Baller Whips [Jared, Dev Thread]

Annaj, the Capital of the Fringe Confederacy
Invictus Aeronautics and Sienar Fleet Systems Design and Construction Meeting...

Alen Na'Varro awaited @[member="Jared Ovmar"], Lord of the Fringe and associate of Santhe Corp, on the balcony. The controlling interest of Invictus Aeronautics was smoking like a chimney, of course, taking power draws out of his cigarette as he looked down at the city below. He exhaled, blowing a fountain of smoke out into the air and watching it dissipate. The newly-appointed Arbiter of the Fringe imagined an older doctor sitting him down, smiling, and saying Congrats retard, you have lung cancer. Shaking his head in disgust, Alen flicked the butt and settled onto the railing. He'd got Sienar to manufacture his Partisan-class cruiser design and they'd done a great job. He knew they'd be up to task with this. His baby. The biggest, sexiest ship he'd ever designed. And he'd be test-driving the prototype, once they got it made that is.

The conference room inside had all the holoprojectors and all the plans were uploaded and ready for viewing and discussion. Then they'd get started on her. The Redoubt, first of its class and a perfect foil for the deadly but vulnerable Isard-II. Watching civilian speeders passing by, Alen knew every single one of them would have preferred to be getting around in a big, sexy Star Destroyer. They were pretty baller whips.

When he had received a message from the CEO of Invictus Aeronautics, Jared had been intrigued. Their last cooperation had been a success, so needless to say.. Jared was interested in a further relationship with the company. Their CEO seemed a competent man, and was loyal to the Fringe Confederation.

You could never have enough loyal men, it seemed that these days there was a shortage. People betrayed their family, kin and friend, for nothing more than petty revenge, monetary gain and the such. Bad time to live in this sick galaxy.

But some people made profits of such strive, and Jared had to admit that he was one of them. War profiteers they were called, men who turned a profit every time a conflict escalated and got bloody. The Lord had learned to live with such a reputation. If it had not been his guns, or ships; it would have been someone else.

His company gave him power and authority, this was important. It gave him the possibility of changing the Galaxy, molding it into something else. Maybe, he was just overreaching, but it seemed an important thing to remember. That he -did- something good, charities were supported and children were fed.

Such was his musings as the Lord of the Fringe stepped inside of Invictus's office. Seemingly Alen had done well for himself, he sat down in the Atrium and waited silently for someone to call him up.

- A Lord Ovmar to see you, sir. -

- Send him up. -

Of course, Na'Varro had stepped down as CEO of Invictus Aeronautics to take control of the company from outside of the public eye, but it was recent news so Ovmar wouldn't know that as yet. The bearded man, drawing closer to middle-age but still in excellent shape despite his plethora of bad habits, let the balcony door slide open and stepped inside. He stood still for a second, as if sensing the far corners of the room for traps. He stood just under six feet and years of Dark Side usage had tinged his hair to a reddish-brown, aging his facial features somewhat. Today he wore a casual black suit, tailor-made of course. At a younger age he wouldn't have cared for such things, but he was starting to find an appreciation for the finer things in life. A well-fitting suit ... well, a snug fit induced the same range of emotions as freshly-ground caf. All of them muted but positive.

The room suited Alen's eye, with charcoals and greys the prevalent colours. Nodding, he clicked a remote and the table in front of him rearranged itself into a large holoprojector, with the Redoubt's schematics projected in a vibrant, light blue three-dimensional model. A pretty, blonde young assistant stood by in anticipation of Ovmar's arrival, and Na'Varro took a seat casually by the holoprojector as he waited.

Within a couple of minutes, the lift doors opened and Na'Varro turned to greet his guest.

"Ovmar, welcome." Na'Varro rose and smiled, met Jared's eyes assuredly and held out his hand to shake as the pretty assistant waited to accept the Lord of the Fringe's coat. "Alen Na'Varro. It's good to finally meet you."

The Arbiter assessed his guest, as he did with everyone he met. He didn't glean much, however. The man was a veritable mystery. Ashin spoke for him, however, so Na'Varro knew that he had quite a bit of worth to the Fringe, at least. Indicating that Ovmar should take a seat, Na'Varro did likewise.

"Can I offer you a drink? My assistant ..." Ara? Lara? Arya? Damn it. "Aria knows how to pour Corellian scotch, at least."

Then they'd get down to business, which was what Alen was really looking forward to. He was a business-minded kind of man. Good for him.

As Jared strode into the room, it was clear the man was one to be reckoned with. He looked over the room, and then headed over to the man of the hour. The lad who wished to make a gigantic spaceship, with his beginning company.

Alen had quickly made a name out of himself during his short time at the Fringe. Seemingly his business sense was a good one too, with the quickness the company was expanding. Jared wondered if he should try and buy it off him. Might be worth the trouble.

