember to separate the two pieces of his side. Keying in on the woman’s form, something he was able to do from afar, visual scanning and tracking as his father had taught him, Jared nodded.

So, joint training? Jared could deal with this, even if he had to compete with Davin. Though competition wasn’t what he was here for. Everyone grew in the Force at their own rate according to his father. That was fine, he was going to be bringing his abilities to the Imperial Knights. And that was what mattered.

Even if it was different from what he was used to. Cadets making lightsabers? Apprentice and Padawans didn’t create them that early, did they? Still, it was something. And the tools were all going to be in place. “The lightsaber, of course.” Jared said, more in passing, and to fill space. Jared took a beep breath before finding his seat. Now was the time to get serious.

The Grand Admiral took a seat as offered by Master Verik, rolling up the sleeves to his grey utility uniform and preparing to start. "Okay, I'm ready." He cocked a gaze over to the adjacent desk which Jared occupied, "And he is too."
Master Verik closed in to stand between them, strolling back and forth to observe both of their progress into its creation. "You will see several things. The first is the grey hilt, signifying the Imperial Knights' unity with the balanced side of the Force. Alongside the hilt will sit a standard silver synthetic crystal, a single blade emitter shroud, a power cell, internal wiring components, and.." she popped up an eyebrow for one of the Cadets to answer.
Davin glanced down at the instructions sheet that was sitting under his saber's components. A blue hand shifted some things to the side as he read in search for the missing part. "The, uh..focusing core."
"Correct." Kayla Levik nodded in approval. "You may begin. Use the instructions pad for directions or consult me. Let your feelings and thoughts flow forth, I will assist you with telekinesis if you need it."

The Grand Admiral nodded, focusing on the Master's last words. Let your feelings and thoughts flow forth. That was mighty peculiar, but it was the Force. As a Chiss, they didn't tend to let their emotions show that much, a very accurate assumption to Davin's personality.

He sighed, adjusted in his seat again, and prepared to start. Master Levik mentioned something about telekinesis which was moving things or changing the environment with your mind. Crazy stuff, but the Force could do anything. Welp, if anybody else could do it, Davin sure as could too. He closed his shimmering red eyes, stretching out with that tiny presence he could always feel within himself. He felt the Master behind him, pacing back and forth, the Imperial Cadet in the next table, and the components on the table. A smooth channel of air came out of his pursed lips as he relaxed, visualizing the hilt of the lightsaber lifting from the ground.

"Very good, Davin."

It was in the air, levitating a few inches above the desk. The Chiss's recently opened eyes furthered in surprise at his deed. It was marvelous. In his bewilderment, he lost focus and the grey hilt dropped back down onto the table with a thunk. A tight, wolfish smile spread across Davin's face as he craned his neck down to review the next steps in lightsaber creation. This was going to be fun.

Extremely fun.

Maybe it was respect that made Jared silent, he wasn’t so sure. There was a Master Imperial Knight and the Grand Admiral in the same vincinity as he. It would be less embarrassing to call it respect, instead of awe. Living on the Star Destroyer was nice, but it made him very lacking in the ways of the world at times.

He nodded when Davin informed that he was ready. Once things were underway, Jared would snap into the Force and what he was supposed to be doing, he hoped. Looking over the items gathered, as he started to quantify each in his mind, extending his concentration to try to engulf the pieces. He had seen all this before, was taught by his father how to reach to each piece in the Force, to welcome it and accept it.

That was something he had done with the viridian focusing crystal his father had supplied him. See, that was the other thing, he had learned a bit of the basics, but nothing too major. No matter how much the elders in his Wing wanted to keep him and the others in his generation sheltered from the Force, some things were inevitable and Jared knew a touch of telekinesis. Nothing world moving, but the same as he did with how to connect to those closest to him.

Reaching out with his feelings, he could feel the pieces of the lightsaber, and the strong presences nearby, the Master and the Grand Admiral, and everything he was. Extending his feelings into a cone at the focusing crystal, something he was more familiar with he let the tension in his shoulders fall away as he nudged it. Soon it was released to him as he pulled it to his hand, closing his fingers around the silver crystal as he heard the hilt fall to the table. Right, next step was two pieces at once. Baby steps.

With what little progress he'd made before, the Chiss had already made up for that with his intense concentration on the work. It'd been almost thirty minutes already and the Admiral was working up a little sweat in his utility uniform, soft beads of sweat dribbling down his indigo skin and onto his collar. He was almost finished.

"Very nicely done, Cadet Starchaser."

