While I can resist it, why is my depression all the more apparent whenever I'm on a forum? Anywhere else online and I'm fine - only on forums does it crop up... Eerie.

I guess that's the great thing about forums, there's always company in sight whether you're familiar with them or not. Chaos is a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to community, but I usually find we can relate with others after spending the time getting to know each other with an open mind.

I like to think this place can be good for people, to be expressive in their writing and in a way it can help to self-medicate our stresses from the real world side of things. I know all about depression through personal experience, so I can both relate and feel for you on that front <3

Thank you, and I hold the same views on the reasons for these sorts of sites existing, as well - writing improvement and the exploration of the meaning of life via worldbuilding and the contemplation of morality through fiction. At least, those have always been my reasons for being involved with Star Wars.
Curious: How fondly do you remember the EU?

EU had some gems amongst a sea of poo. Nostalgia makes one think it was better than it was now that it's been delegated to Legends canon. While the best parts are slowly being adapted back into the new canon, I see this as a chance to clear room to tell better, more cohesive stories. We've already got Thrawn back, the Vader comics are fantastic, and while we'll likely never see Mara Jade and others, I'm hopeful for Darth Revan.

The principle is what pisses me off the most: even if we're using content in a shared universe (with our own takes on the species, technology, etc.) we at least have passion behind our creativity. The new filmmakers don't even have that: the took the work of others through legalism and tried to pass it all off as original content after reducing it all back to its most basic levels. The original EU at least let people build up their foundations over years and, over time, truly make things into a work done for the enjoyment of creating a world... In a nutshell, you don't see that at Disney anymore - it's all now catering to far left ideology.
