It was a sunny day in Freyonne, Auberllon, but Alan wasn't having it.
Too long had he experienced oppresion, what with the weekly "donations" from his farm to either one of the planets factions, the Phantoms of Freedom, and their tyrannical governers, pfft more like raids!
Alan was a usually quiet, and calm person. He had gotten that from his father, who had worked very secretively as a rebel, even after settling down with children, he continued to rebel against oppresion. his father was Alans hero, but he had become ill... He and his mother both.
Alan knew they had little time left, and had remembered his fathers instructions when he was little, as they were building their prize and joy, in secret of course, Paddock's Liberty, a small spaceship just big enough with enough fuel and power to hopefully get them somewhere safe. Alans instructions were to take himself, and his estranged brother Vance away from the planet if things became hopeless.
And they were, people were uncovering Avons actions in the rebellion, and it would take little to no time for them to take brute and swift action, possibly on the whole family.
So yes, it was a sunny day, but oppression loomed on Alan's fathers farm, and he knew it was time to go.
He set off to the capital of Atigneax to meet his brother Vance, with whom he would escape to a new planet. He had lived with Vance the first ten years of his life, but he moved into the slums when the family could no longer, after a week of raids, afford to feed one of the children. As Vance was older, merely fourteen, he took it on himself to leave.
"Just get Vance, find your ship, get out of here" Alan told himself repeatedly, on the hours long walk to the capital.
After an exhausting morning, he arrived in the slums, staying clear away from the Capitol Wall, that is where trouble loomed for peasants who dare crossed in. Eventually he found the address Vance had mailed to them via bird six or so years ago. Those two years were horrible, not knowing where his brother was.
"Just get Vance, find your ship, get out of here" Alan said, knocking on the door softly, so he would be known not to be an elite, they never cared to keep quiet, and not a Phantom, as they had codes far too complex for Alan to care about. Eventually, Vance was heard shifting to the door, he opened the door, and saw his brother.
Alan smiled and waved at him. Dread flooded through Alan as his brother frowned, and his brow furrowed unexpectedly, he looked enraged before yanking Alan inside the room, and slamming the door shut.
Alan went to speak but was interrupted by Vance, who said, "Are you an idiot? Why would you come here??"
Alan was shocked, and insulted, "I came to pick you up of course! The parents have fallen ill, and per fathers instructi-" he began indignantly before being interrupted again by Vance, "I don't care!! You three gave me up long ago! I have found other ways of staying alive"
Alan was beginning to tear up, this was too much to be true, "You are full of crap Vance, what the heck is going on? And what do you mean other means? We sent you money to live until you got a job!"
"Now come with me, brother, it's time to go!" Alan told, but sounding like begging
Vance looked even angrier, before slapping his brother, "I AM NOT COMING WITH YOU"
Alan was in disbelief, his brother had always been a little pushy, but he never hit him with anger! "What the hell are you doing!" Alan yelled as one word, "Come with me, we have to go, they found out about Dad!!"
Vance's eyes went blank, "I joined the army."
Alan was terrified, "what???", "Why????" he questioned
Vance looked at Alan, "I found that I was fond of fighting, and hated being part of your family."
Alan almost cried, he choked up and his eyes watered, "Please Vance, we can put all this behind us , let us leave together"
Vance looked almost sad for a moment, almost, "No. And you are not leaving"
"What do you mean--?" Alan began as Vance smacked him in the face with a bottle, leaving a big red mark on his face
"What the Hell?!!?" he yelled, as Vance smacked him again, grabbing his feet, and draging him outside
"Why a-are y-you doing this??" he said utterly shocked
"Because I hate you, and mother, and father, they gave me up, Alan, they loved you more. Let's see how they like you being tortured in prison"
At this point Alan's instincts kicked in, he started yelling (which was probably stupid, the oppresors were everywhere, and could easily have heard him) and kicking his brother.
It was nothing though, Vance had grown so much stronger in his time served. He kicked Alan in the ribs once, wich was enough to make him lose his breath, and then threw him over his shoulder, and dragged him to the prison, yelling for all to here "We have a dissenter here!" as he dragged Alan to the Capitol wall, where he would surely be punished.
By now, Alan knew he had a new plan, "Leave Vance, find your ship, get out of here"
He had brought nothing with him but a canteen, he shrugged it off his back, and poured it down vances face, blinding, and choking him momentarily.
As Vance coughed twice, Alan threw his loosening arms, off, and jump-kicked off his brothers muscular shoulders, out of the embrace.
He began to run back to Freyonne, and made the mistake of looking back at Vance, there he saw many officers, wielding weapons, talking to Vance, as he told them the dissenter's location, right where Alan was going.
They would be faster, and possibly have transport as well. This was bad, he would never outrun them
Alan would have been left to fate if not for a nearby cart and trolley which was attached to some horses, the rich man riding was talking to another rich man about the "disgusting lifestock" around these parts.
No time for knowing your place, he quickly jumped up on the saddle, and pushed the fat man off, who fell like a pumpkin right on the ground, he let out a groan. Alan picked up his leads which had landed under him, it was a small struggle of it's own, but he managed to grab them free from under the mans belly.
He yanked them on the horses, "Sorry buddies" he thought, "I need to do this"
As expected they ran and bolted too.
He lead them all the way down to Freyonne, at this point there were some officers chasing on carts of their own, no need to pull out the big stuff, they were sure they could catch this peasant. besides, since the galactic republic left, those were becoming more and more rare and expensive. Didn't matter the government already owned them, they weren't gonna use them on him.
Still they had much faster horses.
After a stressful ride, and a few arrows flying past his head, he reached about 300 meters away from his farm, at this time they were right behind him, close enough to grab hold of his ride and kill him, or do things worse.
He knew he had to do something.. Oh NO. The man behind him was grabbing hold of the fabric shading him.
He reacted instantly, ripping it off, and from pure luck, it enveloped two of the four riders, and threw them under a blanket of bright colors, along with their horses.
He made it to the farm okay, he just hoped he could get to the somewhat close by forest patch, and retrieve his hidden spaceship, which was covered in leaves, and inside a small pit.
All would have been made worse, of course, because Alan was devestated to see his delirious father standing on the yard, shouting to him.
"Alan run! Alan run!"
Oh no this was bad, he shouted to his father to get inside and lock the doors, but he knew it was fruitless their locks had long ago been taken away by the governors.
The people smiled at the idea of killing a son in front of his father, they pulled out an arow, and amed it at Alans head, ready to shoot, when Avon yelled with no other options, "I AM THE WHITE RECLAIMER!"
Alan didn't know what this meant, but knew it was worse than he could imagine when the people riding to him looked shocked, then angry, then determined.
The governors switched their path to one of Avons, riding at him with weapons high. Alan would have done something but his father yelled with his last heard words "I love you Alan! You and Vance leave this hellhole! Dont come back! Wait- where is Va-" he was abrupted shortly by the men grabbing him by his feet, tying him up, brutalizing him, and riding him back to the capitol.
Alan was devastated,he had lost everything.
He continued on to leave. He eventualy reached the forest, and left the Horses outside. Quickly he found the ship, after many late night drills with his father, he knew the area by heart. Getting in the cockpit, and readying it for launch, he realised how little he knew about what to do, and how cold the ship was without someone there to be with.
ALAN LEAVES THE AUBERLLON SYSTEM, HEADING FOR SOMEWHERE NEARBY, WITH NEARLY NO LOCATION DEVICES, AND ZERO RESOURCES.
