  • K-65 Targeting System (Firestorm and Maelstrom Only)
Maneuverability Rating: 16
Speed Rating: 1
Hyperdrive Class: None
Strengths:
  • Light Shielding: Except for the Gatecrasher, the Modular Drop Pod benefits from light shielding, something its predecessors did not.
  • Orbital Insertion: Its a drop pod, so it allows troops, or weapons, or ammunition to be delivered directly into the fight.
  • Shield Breaker: The Gatecrasher Variant is equipped with an Individual Field Disruptor to allow it to be delivered straight into enemy encampments.
Weaknesses:
  • Minimal Life Support: The Drop pod doesn't have an oxygen supply or anything like that, just an advanced temperature regulator to get it to the groud.
  • No Starfighter Capabilities: It has no anti-starfighter weapons. Once the drop starts, the Pod is on its own until it gets to the ground.
  • Minimal Guidance: A few minor course corrections can be made on the way in, but its like turning a Star Destroyer.
  • Immobile: Once on the ground, the drop pod doesn't have the power to move itself.
  • Unshielded: The Gatecrasher Variant is unshielded.
Description:
The ACS Modular Drop Pod is simple and built with the knowledge that the concept works. The concept has been tried and tested in dozens of battles and all ArmaTech had to do was play with the design to get what all they wanted out of it. The basic, standard model is no different from any other drop pod, carries Twelve Troopers, doesn't really steer more just falls out of the sky and then slows down just before impact. With Standard armor and a light deflector shield it can take a little punishment on the way to the surface, with carbon-carbide plating to survive re-entry and extreme temperatures.

What really drew ArmaTech to drop pods was the possibility of variants. Armed Variants. The Firestorm and Maelstorm models come equipped with three automated turrets controlled by a J2 Droid Brain from Hegemonic with a standard Droid Sensor and Photoreceptor array. Basically, once the drop pod comes in and pops open the droid operated turrets start blasting away at the enemy with either high rate of fire chain guns or missile launchers. Using the basic sensor array on the turrets they can determine friend and foe, and operate much like any Hegemonic Droid would, only the turrets are stationary and can only swivel.

The final variant is the Gatecrasher variant, swapping the light deflector shield array for an Individual field disruptor to cut through planetary shields, theater shields, and local area shields to put a reduced complement of eight troopers straight into the heart of the enemy. Having learned from Contruum, where Mandalorian troops had to storm a section of a shielded fortress and gain access to an underground fortress, ArmaTech gave these models drill heads and a Plasma-Jet Mining Laser allowing them to drop from orbit into subterranean fortifications.
