Production: Minor
Material: Durasteel, turadium cockpit
Description:

The Animus-class, named after the aggressive masculine principle within the female unconscious, is a Sienar-influenced small transport/heavy starfighter design. It comes from Iron Crown Productions, the state-owned corporation which creates a portion of the military hardware in the territory owned by the Lords of the Fringe. It was specifically created as an incentive for ambitious and successful commanders, in keeping with Admiral Shira Karrde's traditional mode of leadership. Rather than give sector ownerships, planetary governorships and special titles, as when she led the Empire, she gives the Lords of the Fringe...toys. This is one such toy, a reward for exemplary results.

The Animus-class, with its slightly mobile wing/tail flap configuration, is highly suited to atmospheric combat. With the right wing/tail configuration and maximum effort from the repulsorlifts, it can stop on a dime. Its atmospheric speed is considerably higher than most space-capable vessels, as it prioritizes aerodynamics. Without deflector shields, it can reach 1,600kph; as such, it is a true-supersonic craft.

The pilot is encased in a sphere of turadium, an armor superior to durasteel, and commonly used in high-security blast doors and critical structural components. Turadium is somewhat lightsabre-resistant, and the entire cockpit sphere is highly durable, able to break away from the ship as an escape pod with its own small ion engine and repulsor/reentry capability.

Because of the highly modular nature of the ventral weapons pods, it is entirely possible for this ship to go unarmed. For example, when carrying several heavy warheads (Configuration Four, below) or a single tactical nuclear weapon, the vessel is defenseless.

It was during Iron Crown Intersteller's auction that Danger was the default winner of the Animus. For a lofty sum of credits, ATC agreed to continue to provide the Animus-class to the Fringe Confederation and is free to sell it on the open market.
