Approved Tech B1-TM3 Countermeasures Package

Intent: To create a concrete, canon-grounded countermeasures package, as most canon countermeasures are either overpowered game tech or vague
Development Thread: No
Manufacturer: Iron Crown Productions
Model: B1-TM3 Countermeasures Package
Affiliation: Lords of the Fringe
Modularity: No
Production: Mass-produced
Material: Electronics
Description: Based on ancient missile deactivation transmitters, anti-ordnance EM probes, and large sensor jammers, the B1-TM3 Countermeasures Package is designed to provide ships of the wall and dedicated ECM vessels with a reliable option against massed warhead fire. It is also suitable as a defensive emplacement on ground facilities.

The B1-TM3 combines a bank of missile deactivation transmitters and a set of missile targeting sensor jammers. When targeted by operators of the B1-TM3, warheads have the potential to become inert or take wildly divergent courses, sometimes both. The success rate is proportional to the strength of other friendly countermeasures.

Limitations of the design include an effective range of one kilometre, and a need for manned, though partially automated, targeting based on high-powered, dedicated targeting sensors, including visible-spectrum sensors. Manned targeting reduces the unit's vulnerability to enemy ECM. Furthermore, some forms of warhead will still explode on impact regardless of deactivation, and if a suddenly unguided warhead is not evaded, it may still impact the target vessel. Unguided warheads, such as unguided cluster missiles, many mass driver projectiles, and energy torpedoes, are not affected by the B1-TM3. Furthermore, Fringe HELIX warheads, which generally detonate farther than one kilometre from their targets, are entirely unaffected by the B1-TM3.

The B1-TM3 unit can target five warheads at a time, though subgroups of massed warhead fire, or 'lines' of sequentially released warheads, may all be affected by a single jamming beam. The B1-TM3 is equivalent to 5 point-defense/quad laser batteries, and cannot be installed on any warship smaller than a heavy cruiser (apart from dedicated ECM ships).
