This axe was once owned by Njal Kros, Lira's great-grandfather. It was said that he claimed the mighty mythosaur axe after defeating its wielder in battle. As such, the weapon's true origins are unknown. Njal Kros decided that this axe would become a sign of strength and bravery for his clan. And so, he named it Baldr. While Njal did continue to use the axe in battle, over time it became a ceremonial weapon, especially as clansmen took to use modern weapons.
Baldr was kept above the family hearth as a constant reminder of their ability to persevere and thrive on Kalevala. Until one night, when it was taken from its place by a teenage Talos Kros. He weilded the axe with impressive might and used it to defend himself during a drunken battle. By this time, the axe was quite old and the wooden haft brittle with age and wear. Young Talos ended up cracking the haft in two, and quickly stashed it away out of sight and into a wooden trunk... where it would remain until he had a child of his own.
Lira Kros grew up with only the broken remains of the mythosaur axe, but she heard and remember each story where it had been mentioned. As such, when she became betrothed to Jor Kvall, Alor of Clan Kvall, Lira began to hatch a plan. She would make it her duty to restore the axe to its former glory, to make it a new symbol of their bond, and the bond that their two clans now shared.
The calcified bones of the mythosaur were still intact, even after all this time they were sharp and deadly as ever. So, Lira designed a new elongated haft that would be forged in Beskar to give the weapon a new life, making it possible to defend against weapon strikes. Once this was complete, the bones were attached to the top, keeping the original fan shape that was so well-known for this type of axe. And when it was finished, the words “blood of my blood” were engraved on the haft.
