A Life for a Life [Coci Sinopi]

Himmelskald, Tabaqui
Heavenshield residence

A warm, soothing breeze washed over the naked skin of his upper body riddled with beads of sweat from the rigorous training exercise he'd just finished, now sat meditating upon the porch. His laboured breath had begun to settle, with a more calm pace taking its place. Some say either mind or body, but to Thurion both are equal; one cannot attempt to be at your best by ignoring a vital part of you. His thoughts were of his family; of his beloved Coci and his little Nina, both so very important to him. Now a fourth member was on his way, and everyone couldn't help but feel more than a bit giddy over it. Nina had already begun to hone her sister skills even though the child was many months away, still.

He had so much to be grateful for, yet the sense of loss had never left his essence; his failures are as much part of him as those he loves, and both are what makes him who he is and keeps him going. Knowing loss first-hand means he'll strive even harder to prevent it further.

Thinking herself invisible, Nina tip-toed behind her father and got ready to jump him. Convincing herself that he hadn't seen her, her tiny hands reached around his head to place them over his eyes that were already closed. "Is it nighttime already? How very curious..." he spoke aloud, feigning ignorance. "I guess I better go tell Nina to go to bed!" He turned around and grabbed the little girl, who grinned wide at her father plucking her off the ground and into his arms.

Never is there a place such as Himmelskald that soothes her soul. Coci feels free here, with no signs of any of the outside worlds to intrude and she takes all the time she can when coming here to be with her family. It is here in this isolated location, in their home built by Thurion, that she never feels alone.

She is late in preparing the lunch, only just coming back from the jungle with a basket full of fruits for breakfast and herbs for the salad, there is a herb here on Tabaqui, peppery in flavour that she has a craving for and so she went to gather it. She works fast in the kitchen, her knife chopping the herb to sprinkle over the larger leaves in the bowl before she drizzles the dressing, one which is Thurion favourite.

Coci places the prepared bowl in the centre of the table next to the chilled ice water, a plate of fresh cuts cold meats sit with a selection for all their tastes and fruit, a large bowl of berries and stoned fleshy fare, Coci's favourite. For Nina, her favourite, a small plate of sweet bread for when she finishes her meal.

"Thurion! Nina! .. lunch is ready!", she calls out as her summon to come and eat. She wipes her hands on a small towel and fixes her white loose shirt she wears over a white pair of shorts.

Upon hearing that Coci had finished preparing their lunch, Nina wrestled her way out of her father's grip and galloped into the dining room. Meeting Coci, she somewhat shyly put her arms around the woman she now considered her mother, nuzzling her face against her tummy where she knew her baby brother was resting. When Thurion appeared she'd already taken her seat. "Looks delicious, as always. Sure beats the take-out we'd gotten used to at our old place, doesn't it, Nina?" She merely nodded, a wide smile on her face.

Rather than take his seat right away, Thurion wanted to give thanks to the chef. He stepped towards Coci saying nothing, yet in his eyes she'd be able to see his intent. Still riddled with beads of sweat all over his naked upper body, he grabbed her by the waist and pulled her close, planting his lips upon hers. "I love you", he whispered past her ear, resting his chin upon her shoulder.

It is impossible for life to be as perfect as it is in this moment. As Nina rested against her belly, Coci's hand raised to rest on top of her head gently stroking her white blonde hair, looking down smiling. Such a precious little girl she is and much loved by Coci, she is her daughter now and equally would do anything to keep her safe and nurished for life. "Soon", she whispered to her, "Before you know it, he will be here".

But the perfection was not complete just yet, not until Thurion walked in. Her face beamed with a smile upon seeing him and more so when he came to her, taking her in his arms and with the fire of love and passion kissed her. Moments like these she is lost, simply vanishing into a singular moment and only one thing exists to her, the man she loves beyond measure. Perfection, their faimly gathered, good food and a hot sweaty bare chest man, she giggled at her own though as their lips parted and he rested against her. "You will love me more after we eat, the meats are so tasty", she whispered in his ear as she nuzzled him. She also caught Nina's eye as the little girl could not help but watch her parents in a loving embrace. Coci's hands moved from his shoulders into his damp sweaty hair and tussled it, messy him all up, a look of mischief in her black eyes as she smiled. "Now I am all wet with your sweat", she added with her own wicked grin.

Coci moved away just enough to take his hand and lead them both to the table to be seated. Nina did not wait for them, having picked out all her favourites and placing them on her plate and tucking in. Coci did the same, famished with a growing child inside her.

Her eyes watched them both, it is these moments one must treasure away in ones heart, their small amount of peace isolated here on Tabaqua comes when they all can grab hold of the time. As time marches on, so does life and the galaxy at large, always there on the periphery waiting and watching to tear it away with it's intrusion. There can never be true peace, but life here with Thurion and Nina and soon their son, is as close as it gets.