Urk. He was catching up as well. There was no way that Davin would finish last. If his book, if you weren't first then you were last. It had always been like this, ever since the Chiss Academy days when he arose to the top of his ranks in his entire class. He couldn't be beaten, not in any given situation as his weakness would show in any event that that happened.

He intensified his efforts, snapping the blade emitter shroud into place before finishing up the last components before finally placing the crystal into it.

Jared had been around the Force all his life, even if he wasn’t doing much with it. And by much, it was only what he and the other younglings aboard the ship found themselves playing with. And that broke into pranks, really. So, telekinesis, probably one of the most useful skills for anyone using the Force.

Sure, this was a competition, but it wasn’t. Jared just didn’t want to look less than the best in the eyes of the Admiral. Maybe this wouldn’t affect his standing behind the controls of a fighter, but still, opinions mattered. And he was a child of a Force user, sure, his father was somewhere between a Jedi and a Sith, a Dark Jedi, really, but it was just that the end justified the means. That was a slippery slope, but never did it creep into his mind that anyone on the Star Destroyer he lived aboard was expressly evil.

As for the competition, there were no points for second place, but so long as you could keep your brothers and sisters in arms alive? That was all that mattered. He closed his eyes, working more from feel and instinct as he screwed on the cap after having put in the power cell. Just the crystal, and it was finished. Placing the hilt on the table, he opened his eyes, looking between Master Verik and Davin.

The Grand Admiral kept up his steady pace, clicking sockets into place, lining internal wiring, and adjusting the power coupling to maintain the power levels by the bottom-facing power cell. There was nothing that could stop this level of concentration, the sheer amount of snapping pieces into perfect place was mechanical in nature. Like a well-oiled machine, only destruction could stop such a thing.

Apparently, the same went for his fellow Cadet. Above his own intensity of manufacturing the perfect weapon, he could hear Jared's components snapping into place as well. Almost in time with his own, it was as if it happened exactly at the same time. Everytime the Chiss sped up, he did as well.

From behind him, Davin couldn't help but hear a poorly hidden amused snort from Master Levik. It was like she was watching something entertaining on HoloVision. To be frank, Davin wasn't here to entertain. He was here to carry on his legacy and fulfill his dream of freeing his people to grant them prosperity and peace. With that exact goal in mind, his concentration nearly tripled and his efforts never slowed one bit. Each piece flowed as if it were an extension of his very will. And, a minute later, he was finished. The silver crystal was the last piece of this grey puzzle.

"Well look at that. You both finished at the very exact time." Master Levik remarked.
Remaining polite, Davin had to ask. "And what does that mean, Master?"
"You both delved from each other's strength and power in order to complete the task at hand. In other words: you both will be very close in the future."

The Grand Admiral sighed, hoping to slow down his labored breathing and regain that steady flow of blood throughout his body. He tugged at the collar to loosen it some and cocked a gaze over at @[member="Jared Starchaser"]. Crimson eyes bore into blue eyes with an intense amount of acknowledgement and respect. His head tilted at his in respect before he turned back to Master Levik.