Then again.. he did not really think Alen would be interested. He ain't the man who liked to lose control, even if there was a lot of cash involved. Didn't look like the man was devoid of that either way.

He shook his hand, and then gave over his jacket to the girl. Pretty petite thing, as he gave it to her their hands touched and the girl blushed. Oh.. this might become a good day after all. Jared winked at her, and then went over to look at the projection that the man had already set up for them.

“Well met, Na'Varro. Let's drink after we make plans for this ship of yours, this is it I assume?”

A feint smile appeared on his lips, as Alen did not even seem to know his own assistant's name. Iara. The name formed itself in her head, but she never said a word. Poor little thing.

Na'Varro had heard that Ovmar had an eye for the ladies ... and now he knew for sure. Thank the Force for ... Aria, and her inherent ability to bring out the lothario side of a man's personality. Alen didn't have any ulterior motives here, or any advantage to gain over the Lord of the Fringe, or even the desire to do so. He did like to know what made a man tick, however. It seemed that he and [member="Jared Ovmar"] would be working together a lot in the future, and it paid to have even a base-level understanding of his tastes and preferences. Anyhow ... the ship, and the holoprojection that hovered in the middle of the room. It was a detailed schematic, and very handsome to look at. Invictus spent a decent amount of dosh on sexy presentation technology.

"This is the one." Na'Varro moved towards the holoprojector, standing next to Ovmar as he gave a rundown. The ship schematics began rotating slowly in mid-air. "The Redoubt. First of the Obstinate-class command ship. Equipped with reinforced hull plating, advanced deflector shield technology, heavy guns and a gravity well projector. This will be the Fringe Fleet's premier tank."

Poor Iara... even now she was crying from the inside at the disgrace. Her own boss.. did not know her name, it was a cruel fate that had resigned her to work with such an apathy-filled man. Jared made a mental-note to himself to persuade the lass to work for him, 1-0 for the Lord of the Fringe.

It was not a big secret that he loved his women, it was a plain fact and one Jared did not try to hide. Why try? With the NPC action he was getting... well everyone would know by now.

But oh well, then the Alen started to talk business, and Jared switched.

“Costs?”
If there was one thing for sure, it was that Jared cut straight to the chase.

Alen wasn't even thinking about the poor girl. He was a busy man ... after this business meeting, he was off to glass Vortusa or one of its largest moons, then he had to be back by eight to pick Kitt up, then he had to be up by six the next morning for training ... busy, busy man. Life was so hard, but so good.

"Costs are high." Na'Varro did not beat around the bush. "I'm not one to sacrifice expenditure for quality. In terms of production, this is one of the most expensive Star Destroyers currently in any stage of development. Luckily, the Fringe is already lined up as a buyer. It just needs to be manufactured. This ship is designed to command fleets from the main line of battle, and it can do it. It'll require large expenditure to create, but the profits will be there in the end, and the Fringe will gain much from having a ship like this in its fleet."

Striding around to the other side of the holo-projection, Na'Varro eyed Ovmar.

"Any design flaws you can see?"

The ship was going to be expensive, that was for sure. But then again, it was going to be one of a kind and that made Jared wonder quite a bit. Why use Dura and Transparisteel, the costs were already off the charts – adding a bit more could not hurt.

Besides that, there was one more question Jared had.

“Why sacrifice the gun and dropship capabilities for a Gravity Well? We have a dedicated interdictor already for fleet engagements, and the moment the Redoubt finds itself alone in a battle? Is the moment its lost.”

Jared frowned, as he thought it over.

“Secondly, it's an unique ship. Use alusteel and glasteel for the hull and the viewports, more expensive but at this point worrying about the costs?” he shrugged. “seems to be a non-issue.”

[member="Alen Na'Varro"]

"You're absolutely right." Na'Varro nodded, and cancelled the holoprojection in front of them. He brought up another one. This one was slightly smaller, and with a slightly altered armament. Alusteel and glasteel were used as manufacturing materials, and there was no gravity well. The Penumbra-class stealth interdictors had forced Invictus to come up with a new design. But the meat of the Redoubt remained. Reinforced hull, advanced shields, and a heavy hitting weapons load out.

"This is a secondary design. I have a feeling that stealth technology might be a good fit for a unique command ship, if I can get my hands on the materials. Cloaking devices are not easy to come by."

Again my eyes ran down the lines of the design, it was a beauty. This time though, I didn’t have much in the way of criticism. A stealth-based heavy hitting ship? It was an interesting thought, you could engage stealth, slink your way behind the enemy lines and dish out some major damage.

When they finally arrive to investigate, you are already gone. Terrifying concept, if you thought about it.

Still, there were a few additions to be made.

“I’d suggest a Gravitic Modulator, Thrust Trace Dampers, and maybe a modified engine compatible with TibannaX. I have some contracts, getting the TibannaX shouldn’t be a problem.”