She stood abruptly to reach for the jug of blue milk, and offered some to Nina who simply nodded her head in acceptance. After Nina's glass is filled, Coci did the same for her beloved Thurion. She sat once more and took up her own glass of ice cold water.

"What do we need to do today Thurion? is there anything we can help you with?", she asked wanting to spend as much time with them both and help with the house.

As they all digged into their lunch, Thurion happily downed his glass of blue milk - his favourite drink since Asha introduced it to him the very first day they met. He still struggled with not getting milk on his now actual moustache. The meats were indeed very tasty, as Coci had informed him in her oh-so-delightful ways. She never ceased to excite him in all manner of ways, physically or otherwise. Her mere presence is what dreams are made of.

Then came the question whether or not he needed help around the house, to which he readily objected. "Oh, no, not at all! I wouldn't dream of letting you do any of the heavy lifting in you delicate state, my love", he told her, reaching across the table to entwine his fingers with hers. "There's still lots of interior decoration to be done, as you well know. I'll leave that to your very capable hands..." He offered her a smirk as his fingertips caressed her skin.

Upon resuming his delicious meal, his fork suddenly dropped onto his plate. Eyes wide open, he felt as if panicking. Beads of sweat ran down his forehead. He had trouble breathing, only managing faint, short intakes of air at a time. Before it could get way out of hand, he rose from his seat and somehow made it outside without saying a word. Stepping out onto the green grass he fell under his own weight onto his knees. Grabbing firstfuls of grass on either side of him he then cried out in agony. Only once had he felt this distraught about anything in his life:

Asha was dead. He could feel it this time as opposed to when he had been told she was dead in his youth. It was as if a large chunk of himself had been carved out of him and crushed before his eyes.

She was teasing him of course, "Oh I shall do the woman's work shall I?", she smiled. Coci knew full well Thurion would never allow her to over do it, nor did she have any intentions of such, far to precious is the life growing inside her. She shook her head and turned back to her food, taking in large mouthfuls of it with sheer relish as her body and baby demanded sustainance in larger amounts.

Coci reached for her glass of water, taking it only to stop as a heightened spike of dispair came from Thurion. The Force Bond swelled rapidly with the sense of panick and Coci looked around the kitchen to see what had intruded on them, but found nothing. "Thurion what is it?", she asked in alarm before turning to him only to find him gone.

She could sense him outside as she moved around behind Nina placing her hand on her shoulder, Nina stay here. Nina would sense it too, her father's sudden dispair and immediately wanted to go to him. Coci ran out of the kitchen onto the verandar finding Thurion on his hands and knees, she ran to him and fell to the ground her hand reaching out to rest on his back. "What is it? what has happened?", she looked over him with growing concern for her beloved, as she could sense the sudden loss breaking his heart.

"She... She's dead...!" he barely managed in between sobs. "Asha, she's... dead!" His panicked state had now transitioned into sheer grief, leaving him little more than a quivering child as it had many years prior. He threw his arms around Coci, burying his face in her shoulder as tears ran down his cheeks. "She's dead, Coci... I've lost her again...!" He could speak no more, instead allowing himself to shed further tears for the woman who had raised him. He would've never become a Jedi in the first place had it not been for her. Growing up, she had been his whole world. Now she was well and truly gone.

As Coci held him in loving embrace, the touch of tiny hands caught his attention briefly as little Nina now stood hugging her father from behind. She had little idea of why he was reacting this way, but that didn't stop her from comforting he who had in turn raised her for most of her life. He had been the one constant thing in her young life since the two bumped into each other on Umbara several years ago, and she was not about to let grief take him from her.

Words are simply not adequate to aid him and so she did not utter one single word. Coci held him to her, her hand finding the back of his head as she craddle him. For now, all that was to be done was to cry, to allow the emotion of loss and saddness it's place. She had never met Asha although in hearing of her from Thurion and through reputation it was like she had, but Coci's grief stemmed from the sorrow now filling her beloved Thurion. And she let her tears flow down her face as her heart shattered for him.

His trembling body encase by her and Nina as the precious girl came to her father and clung to him, a different sense of loss coming from her and fear for her father, but Thurion is strong and would never do anything to harm them all, and Coci knew this. She pulled NIna around to them both, placing her hand around the little girls waist and sending the calm and reassuring light side of the force to them both.

Gently she pulled them both to the ground, the soft grass soothing the skin and all three of them simply lay there embraced in a unity and support to the man they both love. She rested her forehead against his and closed her eyes and simply allowed him to grieve. The Jedi of Old had not been right when it comes to emotions, it is more dangerous to keep such things hidden or bottled up, you have to feel, you have to know .. how else does one grow. Love or hate, life or death, one cannot exist if there is no emotion. Peace will come, with time and with the help of loved ones.

The End
