Bacta Reality (Jared)

Two of the largest corporations in the galaxy. The main meeting was going to be...astronomical, but this sort of thing required multiple concurrent meetings from multiple specialized functionaries. This particular meeting was the most important one. It was also fairly private.

The facts were simple enough. When the Sith Empire went down, Consolidated Bacta, Ltd. suffered a couple of...issues. For one thing, one of its owners, Kaine Zambrano by name, had been arrested as a war criminal. Silk had quietly assimilated his Consolidated assets, and, in the period of turmoil, taken custodianship of all Consolidated assets around the critical bacta world of Verkuyl.

Including some Santhe assets, as Santhe owned 33% of Consolidated. So all these meetings were basically just to...clear the air.

The woman who met Jared was a longtime Silk employee with Consolidated experience, one who'd been with Jorus and Alna since the Vagrant Fleet. Otherwise, a no-name.

When he had taken over Santhe Corporation in all but name, the first thing he did was go through the books. Figure out what kind of operations the Corporation was running, where the money came from and what kind of contracts were established. Basically he wished to know how the company ticked. During the countless hours he had spent in the archives, there were a couple of anomalies revealed. One of them was the contract with Silk Holdings and one Kaine Zambrano, former Sith Emperor. Seemingly Santhe Corp. had been the proud owner of 33% of the shares of a lucrative establishment, that is until the dissolution of the Sith Empire.

After that things had become.. fuzzy. Seemingly Silk Holdings had assumed direct control over Consolidated Bacta, Ltd. Now the fact of the matter was that Jared did not really care about the shares of the Sith Emperor, he had been arrested and as such his faith had been sealed. Now.. the faith of the Santhe shares was another matter all together.

This was the main reason they would be meeting today, reaffirm the old contract and maybe figure out some new partnerships that could be lucrative for both companies.

"Charmed, the name is Jared Ovmar. Lady Ventus, I pressume?"

This was the quiet meeting, the private meeting. Others could sign things elsewhere, but in this room, the people who made the decisions had their talk.

"Miz Ventus will do, Lord Ovmar. Welcome to Verkuyl." She smiled. It didn't quite reach her eyes. "As Confederation leadership, if not as long-term Santhe stakeholder, I'm sure you've been to this world before once or twice. It takes a few months before you get used to the alazhi smell."

Any in-depth, partner-level understanding of Silk Holdings would reveal that Jorus and Alna Merrill had always left the vast majority of Silk's running up to professionals and full-time specialists. Vagrant Fleet types like Selka were essential to running Outer Rim trade, and Selka had been on the payroll in more than a few positions -- including significant experience with Consolidated. She was a minor but known name.

"Silk is about to be under new management, Lord Ovmar. We'd like to clear the air. Silk is about to make a limited IPO, and you'd be afforded a preferential rate. A subsidized rate, so as to not throw off our stock price." An IPO was an initial public offering -- a portion of Silk's shares going public. The largest privately held corporation in the universe. It'd be a feeding frenzy. If Ovmar signed, he'd make money hand over fist on the apology.

That caught Jared's attention, some part of him had wondered how they would meet him. He had not been expecting such a.. generous offer, even after their breach of contract. But say one thing about the Lord of the Fringe, say he never looks a gifted horse in the mouth. Still, being cautious was never a sin, as such he kept his face clear of any emotions. Instead he nodded.

"Interesting, you mention a limited IPO. What is the exact limit?"

"The exact portion of the company that will be part of the IPO is currently secret, but a subsidized rate for the initial purchase would give you an edge for purchasing and selling stock out of that IPO. I daresay a good few other bidders will be purchasing stock from the IPO as well -- Czerka has expressed an interest, for one. You're currently one of the only people outside the company to know an IPO is coming. That forewarning is an advantage in and of itself."

"That is fair. Now.. not that I do not appreciate the fine gesture, but let us talk about the main reason why we are here. Consolidated Bacta Ltd. I am not a man who holds grudges, nor do I care to make any grand gestures to prove points. How does Silk Holdings want to approach this?"

He was happy to let her lead the meeting for now, there was no reason to hold a measuring contest. In the end they were both here for their own interests, holding back could prove to be a prudent course of action.

The Firrerreo shrugged. "As I said, Lord Ovmar, decision-making is being restructured. Legally, no property changed hands. Operations on Verkuyl are, and always have been, run exclusively by Silk employees seconded to Consolidated. Bacta distribution continued as normal. We simply assumed primary responsibility for decision-making while Sasha Santhe was...indisposed. But as we now own sixty-seven percent of the corporation, obviously the old arrangement for decision making is obsolete. In order to fix the current situation, all you have to do is...show up. We continue to run things, you continue to distribute our collective product, you reap the rewards of being a significant minority shareholder."

Jared nodded resolute, there was not much more to do. Some part of him wished to ask about the shares of Zambrano, maybe split them. That would have been fair, no? But chances of that were slim at best, better call it a day when you are up in the game. Being able to get into Silk Holdings was already an interesting opportunity. Besides, there was a lot that could happen, might be someday he would be in a position to... enforce certain things. But that was all up in the air for now.

"I have been through the papers and decided it would be best if the interests of Santhe are protected by a detachment of our Security Forces. Rest assured that we will no longer be neglecting our duties, Santhe Corporation takes this venture very serious. It is also my hope that this will be a restart of a lucrative partnership."

"That's been your right since day one," said Selka. "I'm glad to see that Santhe is getting...more fully engaged in the work, shall we say. Not that your distribution venues haven't been significant. Your security forces will be more than welcome on Verkuyl, and I'd suggest a permanent orbital defensive presence as well."

Jared Ovmar, Lord of the Fringe, Secret owner of Santhe Corporation and... a sucker for ladies, nodded in agreement and regarded the girl in front of him. Oh... if Jared only knew.. but this was the real world and the Lord did not and could not have the outside of character information that was necessary to save him from this situation.

As such.. he just coughed softly, put him his best smile and then said the dooming words of... well doom.

“Agreed. Now.. I think we are about done here. This might be a bit forward from me, but would you like to grab dinner sometime? I would like to get to know my future business-partner a bit better.”

And so it was that Jared Ovmar, “Ladies” man signed his own fate. Behold the reply.

Selka smiled warmly. "I fully agree, Lord Ovmar, and since you've spent so much time with me already, it's only fair you get to know my partner, the other half of Silk. Aldiel D'Lessio would be happy to meet you for dinner. I promised to meet my spouse for dinner tonight, but Aldiel would love the company."