"So, what's next?"
Master Kayla Levik smiled. "Let's go try your new weapons out."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And about half an hour later, Davin , Jared, and Master Levik found themselves in a nearby training arena in an octagonal shape. Davin and Jared are both dressed in tight-fitting training armor that it lightweight and Master Levik has toned down both sabers' intensity to that of a training blade.
A lightsaber was definitely different than working the electrical and weapons systems of a starfighter. It wasn’t that he didn’t know how to do this, but he had the training for the latter two, not this. This was new, and he was trusting instinct. Something he wasn’t used to doing without adrenaline flowing through him.
With the Force flowing, he could feel @[member="Davin"] and where he was. Jared was getting tunnel vision, he could feel it. The more he worked, the more the lightsaber became the only thing he was worried on. That was typically a death sentence. Once his saber was done, he was focusing on the room again.
Dangerous, that focus.
“Suppose that’ll be a good thing, if you’re flying my starfighters into combat.” Jared smirked. Despite any tone that may have sounded sarcastic, there was a lot of truth to it. The tone was a result of the mental exhaustion from using the Force for such an extended amount of time. This was going to take some getting used to. It was just good to know someone he could trust was going to be giving the orders.
Did the galaxy know what they were going to be experiencing?
They were going to try out the weapons now? Did Jared know what he was going to be experiencing? No, his weapon was going to be fine. He was the son of a Dark Jedi, after all. He’d make it. Granted, he wasn’t going to be tearing random enemy targets that were not making the galaxy a safe place for noble ideal. Or maybe he was? Were his family’s mission and his new Imperium’s mission on track? That would be something.
-------------------
Training armor, really, armor in general, were things Jared was going to have to get used to. He’d seen the Imperial Knights walking in the much coveted and wanted nothing more than to earn that. He would, he knew it. Just as he’d earned his wings. He was going to get there.
Looking over at Davin, and then at Master Levik, before rolling the hilt of his blade over and again before clicking the blade to life with the well know snap-hiss and subsequent hum of the laser sword. “So, Master Levik. My uh… skills, they’re more in a starfighter, you’re going to walk us through some of this? Right?”
And they were ready in the training hall, equipped with their recently created sabers and tight fitting armor. He and Jared Starchaser wore a simpler, grey version of the Imperial Knight armor. It felt a little weird to be wearing body armor, but he'd have to get used to it if he was ever going to be a successful Imperial Knight within the order. Granted, his fleet duties always came first, but having extra training in the gift he'd received upon birth and additional skills was more than welcomed.
But he had to think about the present. Cadet Starchaser had already ferried questions to Master Levik who stood at the center of the room, her own silver saber in hand. "Yes, I will." She assumed a stance, activated her saber, and began to instruct both Cadets for the next hour. Her movements were swift and flowing while the new recruits both quickly caught on but had much to learn and refine. "Work as a team." That was the primary fundamental when using Praetoria Vonil or Praetoria Ishu, the respective offensive and defensive forms of the Imperial Knights.
Master Levik had narrowed down the basics of lightsaber combat with the pair, working up a sweat and steeling their minds and bodies for the upcoming test.
"Are there any questions before we begin the final phase?"
"Not from me, I'm ready."
He wanted the actual armor so badly. The red armor he had seen walking through the ranks of the military. It was what he was here for. The lightsaber, that was something different, it always was for him. He grew up around them, and as such they weren’t that foreign or something that was revered. Not like that armor. Jared knew he had it in him to become a solid Imperial Knight, add that to his piloting, and he was going to be a dangerous asset.
There had been a bit of military hand to hand in his life growing up, and that made a big deal here. His father had laid down a lot of the ground work for what would become his skill set in the future, as soon as he found an instructor. The lightsaber still was a sight, and the feeling of something he created in his own hands, being used with how he could move his body, to be used for such a higher purpose, he couldn’t think of anything better.
Trying to control his breathing, the pilot looked up to his Master and comrade. “I’m ready.” He nodded, before shaking his head to clear his thoughts and refocusing himself.
"Draw your weapons, Cadets."
A dual snap-hiss of ignition rang about the training area. A pair of gleaming silver blades aligned with matching grey armor converged on the Master. The tension in the air was practically visible, probably even as thick as the moisture hanging in the air from their recent training exercises.
"What now?" The Grand Admiral barely felt like asking the question, but something was needed to break the silence.
"Attack."
As if on cue, the Chiss lunged forward with his slate blade, dragging the new creation through the air with precision in a quick horizontal slash at Master Levik. Metallic-hue met metallic-hue as the sabers clashed together, cracking off energy about the room. "Come on, Starchaser!" Davin cried as he blocked a swift lunge. "We take her together!"
He didn’t need to be told twice to activate his weapon. He looked over the silver blade with a bit of reverence. Okay, maybe the lightsaber was always going to be something special. Taking a breath, he was waiting for the next step of the training. They had done enough training where he knew what his body was capable of. And with Davin speaking the words he was thinking, Jared turn his attention from his blade to the Master in front of him.
Attack? Of course. Stepping up and breaking his frozen position, Jared was already moving to back his Admiral up. He knew that Davin could handle himself, but they were a team, they were going to be cleansing the galaxy together, they were going to learn how to work as a team.
Spinning the blade in his hand and readying himself when Davin’s call came, the Starchaser nodded. His first swing came from his left, to Levik’s right, his lightsaber caught on the Master’s and Jared was able to hold her until @[member="Davin"] came back in. And then he was tossed away. Right, the Force, that played a role here in hand to hand combat.
"Focus!"
The cry came right in front of Davin as Master Levik shouted at him, crashing her blade down across his and sending him scrambling backwards. Before she could make another strike - or even think about it - Starchaser swooped in with his own barrage of attacks to defend the quickly recovering Grand Admiral.
Davin was grateful for the save, but it was only for a quick second as Jared was shoved away. Shoved away...? "The Force!" Davin snarled, his focus on the battle. "We use it!" For a brief moment as Master Levik pounded on Jared, the Admiral shot his arm out to make a go for Levik's leg and pull it out from under her. It was a little tug at first before he poured his being into it and shifted her leg, only to be met by her own stretched out hand and thrown across the training room.
"Feth!" The man growled, crashing against the floor and stumbling to rise and sprint off into the duel once again.
There was going to have to be something that Jared and Davin could do. They were on a team here, they were working for the same task. He had seen the Force users from him home ship doing a Force meld before, how they didn’t need to speak and they just acted. And that was what could happen here, what the Imperial Knights could do. Meld and act as one unit.
He at least had the foresight to stop his lightsaber as he was thrown across the room. Getting himself back up, he shook his head to clear his mind. Calling the Force to him, he looked over at the Admiral and nodded. They could start to act as one as Jared reached out to Davin through the Force. They would balance one another.
Running in to Levik, and his lightsaber going for a high diagonal slash, the Imperial Cadet was just hoping that Davin would be able to balance the slash in an effort to catch Levik off her guard.
With a fluid motion, Davin surged forward from his fallen back stance at Master Levik in conjunction with Jared. Something had changed, the atmosphere no longer felt like some normal duel as Levik's motions had sped up and real effort were placed into her blows. It was a miracle that neither of the Cadets had been struck with her saber, but the pair was absolutely nowhere near scoring a blow on her.
Davin caught a glimpse of Levik's face before another sweeping slash was sent his way. A twinkle. The Chiss frowned as he ducked, saving the skin on his neck from a bruise by nearly two inches. It wasn't himself that had allowed that quick of a reaction, he felt empowered. His focus zeroed in on their Master and he caught the nod from Jared. That's right, coordinate. And Starchaser moved in for the kill. His fellow Cadet pulled forward with a left to right diagonal slash.
He huffed and closed in on Starchaser's right, pushing himself into a lower stance and throwing up his own similar styled slash in the opposite direction. Everything seemed precise, there was no way they could lose.
There was a fine line, in Jared’s mind, between winning and not dying. Sure, it couldn’t be counted if one wasn’t shot down, or hit with the saber, that was just surviving, it was stalling. It wasn’t winning, but in some corners it was. Jared knew the difference here; he knew what was going to happen if they didn’t turn the tide. Someone was going to lose.
And it probably wasn’t Master Levik.
The Force was moving, and he could feel Davin right there. He knew the Force could connect people, and it was new for him, to be experiencing this. It was the way to win, if two minds could act and react as one, it was going to turn the tide anywhere. That was what happened with his father’s Wing before the Fel.
Bringing his saber down, he caught it on Master Levik’s and was pushing against her, reaching into the Force for more assistance. He could feel @[member="Davin"] near, and was hoping that this was going to turn the tide. If they could get first blood, that would go a long way.
There was no way the pair of Cadets could just lose. Especially with Master Levik saying the two had been the best Cadets she'd ever trained. Not that she said that verbally, it was just mere body language and the Force. Davin could tell and he was quite sure that Starchaser could feel it too.
There was no pride in coming in second place or losing. Whether he did it himself, it did not matter. As long and the Admiral and his subordinates won, that was the only thing he needed. The Chiss gritted his teeth down as the twirling wind of three silver sabers flew forth in a frenzy of combat.
The Grand Admiral felt that little twinge in the Force as his own blade was shoved free and Starchaser came to bear of a barrage of attacks. "Come on! Is this all you can do?!" Levik cried out, no doubt taking pleasure in the match. "Go for the kill." Davin growled under his breath as he shot past Jared, taking the brunt of the blows and barely managing to parry them.
If Master Levik wanted to, she could easily take the two cadets down. But not here, not now. The pair had to win. Davin and Jared weren’t just Force students, they were military men, both from military families. Fighting was what they did. Winning too. There were no points for second place.
While he knew that Davin and him were going to be a team for the ages, Jared couldn’t help but feel a little nervous. They were going after an Imperial Knight Master. This was going to be something that needed taking careful steps. His silver blade was up at the ready. Nodding to his companion after the Chiss spoke, Jared grinned.
This was what he was. Back in his former Wing, he flew with Peregrine, the squadron responsible for quick attacks, coming in fast and giving the enemy hell. With Davin moving in to take the brunt of the blows, Jared moved in unison, slashing and stabbing for Master Levik’s exposed flank, Not stopping until he felt a score.@[member="Davin"]
